This is probably the video people are looking forward to the most. So I really hope it helps clear up any confusion on how to use coupons at Walgreens and combine them with Register Rewards. Enjoy! (After watching the video back, I realized how much noise was all around us. Sorry! I’ll have to work on my videotaping skills. LOL)

(If you cannont see the Tune-In Tuesday Video below, head over here to watch it instead.)

**To clarify, if you have more coupons than items, you need to purchase a “filler” item.  It can be items that you don’t have coupons for. Or, you can find cheap things like a $.09 pencil to fill in the item to coupon ratio gap.

  1. I have never shopped at Walgreens before. So my question is, how do you know you are going to get a register reward to print out at the checkout?

    • Carrie, They are all in the ad.. And they are on the tags next to the products in-store.

  2. Went to Walgreens & would not print $2 RR for 2/$6 J&J products . Had 2- $1.00 off coupons and was told had to actually spend $6 for RR to print

    • Hey Deanna, That isn’t how Walgreens has ever worked in the past. Using coupons to lower the total cost you pay doesn’t make a difference to the computer whether the rr prints off. Im guessing maybe one of your products wasn’t in the system as part of the RR. So it was their fault. Sorry it was such a pain! But you can use coupons and still get the RR to print. I do everytime I shop.. I did it for this video too!

  3. Thanks for taking time to post this…I used to shop at Walgreens for deal until RR came out and then got all confused and stopped doing it. This will help me a lot now!! I was wondering if you had any tips for the new way that Rite Aid is doing there deals now too.

  4. I am new to all of this trying to save money for our family. Can you explain what the RR are? Are they coupons to go back and use or cash coupons? I am an idiot but just wanted to clarify it.

    • Basically they are cash coupons. You can use them on anything in the store!

      • Be sure to keep track of the expiration dates because they expire fairly quickly.

  5. I tried Walgreens when I first started couponing and it didn’t go very well for me. Thanks for taking the time to show us all what to do. I now know why my shopping trip was so bad. I will have to give Walgreens another try.

  7. I am relatively new, but have gotten many of the great deals that you highlighted. I got the precise heat patches for free though! I also got my lesson on a filler item there too.

I did NOT know about the coupon to item ratio, so thanks!

One thing- if they are talking over the speaker in the store, it is nearly impossible to hear you.

    Thanks for the video 🙂

  9. Can you use more than one RR for one item? For example, if you have something that costs $5, and you have a $2 and a $3 RR – can they be combined? Or does is the ratio thing applicable for that, too?

    Reply
    • The ratio applies to that too.. so just purchase something super cheap like a $.09 pencil. You can find them at Walgreens pretty easy.

  11. I’m trying to figure out how to get the Dove Men’s products for free as stated in the video. It starts at 4 for 15, then it goes to 4 for 7.50 after the b1g1, then it goes to 4 for 2.50 after the RR. Is there another coupon I can use to make it free?

  12. A good way to get around the need for “fillers” is to use a Walgreens coupons in which you have to buy several items. For instance, yesterday I had 3 register reward coupons, 1 manufacturer coupon and only 2 items. I found a Walgreens coupon in the ad for buy 8 folders for $1.00, so each folder counts as 1 item, yet only costs $.13 It’s a really great way to get around the rule.

  14. I really appreciated your end of shop/pre-checkout list. I’ve learned to really KNOW how many RR’s will be popping out! I learned this lesson a few weeks ago when the Ragu and Mayo had RR’s. It turned out that the RR never printed, and because my shop was not very large I realized there wasn’t a RR. When the store manager was called over, he realized that the actual Ragu sauce they had on their shelves (and labeled with the sale) was a few ounces smaller than printed in the ad. He said the ads are set a year in advance and because of that, the Ragu size could have become a bit smaller than when they set the ad. Because there was no other size or variety in the store, he gave me the RR, but unless I had been watching, I would have missed out that savings.
Thanks for all you do Malea! I follow you religiously!

  15. Loved the video, it really answered just about all my question to shopping at Walgreens so thank you. I was wondering if you know when Walgree’s coupon booklets come out? Every time I try to get one they are gone so I was wondering if they are a first of every month thing or what? Thanks

    • They should be there the whole month. They might be behind the register. So ask if they have any of their monthly coupon booklets.

  16. Your explanation of couponing & R.R. was terrific! It’s totally what some of our cashiers explain over & over every week, to help customers learn HOW to coupon at Walgreens. It is so fun to see their delight when they see it works, & totally “get it”!
Also, at our Walgreens, our manager allows us to tape spare manufacture coupons up by the product…customers love this!

One question: which Walgreens did you tape the video at???

  17. I just got home from Walgreen’s and it is the first time I have shopped there and I spent $11.00 after coupons and counting my register rewards. Before the coupons and register rewards I bought 14 items and they were totaling almost $60.00. So I just wanted to say thanks so much for all you do your video made me not so scared to go to Walgreen’s. Even though I had to have the manager called to get my last register reward to print your video made me confident enough to know that I should have gotten it. Thanks again! You rock

  19. I am attempting my first trip to Walgreen’s tomorrow. I don’t know if things will work out the way I want them to. Does the coupon to item ratio count the store coupons too? I am getting some palmolive dish soap and the store coupon covers three items so if all my other purchases use coupons and RR will I need fillers? It all seems so much harder than a normal store. And then I can’t use RR for the same items I got RR for?
