Did you know that having old gas cans around your home could be harmful for your family? Gas cans that have been manufactured prior to 2009 are a major source of smog-forming pollution and contribute to volatile organic compound emissions from:
- Permeating vapors leaking through the walls of containers
- Escaping fumes while fuel is being dispensed
- Spillage and over filling as fuel is being poured into equipment
- Spillage and evaporation through secondary vent holes
- Evaporation through inadequately capped spouts
To help solve the problem UCAIR and Chevron have teamed up to provide more than 4,500 new EPA approved gas cans to Utah residents free of charge! The “Gas Can Exchange” is taking place this Saturday April 11th from 9:00am-3:00pm at these select locations:
- Chevron – 2100 S. 300 W., Salt Lake City
- Davis Landfill – 1997 E. 3500 N., Layton
- Chevron – 1855 Skyline Dr., South Ogden
- Provo Towne Center Mall – 1200 Towne Center Blvd., Provo
So check your old gas cans and write a reminder on your calendar so that you don’t forget!
