Awhile ago, I talked about Amazon Pantry and gave you guys a quick idea of how it worked. But a lot of you said you were still confused and wanted to know more. And you wanted to know if it was worth your time and money to use. So here is some more information all about it!
Step #1: First of all, you will need to be an Amazon Prime Member. (If you aren’t one, you can sign up for a 30-Day Amazon Prime Trial and have access to use Amazon Prime Pantry as well.)
Step #2: Shop all of the Amazon Prime Pantry items over here. They will change and update all of the time. Once you add one Prime Pantry item to your cart, your “box” will start to fill up and will show you how much more room you have left. Prime Pantry boxes hold 45 pounds. However, you can purchase up to 45 pounds or a lot less–it doesn’t matter. But shipping the box will cost you $5.95.
I will say that having Amazon Prime (which gives you Free 2-Day shipping on just about everything) and having to pay $5.95 for your Prime Pantry Box is kind of a bummer.. BUT– I think about the amount of time I save by dragging my kids to the store and the amount of the money I save on gas. And with those two things, you might find that Prime Pantry is definitely worth it. (Especially if you aren’t a crazy couponer or regular price matcher.)
Step #3: You will also see all of the current Amazon Prime Pantry Coupons over here. If you want to save money, I would definitely bookmark this page or save it to your favorites so you can quickly see what items you can save more money on that you need for your household.
For example, this package of Pampers Diapers is $8.97. Plus, by adding it to your Prime Pantry Box will take an extra $2.00 off. Notice that it will also tell you what percentage of your 45 pound box it will fill up. **Note that the coupon is only valid once per person. So you couldn’t purchase 10 packages of diapers and have 10 $2.00 off coupons come off at checkout.
Some items you will see at a lower price than what you typically see at a grocery store. And that will vary a lot depending on where you live in the Country. So some of you who live in more expensive cities will definitely see the benefit of using Amazon Prime Pantry. Other items will be the same price or higher than what you see at the Grocery Store. My recommendation is to only purchase the items that are a better deal than what you can purchase at YOUR grocery store. That is how you can use Prime Pantry to really save!
For example, I am NOT going to purchase this Pasta because my Kroger store (Smith’s) has it on sale for $.49 on a regular basis. And actually, has it on sale right now. So that wouldn’t make any sense.
Right now, they also have a 17 oz box of Honey Nut Cheerios with a 15% off coupon attached. It makes it $.16 per ounce with the coupon. At one of my local grocery stores, their ad has 12oz Honey Nut Cheerios for 2.00. That makes it $.19 to $.17 per ounce. So the Amazon Prime Pantry is the better price. (If you had coupons from the paper or a printable coupon to use on it as well, that is when shopping at the store would be a lower price in this case. )
Another example would be the Tampax Tampons. Their box of 36 is $6.97 (typically what you would find in-store). However, they also have a $2.00 off coupon attached. And finding a printable or even a paper coupon that is $2 off is pretty rare. So in this case, purchasing from Amazon would be the overall better deal.
So are you starting to see how some items are deals, some are the same as a store and some are better?? Your best bets to save the most money are on items in the coupon section. So compare those prices to what you usually pay for them in the store. Or take out your weekly ads from the mail and compare prices.
The whole idea behind Amazon Prime Pantry is to grab Non-Perishable items without having to leave your home– and my added idea behind it is to make sure you get the same prices or better-than prices as your grocery store.
Coupons change regularly, prices change all of the time… you know how Amazon is. So take advantage of the great deals when they do pop up!
***Amazon regularly has “promotions” that will get your Amazon Prime Pantry box shipped free so you don’t have to pay that $5.95. They are usually on the main page/pictures over here.

Thanks so much for this post! When I first saw that Amazon was doing this, I thought, “Cool! But how does it work?” After I read through your explanation, I went and just browsed what’s available. I’m excited to try it out and see how it helps because the better grocery shopping is 20 minutes away for me, so to load the kids and go shopping is a pain! Thanks again!

I guess I better look at it again. I found that the prices I was looking at were not comparable to what I pay in the store. I’ll look again now. Thanks!

They change all of the time. So I think the trick is to purchase the items on sale or the items that are better than your grocery store. Good luck! 🙂

I think I’ll wait until you start holding our hand and posting the “Prime Pantry” grocery deals so we know exactly what to buy! 😉

I have been trying to determine if it’s a better deal to continue with my subscribe and save subscriptions or should I go the Prime Pantry route. Any guidance there?
