  1. According to Walgreens when you are earning points that require you to spend a specific dollar amount, the dollar amount is before tax and after all coupons and discounts. https://www.facebook.com/Walgreens/posts/10151144188363611

I tried to do the Halloween candy sale last week and I would’ve gotten a great deal on candy with the family and friends and coupons but when they required me to meet the dollar amount after that it turned into more candy than I know what to do with. I would either end up eating it or throwing it away. I would rather just buy the few bags I need than end up with 10-12 bags of candy.

I wanted to let you know my experience so that you can let your readers know that it might be a headache to try and get the right points when doing purchases that require you to meet a specific total dollars spent. I’ve decided I’m not going to do it anymore. I will still purchase things that are buy a certain # of items to get points but I’m done with the total dollar purchases.

    • Hey Lani, Me and the Walgreens Manager at my store called up the Balance Rewards people to ask them about the Halloween Candy Points I didn’t get. And, they told us it was a Country Wide error and that the points should add to my BR Total within a week automatically. So, I will be checking this week to see if they do. And, I have my receipt if I need to call them about it again. I’ll let you know what I find out!

    • I was at my local Walgreens today, and they had bags of candy that they will accept returns on.They had a sign up (Impromptu and hand written) on a large bin full of different kinds of candy.

  3. I had the same experience as Lani. The manager told me that the balance rewards work after all the walgreen coupons are used, but that the manufacture coupon counts toward the payment. After all the time I spent at Walgreens trying to figure out the cheapest way to get the candy, the balance rewards still did not work (it only gave me 2500 points) and the manager had to input the rest of the balance rewards manually on my account. Then, I looked on my Balance Rewards account that shows how much I paid for the candy, it showed that I paid $20.61 ($19..92+$0.69 tax), which is the amount I paid after all the coupons (counting the manufacture coupon), so I think that Lani is right, the balance rewards only works after all discounts.

    • This IS true . It says in the email that I got after signing up for the program. All Rewards are alloted AFTER ALL coupons and other discounts. So sometimes it’s really not worth the trouble. But, all that aside,I’ve had very positive experience so far with the Balance Reward program.

  18. The new Walgreens system is still a little confusing to me and seems like a hassle. I haven’t bought much since the change and it seems as if people keep having problems. I sort of wish they had just stuck with their register rewards instead!

  24. I went in to Walgreens this week and didn’t have my rewards card and they asked me for my phone number and none of the numbers I could think of were registered with my card. Pretty bummed out cause I didn’t get my rewards. Oh well. The purchase wasn’t that much. I was excited to pick up my free 8×10 you posted last week though…

  31. I really love the register rewards, and HATE the balance rewards. I wish they hadn’t changed things. It seems like I never get my rewards points like I expected them to be. At least with the RR if there was a problem you knew right then what was going on because it didn’t print. And at the Draper, Utah store I go to they always were able to help me figure it out and make sure I got the RR I was due. It seems like the employees are even confused with the new system.

  44. I love and hate Walgreens. Their policies are so confusing. Their manager today told me to use your rewards on items that don’t earn rewards . So you may need to do two purchases. Use the points on your non-reward earning items and then buy your reward earning items separately. Seems silly to me.
