Clearance Shopping Tip #13:

For all of the newer Clearance Shoppers, there is typically a schedule that most stores follow when it comes to clearance.  15% off for about a week, 30% off for a few days, 50% off for a few days, 70% off for a few days and if you are lucky 90% off for 2 days or so.

If your store doesn’t start with 15% off, you can bet that they will move through the clearance schedule even faster. Stores will also move through a clearance schedule faster if there is another Holiday they need to set up for.

**When in doubt, ask an employee to know when the next markdown will happen and if you should wait or buy it then.

  1. I usually buy things when they are 50% or 75% off. I save my tons. Maybe, someday I will be lucky enough to buy at90% off.

  2. Gage how important a clearance item is to you. If it is something you are buying just to have on hand you can probably wait to see if you can get it when it goes to 70% (not a lot of stuff makes it to 90%). If it is something you really want or need it may be worth it to buy at 15 or 30% off.

  3. I shopped the Target clearance at 70% off plus a cartwheel coupon for 20% off, making my jacket just $4.00. Thanks for the heads up on the additional cartwheel.

  5. When I go to any store I shop the clearance aisles first before I go to the regular priced clothing. One of my favorite tips is to look at the tags. I went to Old Navy to buy a white onsie for my baby. They were $7.94. In the pile of all the onsies I saw that one had a different looking price tag for the same shirt. So I had them check it. It was on clearance for $3.99, They just must’ve missed marking it.

  6. Talk with the workers! Last week I learned every Tuesday morning at target is when they mark down women’s clothing! The best when you have 1st dips at clearance clothes!

  7. My tip is to always watch the prices when you check out. I was at the ShopKo clearance sale today and two of the four items I purchased rang up for more than was on the clearance label. So, I saved $6 by watching that and only paid $17 instead of $23. This is my tip for everything…not just clearance stuff: pay attention at checkout!

  9. I love shopping clearance at Target. If you look closely at their clearance tags, it shows the percentage off the item…40, 70 or 90. It is in the right hand corner in really small type.
