Clearance Shopping Tip #9:

Please, PLEASE don’t forget to scan any clearance items when you are shopping.  Target AND Walmart both have scanners throughout the store that you can quickly double check a price with.

  • You may not want an item because the clearance price is still much higher than what you want…. make sure you scan it.  It could have dropped in price and the sticker may not be updated.
  • An item may have a clearance sticker on it but once it is scanned, it is actually full price and was marked incorrectly.  If you don’t scan it beforehand, you might miss the error when your items are being scanned during checkout.

  1. If the clearance item price on the stinker ends in $0.06 or $0.08 then the item will be marked down again. If it ends in $0.04 then it’s final price. Also if you find a sale item you want and target is all out they will give you a rain check. So no matter the price later you can get it for the sale price. Accidentally posted on the wrong post earlier.

  2. Even if the item is on clearance, you can still use coupons to get the price down even lower! I get free stuff this way all the time! After the holidays there was a coupons.com coupon on bodywash gift sets and Target had them on clearance and they were so cheap!

  3. I will often use Target Cartwheel on my mobile phone and use those virtual coupons to get the thing I’ve been wanting down, even lower than normal. My total lowers to less than 5 to 10 dollars and I get a great deal on many many things my household buys.

  6. When something I use regularly or something I’ve been wanting is on clearance and there’s only a few (or the wrong color, etc.) at the store, the next day I try ANOTHER store. I’m lucky that I have 2 Targets within 20 mins of my house.. I know this is not the case for everyone.

  7. At the end of a season or after a holiday it is worth it to scan seasonal/holiday items to see if they have been marked down but just don’t have the stickers put on them yet.

  8. Before you check out, scan all the items in your cart to see if there are any additional Cartwheel discounts. I’ve gotten some really nice surprises this way!

  9. Great tip! I scan everything when I’m shopping for clearance items! Most of the time, the price is wrong – and it’s usually cheaper than marked. And even if it’s not, I still feel better scanning it first so I know the price before checking out.
