More and more companies are changing their privacy policies. And while they may email you and let you know, chances are you’ve deleted those emails and haven’tseen the updates. Or you really don’t want to go though and read a massive privacy policy page on a company’s website. The reason I am telling you this is because if a company’s Privacy Policy changes and they state that they can now sell your contact information, you might start getting unsolicited calls!

I’ve started to get a lot of unsolicited calls this past week even though I am already on the National Do Not Call Registry. But as I got a “Robo Call” this morning, I wondered if you guys knew what those were and how dangerous those phone calls can be.

Robo Calls are typically done by scammers. So you might have a pre-recorded message calling you and saying you qualify for a lower interest rate on your credit card, home loans, warranty protection services…. and guess what? All of these are scammers trying to steal your personal info by pretending to be something or a certain company. Sothe FTC is cracking down. These robo callers won’t follow the Do Not Call Registry rules. Soif they call you, you can file a complaint with the FTC over here so they can shut them down!

If you don’t have your phone numbers registered with the Do Not Call Registry, you can do so over here. And if you want to know more information about how it works, I would read this section over here on the FTC.

As technology progresses, it is a lot easier (and inexpensive!) for scam artists to trick you into giving out your personal info or financial info.

  3. I have put my number on multiple times and STILL get calls. Somehow people still must have a way around it…

  4. Kristi, companies get around the “do not call” list if they are partners with any of the companies you work with. So if you have a bank account with US Bank, they usually have in their privacy agreement that they won’t sell your information or release it to anyone other than their “partners”, but with better legal jargon so it’s confusing. However, the “do not call” list usually protects you from anyone that isn’t partnered up. But when people do call, just ask them to put you on their “do not call” list as well as all of the companies they partner with.

  7. I’ve been on the Do Not Call list for years and this past year have reported a lot of numbers to the registry. It has not helped. I have not done business with any of them and the companies use multiple numbers so when you try to block one, they call from another. Even at the end of filing a complaint, they state that this is not going to stop the calls, but only help them try to catch the callers which is getting more difficult to do also. I wish they would go after them and fine them hard! I’m ready to change my number just because of this.
