I’ve done some more research and need your opinion one more time so we can figure this out and get discounted prices and details for our Disneyland trip!
The last two years we have done a HUGE discounted trip to Disneyland. We have gone the last full week of September (Sept 22nd- 25th) because it is the perfect time to go for Halloweentime. Kids aren’t out yet for UEA, so Disneyland isn’t as busy. Plus it’s still warm! However, I’ve always wanted to do Disneyland during Christmastime. So that was what I was hoping to do this year.
Originally, I was looking at the second week of November. After talking with Get Away Today, Disney’s Christmas Celebration may not be up by then. So in order to put something together now, we would have to go with November 17th- 20th. HOWEVER….. that is the week before Black Friday!! If you remember this year, stores like Target and Walmart actually had early Black Friday sales online the Friday before Black Friday. (Which would be November 19th around 11:00pm MST) So that means if we were to do our trip during this timeframe, a lot of you would miss out on some of the best Black Friday deals. And I honestly don’t know how I could be at Disneyland with all of you when I am usually working 10- 14 hour days during Black Friday craziness.
So here is another option…. If we go Dec 8th- 11th, we can still get awesome prices because the park is in a weird off-season between Thanksgiving and Christmas. All of the Christmas Decorations will be up. Plus the park will be at a level 2 or 3 (out of 10)—which means we can basically walk on rides!! I realize December is more crazy for a lot of you. So I wanted your opinions. Another option for this is that it could be your early Christmas present to your family!
Or, we can still go that last week of September.
So this is where I need your help. If you have wanted to do the Discounted Disneyland Trip this year, can you tell me whether you would prefer the Last Week of September for Halloween or the 2nd Week of December for Christmas?? We will end up doing one of those dates. And with the payment plan from Get Away Today, you could make monthly payments on your trip until we leave if you don’t have all of the cash for your trip up front!
Please comment below which one you would prefer or if either would work!!
Thank you for your help! I want to do what the majority of you can make work and have as many of you come as possible. After we get the date the majority of you want to do, I will work on prices with Get Away Today and should have it all worked out in a week or so. 🙂 Thanks!!!
***OH! We will have deals on different hotels. There will be lots of different price ranges, so no matter your budget, you can make this trip work for your family! However, I also need to know if you want to stay at a Disneyland Resort this time, which one you would want us to get a discounted deal to?? Paradise Pier (the cheapest one), Disneyland Resort or The Grand Californian (the most expensive.) If you have a preference, please leave that in the comments below… and only if you would possibly book one of the Disneyland resorts. If not, and your family might need a cheaper hotel or stay at a suite with more room for a larger family, no need to comment on this part. 🙂
Denise
I would like to do the week in December. so excited can’t wait to get more details
Bonnie
Disneyland Resort 2nd week of December
Bonnie
Are prices better if we went Sun-Wed?
Charisse
We would rather go in September. We went that 1st week in December last time and it was very cold and rainy. My young children really struggled with the cold and our clothes were soaked.
Lori Seybert
December!
Angela
I would prefer December 🙂
Ashley Bartz
December!
Lese
December would be soooo fun!
Danielle Alonzo
I would make the December one work as a Christmas gift! This would be our first trip to Disneyland and I think it would make a great surprise gift to the kids. (I went once as a disgruntled 16 year old teenager so I don’t count that trip as very memorable in my mind.) I have no preference on hotels as we have never been. Family friendly, close to park, and free breakfast is all I really look for. I’m excited to make it work this year! 🙂
Avelina C.
I’d prefer the December trip. Since I’ve never stated in any of the hotels mentioned I’d like to pricing for all 3 hotels and what’s included with price. Thank you!!
Krista
December
Crystal Hubbard
December is always so busy. I really prefer November. Its such a fun time you still get all the christmas but less crowd.
Laici
December we would love to do a trip for our Christmas this year.
Natasha Sellner
December would be amazing! I also haven’t stayed at any of those Hotels, so pricing for all 3 would be great!
Jenny
December!
NB
We would go in December as long as the crowds are low like you said. We would love to stay onsite, so we would like the price for Paradise Pier.
Angela
December
Stacey
December! And Paradise Pier! That way I have time to save and maybe do a surprise early Christmas present!
Lindsey

December @ Paradise Pier
leslee mattinson
December! And either paradise peir or Disneyland hotel
Risae Carlson
I would prefer September. Anaheim’s average precipitation in December is 2.01. September is .24. December will be colder and a higher chance of rain.
December is a tricky time for students. The end of the term for Utah schools is in January. Teacher’s hate having students come for the last 2 weeks of the term after Christmas Break. They do a ton of work and teaching before Christmas Break. For Junior High and High School students this is a very stressful time.
Since we want to do Disneyland through this discount, most of us are looking for a cheaper option. I would love to make it possible to stay at the Disney Resort. I would want the cheapest option, however.

Megan Miller

Megan
December! I would love to see prices for Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian. Thanks!
Skp
December please
Megan Rolfson
I will go whenever. When you book the hotels are they just for reference rooms or could you get a deal on a suite. I have 4 kids and would probably need a kid suite. I really want to stay at a Disneyland hotel! Thanks for the details.
Sharon
December.
Veronica painter
We are already planning a trip for Dec 6-11. Would there be a way to get this discounted rate with the option to have a couple extra days? Is would love to be able to get in on this deal!
Rachel Melara
September for us! My father passed away this past September and to remember him (he loved Disneyland, it is what we did as a family) we wanted to take a trip to Disneyland my mom, brother, and my whole family. I told my mom that you always do these discounted trips to Disneyland in September and it would be perfect and we were really excited. I’m so dissapointed you are thinking about changing it to December now :(.
Grand Californian is really a nice hotel but my budget is tiny so probably Paradise Pier if we do a Disney Hotel.
Deanna
December
Shyann
December!
Wendy t
September! Holidays are nuts for us. We’d prob stay at paradise pier
chelsea
September!! December is way too crazy!
Shannon Sparks
December would be our Christmas gift! I would love to see prices for Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian also. Dream of mine to stay on-site. Thanks!
Danette
i say September I want to go when it’s warm! Last time we went it rained cats and dogs and with tiny little ones it was no fun!
Cheloni Jeppson
September! December won’t work for my family and I really want to be a part of this.
Danielle
December for me.
Amber W.
December is super fun. But we went during that week last year, and it’s definitely not a “walk on ride” time of year. Better than days during Christmas break, but still quite busy.
Bethany
My vote is for September. We went last November for Christmas time and they are starting to do a lot of events for annual pass holders for Christmas time for the 3 weeks before Christmas week and these events cause for early closures and bigger crowds in the evenings. They did their test run the week we went to the park and it was a pain! The best time to go for Christmas time is in November.
So september and paradise pier!
Kathy
I am good with either. We would love to see the deals on any of the resorts.
Tracy
Melea,
I would like to go to Disneyland everyday of the year so you just pick and I will come. I would live there if I could. Tracy
Mandi
December! I would love to see prices for Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian. Thanks!
Danya
I have been that first week of December twice and honestly it wasn’t crowded at all…as long as you avoid the weekend. It started getting crowded about 3 or 4 pm on Friday and then it was a nightmare. So don’t be worried about December unless you plan to be there on the weekend.
Kendra
September and paradise pier
Lois
December…. but what would the pricing be??
Jordan
I love going in september because there aren’t crowds but I’ve always wanted to go while it is christmas there. So if December is slow during that time i would love to go!
Tiffany
September!!!
denise Panhorst
December
Tracy
Melea!!! They have the candlelight bible reading thing on Main Street in December. When I was there it was Molly Ringwald as the celebrity guest reader. Can you get us tickets??
That would be pretty hard as they go to AP holders mostly.
Callie
Yes! I have always wanted to attend this at Disneyland! Please Mealea see if Getaway today can pull strings for us.
Jen
Lol I think everyone is dying to attend this. Melea wouldn’t have to pull strings she have to move a mountain but still fun to dream
Melinda
I agree with Jen. The Christmas thing I have heard is super cool but it’s a lot harder to get tickets for then Halloween. Melea would have to give up her first born and I sorta get the impression she likes her first born! 🙂
Jen
Yeah I think you have to have an annual pass so pretty much only locals get tickets. I have heard Walt Disney himself started this tradition. Some people are offended because it’s super religious talking about Jesus and the choirs but I think it’s neat they continue the tradition. I think there is a standing section but that wouldn’t be fun with tired kids.
Tara Brooks
September would be awesome.
Jenn
September and Disneyland hotel
Christine Koser
December would be nice.
Melisa Davis
December 🙂
Whitney Hendershot
We love both times but I think that we would prefer December as our Christmas gift. If I had to choose between which Disney hotel I would stay at based on what I could probably afford, it would be either Paradise Pier or the Disneyland Hotel. We love the Grand but I think it would be out of our budget because we are going in May this year as well.
Angela
Christmas time! December or Nov, and Disney Hotel
Kira
September!
Cori Harding
December! We’d love to stay at the cheapest Disneyland resort. I have a family of 6 though so maybe that wouldn’t work for us? A great deal on a room for a big family would be amazing. Thanks so much for doing this!!! amazing early Christmas present!!
Julianne Bowman
We would prefer September and Paradise Pier. The weather will still be nice. Schools are in session. And it doesn’t conflict with holidays.
Courtney
December, and I would LOVE a price on the Grand Californian, cuz we would only be able to afford that with a good deal!
Rae Garn
We have always gone around Christmas and have loved it. I think it would be fun to try a September trip. We have 7 people in our family so would you please price out options for larger families? Thank you!
Heather
September please! We are in the process of planning our trip and I’ve been waiting for you to set it up again because I got so excited last year when you all went. We are seriously considering the gran Californian if you can get deals for there that’d be amazing! I’m afraid the votes are swaying toward December, so if that ends up being the dates is there a way you can do 2 trips! Ok I know that’s not possible but maybe a way to get discounts for both time frames? Work some charm with get away today
Brooke
December!
Amberly
December !!! Sept would be hard for my family to get away.
Elizabeth
September, we couldn’t go last year but are planning to go this year.
Valorie Hoffman
September!! While I would love to be able to give my family a Disneyland trip for Christmas this year, I work at BYU and UVU and that is the last week of classes and beginning of finals for students, and that’s also usually the week of all the major Christmas concerts I perform in every year. It’s just too crazy in the beginning of December, and we can’t travel twice in the same month (we’ll be seeing family in California for Christmas). The weather is usually pretty bad in December as well. Just some thoughts to consider with it being the craziest time for students and concerts and various events that are already going on in that time in December. I hope to be able to go in September with you all, this will be the first time my family has ever had a family vacation together, and we’ve been saving up for this very trip! 🙂
Katy
September
Shanon Scott
December! And Hotel prices for all would be great!
Jamie
December for sure, I have heard Disneyland at Christmas time is magical
Melissa
As someone who goes to Disneyland all the time, do not count on walking on rides in December unless it is raining! We have been during the first and second weeks of December because we were told it was dead and that was not the case. You can count on 15-minute waits on small rides and 30+ minute waits on bigger rides. We did go this year the second week in December and it was pouring rain so we literally walked on to every ride that day. The next day was Saturday which is always busier but we could barely walk it was so crowded! We absolutely LOVE Disneyland at Christmastime and think the crowds are worth dealing with to see Disneyland decorated for Christmas.
Jenn
December
Jenn
Sorry forgot hotel preference – Grand Californian
Patty
DECEMBER and paradise pier
Heidi
I’ve been December 4th-6th and it was dead. We rode Space mountain 7 times in a row with out waiting. It was a little chilly but we just wore jean pants and t-shirt with a jacket of sweater when it got chilly. I’d take 50-60 degree weather in California over 10-20 degree weather in Utah any day. 😉 I’ve also been the last week of September and it was really HOT. We went on 2010 and one of the days it got up to 113, it had broken 100+ year records. It was really uncomfortable on those hot days. September is the hottest month for Southern California.
Denise Staggs
December would be perfect~
Megan
We would love to go but are heading there towards the middle of October so we can go to the Utah Football game in the same vacation! Have so much fun and maybe next year we can come with freebies2deals!!
Emilee
December! I love Christmas time!
Kristine
September
Brooke
We would go if it is the last week of September!!
Natalie
The November time frame works best for us!
Liz
I think I’d prefer September as well. It’s warmer and was really hoping you’d do Halloween again.. I missed out last year.
Christine
September is the best time for us.
Emily
November or December will be work for us. If we could get a great price for the Disneyland Resort, we’d love to stay there!
Sharon
I would prefer the December time. And as far as Hotels I would love to see a discount for the Paradise Pier or the Fairfield that’s where we have been looking at staying. Again Thank you for all you do!!
Emily
December would be awesome!
Andrea
September.
Teasha gertsch
December and rates for all three hotels would be great;)
Melanie W
December
Meredin
I was just looking at pricing for a trip to Disneyland. I would actually prefer November.
Tasha
I loved going in September, fun break after summer was over before all the festivities started and we missed the chance to buy Halloween party tickets before they sold out. We also LOVED staying at the Disneyland hotel/resort and we wouldn’t like it any other way!
Tricia Sloan
We would love September! December is way too busy for us! Plus it is much warmer in September!
Amy Harris
December! Paradise Pier or whatever is cheaper.
Deanna
September would be the better option for us!
Kaye
I would still prefer November. Would you still be able to work something out with Get Away Today, even if you personally would not be attending?
Bridgette
We went the first week of November a couple years ago and all the Christmas decor was up.
Jill Branch
September would be our preference
Melanie
We would choose December to go! As far as resorts, I have never been so it doesn’t make a difference to me! This would be awesome.
cathy foster
I would prefer November =) Then September for the weather. But Christmas at Disney would be fun. I have kids that would be scared of the villains.
Hotel doesn’t matter cheaper is better with a family of 7
Jill
September would be great!
Breann Farlow
December

September would be great.
Wendy
I would love December even though it is a crazy time but I would love to go at either time really.
Bryton morse
september–December is just too busy and honestly it makes me nervous to drive down with the possibility of snow. They’ve closed the state boarder before and we were stuck on the interstate for 14 hours. I won’t drive down south after November. Too risky!
Hotel–the cheapest option and more bang for our buck
brandy
DECEMBER!!!

December would be awesome!
Lindsey Wright
September! My 3 kids all have their birthdays in September so we were hoping for the discounted trip that time of year so we could do that as their bday gift! 🙂
Katie Romrell

September!
Angie
September!
Lindsay
It looks like everyone is saying December, but we’re 100% for September. We’ve been pushing off going for Halloween for me to finish up school. We would absolutely sign on tomorrow if you got the deal for September.
Krista
September and cheapest is best but I gave four kiddos so we need a room for six. Thanks!!
Jill
September is best for me. Just went in December and was surprised still at how busy it was. hour waits for rides. Also would love Disneyland Hotel. The pools look super fun.
Carrie
September please!
Jo
September. You should have get away set up a deal for both times. Pretty sure all these people saying December won’t actually sign up. So all of us that can’t do it during the holiday peak shopping time because we work retail. Won’t be able to go. September . Or both. My bet would be the September one would fill up.
Troy Marsing
December
Amanda Belliveau
December at Paradise Pier would be our best option 🙂

Jen
September! December is crazy busy!

September – Disneyland resort and must have the goofy dinner. We have done this the last couple years with you and love the tradition. Why change something that still works great!!
Katelyn G
December! I would like Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian too. I would love to go with the Christmas decorations 🙂
Jessica
December please
Jessica George
You CANNOT beat Disneyland in December! I will never go another time of year again!

September is my first choice. Paradise pier for my budget
Alisa
September & Paradise Pier!!
Katie Workman
September 🙂 We were hoping to join you for trick or treating this year as we missed the last deal! A Disney hotel would be neat…but either way 😉
Mrs Holt
I think I would prefer September. Even though it would be awesome to give my husband & his daughter their first Disneyland trip for Christmas, December is when I spend the most time with my extended family. It would be hard decision to make.
Marnie Davidson
December!
Nicole
December please. Disneyland Hotel or Grand
roxannne James
DECEMBER
Kirsta Black
I would prefer September. I’ve already done Disneyland at Christmas time and I would really really like go around Halloween time! If I could make a Disneyland Resort work in my budget, I would love that, but I would also like to see other options and their prices.
Cami
September gets my pick for sure. Warm, nice weather, no crowds, it’s perfect.
elizabeth olsen
December
haley liston
December would be best!
Sarah Reeder
December is my vote if we can get some SLAMMING deals that you are so good at getting for us
Vanessa
We would definitely prefer September. December is too busy. September would likely have better weather and I think it would be less busy. Our friends went the first week of December this past year and they said it rained most the time but the park was hardly busy at all on the rainy days. It was quite busy on the days it wasn’t raining. If the price is right we are interested either way
Vanessa
Yes, we would love to stay at a Disneyland hotel. We would prefer Paradise pier or the Disneyland hotel.
Katresa
December works for our family. I definitely want to stay at one of the Disney Hotels preferably the Grand California. Just depends on the prices. Thanks!
Kathie
December
Stacie
September! Holidays are nuts and missing the Black Friday deals would be something I wouldn’t want to do. Plus you get the extra fun in September because you can dress up and going to the mickey’s not so scary Halloween party! Is there a way you can get deals on tickets to that by chance?
I would LOVE to stay at the Disneyland hotel because it has the classic Disney feel that we really enjoy but would need a good discount to make it work.
Thanks for everything you do to find these great deals!
Abby
September
Vanessa
September it is!!! Too crazy in Dec with Christmas shopping.
Stephanit
December and cheaper hotels are best. I have four kids so we need a room for six. Thanks!!

Callie
December and disneyland hotel
Linda
I would be interested if the December date is chosen.
Nykele
September please, my whole family has birthdays in August/ September this would make for a super fun birthday celebration, plus I’m dying to go for Halloween.
Christina w.
November or December. We did Paradise Pier but bigger family rooms at Grand Calif. Concierge option a rip off.
sheri
September works better
Jenny
September please! My kids want to go to the Halloween party so bad!
Jacinda
September, but would try to make December work if that is the time chosen.
Tracy
December at any Disney hotel.
I figure you are basically going to have to make this an annual thing so why not rotate and do Christmas/Halloween/Christmas etc, etc, etc and mix it up?
Here is my big pitch. If you pick December this year and in the back of your mind put Halloween 2016, that’s within 12 months. We can all buy park hoppers and I THINK Disneyland still allows upgrade to an annual pass during your stay. So come December if you feel like you are still on board for another rodeo, anyone who wants to could upgrade at least one pass in their party (say Mom’s pass) and get nice discounts on food, souvenirs, free parking and save money both years. Melea, I know you are dying to have an annual pass to Disneyland. 🙂 Tell your hubby it’s for work and it’s a business expense….So that’s why I vote for December.
Uh..he doesn’t read the blog does he? 🙂 🙂 🙂 And if you have never done Christmas Disney, you really should, it’s magical. Thanks for all you do!
Kim
I vote for December. We went 7 years ago for Christmas and it was so magical!
Barb
We went to Disneyland this year at that exact same time Dec 11th or 12th and it was crazy busy, so crowded!
Brooke Tokanang
September. (We hit the Halloween fun right?) I think December is too busy and stressful.
Diane G
December would be great and any of the Disneyland Hotels.
Jaylene
September please. And either Disneyland resort is fine.
vanda
September…….Christmas time is too busy…..Disney hotel!!!!
Adele
September!!! I’ve never been and I hear that Halloween is the best time to go.
Kellie
My vote is September. December would be too busy and hard to take the time off. September is perfect with no lines but still being able to celebrate the Halloween season.
Stephanie
My vote is for whichever is cheaper and less busy. I’m sure I can convince my family to do either. As for the hotel, I’d love to stay at a Disneyland hotel but it really depends on the price we are able to get.
Madelyn
I have done Disneyland over twenty times for myself and hundreds for others as a travel agent. Here is my advice. The week after Thanksgiving is THE lowest attendance to the park week. The cool thing is that all of Christmas is up and all the parades and fireworks are going and they even have the extended hours. This is by far the best week I’ve ever gone to the park. Also the prices of hotels are lower this week than the others in December! That being said, I want to go in December over September.
Susan
My vote is for September. December is just way too busy of a month!
Beth
We would love to come in december! We would also love to stay at a disneyland resort. 🙂
Andrea
December!!!! So much fun! I am so excited! Paradise Pier.
Angela Pierce
I still prefer November. How about the week after Thanksgiving? Have you look into that?
Aimee rowley
December for sure we just went this December and it was amazing!!
Katie Clark
September! December is just way too busy 🙂
Mandy
Either…
Cheapest option for big extended family. None of us have ever been. Does anyone have a ballpark idea of how much it costs to go?
Hillary
september and anywhere that sleeps 8 cheap!
Rachel
December seems like more luggage with coats and weather clothes, umbrellas, ponchos etc… we have 5 kids and would love to go when the lines are shorter, and accommodations for that many people…we stayed at candy cane inn a few years back and it was great, breakfast included. But would definitely be interested in disney resorts.
Rachel
One more thought. Maintenance on rides. Is there any way of knowing what rides will be closed during those times? I know they do maintenance the slow weeks, and that might influence if all the big rides are closed one week over another.
wendi
december pier
Melissa
I took my daughters the 2nd week of December last year and we did NOT walk on rides. It wasn’t a terrible wait but there was a wait. Be aware that the park closes earlier and if you are there during the Candle Light Vigil you might as well just have stay in your hotel room. It’s crowed they close Main Street and if your thinking you can get tickets to the vigil good luck. They are for certain pass holders or those with lots of extra money. We loved being at the park during Christmas it is amazing but don’t expect it to crowd free and if you can avoid the vigil try to. One more tip, if you go, try to get a limited Christmas time only candy cane. We were lucky enough to get one and they are amazing.
Jeanne Bancroft
Shoot!!! We are close to planning a trip for the first week of December (around Dec 1 – 5)… so close!! We did Disney World that same week 2 years ago, and it was terrific! Good luck with whatever you decide!
Bri
December for us & I would like pricing for all 3 Disney hotels. I would loooove to stay in the Grand but if that won’t work for us the others will work too.
fele
December, would love pricing on paradise pier
tashina
September!! December is way to crazy of a month with all the holiday festivities going on!! Plus my sins 5th bday is the beginning of Oct and we want to take him to Disney for his bday September would be perfect!

Matt
September- that’s the vote for 5 families.
Emily
September!! Although it would me magical at Christmas I have a friend that lives near there with season passes. She said December is way too busy, even when it’s “not as busy.” Lets just avoid it altogether.
Cher
December!
Disneyland hotel
Nicole
September and we would need the cheaper hotel options for a family of 5. Thanks Melea!
Crystal
September is what is best for us, plus warm is always better than cold lol, and we would love to stay in a Disneyland hotel. Thanks for all your hard work!
Heather
I vote September! Not busy, not cold, school is easier to miss with kids, Flights are cheap in september right now, don’t have to miss christmas parties need more reasons I’ve got em! We are already planing our trip for the same week in september that you are mentioning, picked that week because of how amazing you’ve said it has been in the past. Please pick september! I will sign up 100% for sure if you do september. If our budget allows we’d love the grand californian. Thanks for keeping us posted!
Jackie

September and Paradise Pier.
chandra miller
September
Shantel
My vote is for December. I would love to see Disneyland during the Christmas season. My mother-in-law is a Disney fanatic and she says those dates in December are great, says it’s business at Thanksgiving and then starting the 3rd week in December when people start pulling their kids out of school.
Heather Hooper
September! Less busy than all of the Black Friday deals and Christmas deals.
Matt
September
Sandra
I’ve never been in a financial position as a single mom to take my kids anywhere… Let alone Disneyland. This would be a dream! Because I would want it to be a wonderful experience and not have funky weather to deal with, I would prefer September. To top it off I’d really love to stay at resort lodging and had heard good things annoy Paradise Pier.
Sandra
*about
Kathy
September- Disney resort and deal with goofy dinner. Or dinner with princesses. September is my family vote.
Julie
September would be better. That far in December it is rainy and cold. Also, it is finals times for my junior high school and high school kids.
Samantha
september
Michelle Carter
September. Disneyland Resort.
Angie
How does this work? we book with you so the price is discounted? If so I’d like December. But whatever deal you get will work for us.
Amanda
September for sure
Stephania
Honestly, either or would be great! I have always wanted to do Christmas in Disneyland! But my little’s one birthday is at the end of September, so either way it would work! I would also prefer either Disneyland Resort or The Grand Californian. 🙂
Ashlee Winkelman
I have been waiting and hoping for you to do a fall trip. Please do September!
Fran
Septemeber and Disney resort or paradise. We have done Disney the last two years of your trip you’ve put together for us and we will do Disney repay again or try paradise if you recommend.
