As you guys start to become more efficient with using coupons, you will start finding your own deals while you are at the store. But I have had some of you ask, “How do I know when the deal is good enough?”.
It will take some time, but you will get the hang of it! It all comes down to what your price point is. A price point is the amount of money that you are willing to pay for an item. For example, one of my favorite treats to buy at the store is cookie dough. Normally it costs around $2- $2.50. From the prices I have seen through the last 6 months, I personally will not pay more than $.75 for cookie dough. That is my own price point that I feel comfortable with. So I will not buy it unless I can get it for that price or lower with a coupon.
Every single person’s price point will vary. You may think that paying $1.50 for cookie dough is an awesome price. And that’s great! We are all different. The more you shop, the more you will start to realize when a price is ok, good or amazing.
The most important thing to remember is to stay patient! Couponing is an evolving knowledge. We all have to continually adapt to store policies, price points, coupon policies, difficult stores and so on. Just keep learning and doing your best and you will be fine. If you are completely new to couponing, it will take a month or two to start feeling completely comfortable with how to use coupons. But you will get there, I promise!
Every single one of you will have eventually have problems with the store being out-of-stock of the item you wanted, having an item marked as a different price than I posted from the weekly ad, managers not accepting coupons, cashiers being difficult. It can make using coupons annoying at times. But stick with it. Take all of the difficulties you have with a grain of salt and think of all the money you have and will save in the future. Besides, the more we educate the stores about their own policies, the easier it will be for all of us using coupons in the future!

i have to say i completely agree with this Melea! I started couponing mid-november and it has been a process. What I thought was a good deal when I first started, I now realize wasn't that great. So like you said, it takes a little time to figure out your own price points, but it is really worth it. Now I feel very comfortable with it and am saving a ton of money. Not only do I save money, but also I get more stuff than i did before. THANKS!-Darci
