Heads Up: I’ve Made a Big Decision About Facebook!

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

I have been thinking about this for quite a while… more than you can probably imagine. As most of you know, Facebook keeps changing what you see in your News Feed- which seriously limits the amount of posts you see from Freebies2Deals. I mean, with over 80,000 of you- only 500-2,000 of you actually see the post in your news feed! That is ridiculous. And, it’s really frustrating to me that Facebook keeps limiting what my own fans see. And, I’ve even seen more changes this past week… and I don’t think they are going to stop.

With that said, I will no longer be posting the “deals” on the Freebies2Deals Facebook page. I know some of you might be upset by this. But I do want you to know that I have had a very strong impression about doing this for a while and I REALLY think it will save you all a headache when it comes to your Holiday shopping. If you were to only rely on the Freebies2Deals Facebook Page, you would miss just about all of the Deals anyway because of how Facebook is doing things. And I really think they are going to keep limiting fan pages like mine in the future…. So, I am trying to make the change now to give you all a fighting chance at saving the most money on your Christmas shopping!

Should I Still “Like” You on Facebook?

YES!! I would love you to still “like” me on Facebook! I will still interact with you guys, talk about money saving tips/tricks, and do special Giveaways for Facebook Fans Only. Plus, if you didn’t know, the more “likes” you have on a Facebook page, theBIGGER theitems companies will giveyou to Give away! And, I want to be able to still have those to give out to you all!

How Can I Get the Deals if I Won’t See Them on Facebook?

The BEST Way to see all of the deals is to check www.Freebies2Deals.com. A LOT of the deals are time sensitive or sell out quickly. And, some of them will be gone by the time the Freebies2Deals Daily Email goes out. So every time you are online, I would quickly check Freebies2Deals.com to see if any of the deals are what you have been looking for. You just never know what will pop up!

On top of that, I recently launched the Freebies2Deals Toolbar. It will tell you when a new deal has been posted. So, if you are online doing other things, you can quickly know if you need to head to Freebies2Deals to grab something off your Christmas List! This version is currently valid for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome. (Hopefully Safari will be working soon.)

Other ways to get the deals??? You can download the Freebies2Deals App for either Android or iPhone. And, you can sign up for Freebies2Deals Daily Email Updates.

If you missed the post, I have also put together a Christmas Deals Category and Button. Just look for the Santa on the Right-Hand Side of Freebies2Deals. Anything that is Christmas Deal related will be there.

I’ve tried to give as many options to get the deals other than Facebook- so everyone has a way that works for them the best. Other than that, it is up to you!

I know this change might be hard for some of you! But, I think in the long run we are going to be VERY grateful we did this- especiallyas we get closer to the Holidays. As always, THANK YOU for being so great and joining me in this Money Saving Journey!! I really do love what I do and I love sharing the deals I find. So hopefully one or a few of these other ways to get the deals will work for you!

  2. Melea, I totally support you on this. I hardly ever got updates from you on fb, so I just got in the habit of checking the freebies 2 deals website to make sure I was seeing everything you post. I’ve been really disappointed by all the changes fb is making. And, I think they are trying to push people/companies to start paying for services, so they have to limit the amount of free exposure that they’ve been providing. They are a business, so it’s understandable, but it ‘s just forcing other business’s to change they way they utilizie fb. Thanks for all you do!!!!

    Sorry Melea.

  9. Melea,

I noticed your posts were not showing up all the time, also, and found some advice of how I can easily see them. I made a custom list on FB, called “Frugal Advice”, and added you and several other money saving pages to it. Now I can look at just that category and see all posts that you have made. I will still look at your website, but thought I would let you know a way around FB changes.

    • How did you make a custom list? I am dumb when it comes to facebook.

  10. Congratulations! Hopefully other businesses will get smart too. FB is over rated and constantly makes too many changes. I hardly like to use it any more and I didn’t get your deals on my FB page very often. I was checking your website.

  14. Horrible idea. Unfornately, if you do make this your final decision, you will be losing a “like” from me. There are many other sites that will continue to post on FB and I will support them instead. I think this is more a ploy to get people to use your app and toolbar. I guess to each his own. Good luck to you.

  15. Even though I use facebook for almost all of the deals on here, I understand your decision. Just a little sad about it though!

  17. Honestly, I hate this. You were my favorite frugal site to follow on FB, and I’m not going to be checking your website everyday as it’s not easy to quickly scroll through. I had it worked out so I could see all of your FB posts as I wanted. But oh well, I guess I will find some other frugal sites to follow that will continue to post on FB as I need. Best of luck with this big change!

  18. I’ve downloaded the app. I’ll see how it works. I appreciate all you do. I’ve noticed another savings website is putting the link to the deals as the 1st comment. Maybe that’s the loop hole they’ve found with facebook’s changes lately.

    Reply
    • The reason this works is that you see in your feed what you interact with. If you click on the like button, or a link or comment on a FB page post then you have “interacted” with that page and you will see the posts in your feed. This is really the easiest “fix” to the facebook “problem” that and setting up your own “feed” like Tracy (about 6 comments above). Therefore those that are not seeing the posts are not “interacting” with the FB page and so FB feels you are not interested in the page. I am one who will be disappointed by the changes. Since I see all the posts because I “interact” with the page. Therefore that means I am an active viewer and user of your FB page and now I am having my ease of access denied because those that do not can’t see what they are not actively using. Sorry bad idea from my stand point. As others have said, there are lots of “freebies to deals” sites out there you are not the only one and it will be esay to switch to another. You all pretty much post the same thing anyway.

  32. I realize this change may not work for all of you…or you may not see the benefit in going to Freebies2Deals.com directly to see deals that will help you save money on groceries or Christmas shopping. But I’ve created the Freebies2Deals App, Freebies2Deals Toolbar, Email Updates, and even a Christmas Deal Category Button to help make it easy and hopefully one of those ways will work for each and every one of you. Another benefit of this change is that I will be able to post even more deals than other Couponing/Deals sites because I won’t have to repost everything on Facebook. So I should be able to find deals that other sites don’t. And, I will be trying my best to do just that!! In the end, I hope to not lose any of you as “Fans”. But I understand everyone needs to do what works best for them, their family and their time! No matter what you end up doing, I love you all and all of your support!! It really does mean a lot!

    • You’ve gone out of your way to make deals accessible to those interested….thanks for all your hard work. I do think it’ll be much easier for you to just post them in one spot. A lot of us, like me, aren’t even on Facebook, but anyone can go on freebies2deals.com, so that can get to a wider audience. I appreciate all the money you save our family! xoxo

  34. It probably gives you more time to search for deals too, rather than having to post things twice. And with no guarantee we can see that extra post on facebook, I can understand why you would make this change. Honestly, I would rather see businesses back out of facebook rather than conform to the new changes and start paying to have posts seen. That way, maybe they’ll go back to how it was.

  46. I personally think this is a great idea. Yes, for those people who are on FB 24/7 it may be difficult to go to another website, but most of us who stay up-to-date with all your deals go to freebies2deals.com anyway. Its the only way to see EVERY single deal you find. Even on FB, you ALWAYS mention that not every single deal you find is posted, and the best way to get every single deal is to check the website. I apologize that so many people might be upset about this. Its not really that difficult to use the toolbar or check your website. And so WHAT if you want more traffic on your website?! You’re finding all of these great money-saving deals and we don’t have to pay a single penny! The least we can do is follow your website daily. Props to you Melea. Yeah, you’ll have a few grumpy people that won’t “like” you anymore, but for all the thousands of us who really ARE you fans, we’ll be here!!

  47. Tracy, will you give us a step by step on how to create a custom list? Thanks for the suggestion!

    Reply
    • I know I’m not Tracy, but I figured I’d reply to your question 🙂

On the left hand side of your home page, you’ll see in light gray, capitalized letters “FAVORITES”, “GROUPS”, “INTERESTS”, “APPS”, etc. Under “INTERESTS” you’ll see the option to “Add Interests…”. Click on that. It’ll bring you to a new page.

At the top middle right you’ll see a button that says “+Create List”. Click on that.

A new window will pop up where you’ll be prompted to select the pages and/or friends you want to be in this “Interest List”. Select all the ones you want, then scroll down and click on “Next”.

You will now be able to choose a name for your “Interest List” and also choose who will be able to see it (I set mine to “Only Me”). Click “Done”.

The window will close, the FB page will refresh, and on the left-hand side under “INTERESTS” you should be able to see your new List! 🙂

You can create however many lists you want. I have one for my favorite deaals, my favorite deals sites, and some couponing pages.

      Hope this helps!! 🙂

  71. Tough decision. A long time ago, after you suggested in in one of your posts, I made a Freebies2Deals “Interests” group that I would click on anytime I was on FB and wanted a quick F2D update. Then after that, I created an interest group called “Deal Sites” and included my favorite Deal Bloggers in it. I am on that tab probably more than I’m on my Close Friends tab and Family tab!!! And with that, I never missed a deal you posted on FB. However, I used that in conjunction with your Android app and I check your website at least 10 times a day as well.
That being said, I’m sorry to see your FB posts go. I wish everyone could figure out how to use the FB “Interest” groups to their max potential, but honestly, it will probably be easier for you not to have to go to FB to duplicate blog posts anyway. I just hope you don’t lose any “sponsorships” because of it…
Good luck!!! I’ll be checking in soon!!! =)

Codes, sentences, and paragraphs will get all squished together. I also don’t like that I need to refresh it every time I use it. I will try to get to your site but, I am afraid that it just won’t happen. If I do go there it won’t be until the end of the day and I will miss all the time sensitive deals. And the time sensitive deals are usually the best ones!! I just don’t have time to sit at my computer all day…

  84. Um, not happy with the change, but you do what you have to do. I was getting all your posts on Newsfeed because I was commenting and “liking here” and there which told FB that I wanted to see your posts. If you comment or like regularly, you WILL still see Freebies2Deals posts on your home page. But I guess that won’t help as you won’t post anymore. Sigh. The app won’t help as I don’t have a smart phone (don’t want to pay the data plan, trying to save $!) and refuse to download yet another toolbar, and you said yourself that many times the deals are gone by the time we get your daily email. It also takes way too much time to schroll through your website when there are pages and pages to look at every day. FB had it all at one glance. I guess I’ll depend on the other money saving FB pages to get the bargains. Thank you for all you do, and I understand, but your changes don’t work for me. Good luck for the future.

  135. It seems like most people agree with you. I’m not one that really checks your site that often. I tried really getting into couponing when I first found your site but I just couldn’t get geared up for it. It seemed like I was having to read through too much that I didn’t want. I’m sure if I could get organized with it I’d figure out a system but I couldn’t ever get to that point so I kinda gave up. I do enjoy randomly coming across FB posts and I think oh yeah I needed that or I wanted to get one of those (I’m still excited I finally got a 5 quart mixer and only paid around $150 because of you!) and I jump on it so I will miss seeing those! Hope it works out for you but I am a little sad!

  176. You also forgot to mention RSS feeds. I hardly ever get on the actual site. I as well as other people use their smartphone for a majority of online access. I subscribe to your feed and get your deals whenever your page is updated.

  255. I totally agree with you on this! I hope it helps you to simplify a little bit, too. Facebook is wayyy overrated. I keep up with the deals pretty well just through the e-mail digest you send out. I do wish you would change (if it’s a possibility) the amount of posts that show up on the first page of the blog. It would be easier to scan them this way. Currently it seems like there’s only 10 or so that show before you have to click “older post” and that makes it a little time consuming. That would be helpful!

  270. Very good idea!!! I always check Facebook for a quick pick and then I go to the web page… so… I am still here… perfect!

  272. Its not that hard to just use your main website to post the deals. I’m sure it makes it easier on you. Thanks for all the deals you post!

  273. Thanks for the heads up. Your webpage is the first thing I check in the morning. The new toolbar you’ve added is a great addition for keeping up to date throughout the day on posted deals.

  274. It’s easier for me to navigate your deals on your page anyway. Sounds like a great decision to me.

  277. Facebook is one of those things that people seem to hate but can’t do without. I think it is great to pull out of that tangled web they have of constant changes and updates.

  280. No big deal Melea, I’ve stopped trying to see the deals on Facebook anyway because it has been frustrating for me. I say if it makes things better for you and doesn’t hurt us, why not.
    You’re amazing anyway!
Thanks for all you do for me.

  282. I don’t blame you for wanting to be rid of Facebook! It’s not exactly deal site friendly with the changes. And we want to see everything not just what they deem important for me to see.

  283. It actually doesn’t upset me at all that you made this decision. I prefer to look on your site anyways but I will still “Like” you on Facebook. Thanks for making it so easy for us to find great deals.

  299. I’m not a fan of this because I keep my facebook open all day, and when I would see a post from one of the bloggers I follow pop up – it would remind me to go check their facebook page and website for other deals. I have no idea if I was seeing every post on my newsfeed, but just seeing one would help remind me to check for others. But – I will support your decision and try my best to remember to come visit your site once in a while 🙂 Good luck!

  301. Your website would be more appealing to me if it showed more deals per page, quite a bit more actually. That way it’s easier to scroll through and pick the deals that interest me out of all of them since there are so many new deals posted every day. I’m not going to sit and read about every single deal, and waiting for a new page to load after every few deals is not convenient. Especially if I have something specific I am looking for, since the search does not work as well as it could. Which is a another thing that would be nice and would keep me coming here. I am not interested in the tool bar, cause I don’t wish to be notified every time a deal is posted. There are so many deals through the day that it would get annoying very fast. Also, I use multiple computers through out the day depending on where I am, so it’s not really a good option. I hardly ever check my e-mail any more unless I am expecting something, and most of your e-mails give a few deals and then say to check the site anyway. Anyway, just reasons why I will not be following you anymore, and maybe some changes to make that could make me rethink that. Good luck.

  302. I support your decision to do what you think will work best….but personally, I really like the FB posts. I have limited computer time, and way too much email to sort through as it is.
What ever you do, thanks for all your work. I really appreciate the stuff you send our way.

  303. The only reason I’m even a fan on facebook or subscribe to emails is for the giveaways. I check your blog frequently and that’s enough for me. I like that Facebook doesn’t require me to see yor posts if I don’t want to because it clutters my feed with deals that i’ve already seen on the blog. It’s a little annoying to me to have to go to Facebook and make artificial comments just to enter a giveaway, but I understand that it helps you with publicity, so this is the first time I’ve ever complained, and even now only because you brought it up and seem to sincerely want our honest feedback.

  307. facebook sucks. I noticed a long time ago that I wasn’t seeing the posts of everyone I wanted to and it’s super frustrating. I really wish there were a way to allow us to actually choose what we see instead of deciding for us just so companies will pay. That’s stupid. Your decision is a good one.
