  1. I called the Washington County Library Branch in St George. They have ONE pass for the whole county. You can check it out for one week at a time. Currently their are 17 holds on it; meaning in approx 17 weeks I might get a chance to use it. At least their will be 2 weeks of summer still left by then.

  2. Thanks for posting Shawn’l. I was about to call the Santa Clara library, but if they only have one pass for the entire county, I’ll pass. I will have forgotten all about it by the time that I could get it.

  3. Davis County has more passes… nearly one per library but they are still very hard to get. It’s first come, first serve when they are turned in… no holds allowed.

  4. Each county sets its own rules for the Park Pass. Here’s some tips on the Park Pass from an insider in the Davis County Library system: as Ashley said there is one pass per branch – that’s 7 passes total. However, as it’s near time to get next year’s pass, in about a month each branch will have 2 working passes since the time periods overlap a bit (provided things work out the same way they did last year). She’s also correct in saying there’s no hold list for the passes.
I can’t speak for all of the branches, as I’ve only worked at the Layton, Syracuse and Clearfield ones, but some branches are a better bet than others. At the Layton branch, your chances of getting the pass are extremely slim as the pass never stays there more than a half hour at a time. At Syracuse or Clearfield, however, the pass is often there for a few hours, and sometimes even a day or two.
Call Ahead! If you live reasonably near to a library and can be there in a few minutes, call and ask if it’s there. Even though the library workers can’t put it on hold for you, you still have a pretty good shot of rushing to the library while it’s in. It’s a $10 fine per day that it’s late, so it’s very unlikely that someone will keep the pass past the due date. The due date is always displayed, so if you pay attention to what day it’s due (or call and ask) then you are more likely to be able to catch it. I know it’s still a crapshoot, but I thought a few tips might help.
Oh, and just so you know, the pass does not negate the fine to drive on the causeway, nor does it negate all fines at This is the Place Park. Other than that, I believe the pass gets you in free to any of the other State Parks.
