Thanksgiving is almost upon us. I decided that we needed to break down the prices of the “Staple” items most of us use on Thanksgiving Day. I started to put a comparison list of the prices for Walmart, Target and Smith’s (my local Kroger store)…. then after seeing it.. it was clear that Target was the winner!!  (Of course, if you want to use the Target ad and Price Match at Walmart, you could totally do that too.)

If you just need a Turkey, Smith’s has theirs advertised for $.69 a lb and you should be able to find similar prices at other smaller chain grocery stores. So be watching. 🙂  If you need to purchase everything for your meal, Target is still your cheapest option– even with an $.89 per lb Turkey.

Purchase Entire Thanksgiving Meal for 6-8 People for $24.32 at Target!

12 Pound Grade A Turkey $.89 a lb
2 Jars of Heinz Gravy $1.25 Each
3 Cans Del Monte Green Beans $.59 each
1 Can Cranberry Sauce $1.39
2 Boxes of Stove Top Stuffing $1.25 Each
5 lb Bag of Potatoes $1.99
12 Market Pantry Rolls $1.99
2 Cans Cream of Mushroom Soup $.75 Each
(**Keep in mind, this is WITHOUT coupons you can drop the price even more with printable coupons on some of these products- OR by checking prices of the store brand of the same exact item.  You cannot use manufacturer coupons on the store brand.  So just go with what is cheaper:  Name Brand with a Coupon, Name Brand or Store Brand)

Want to try your hand using coupons on these Thanksgiving Staples?? Here is a list of printable coupons and coupons from the Sunday Paper you can use to drop the prices even lower:

**And if you decide to purchase a Butterball turkey–which is more expensive– make sure you try to incorporate this coupon as well: Purchase a Butterball Whole Turkey, Fresh or Frozen and (3) participating items; Betty Crocker Potatoes, Betty Crocker Stuffing, Green Giant Canned Vegetables, Pillsbury Crescent Dinner Rolls, or Pillsbury Rolled Refrigerated Pie Crust and get $3.00 off.

There is also a $1.50 off $7 purchase of Market Pantry food items coupon over here.  (That is Target’s Store Brand.)

Hope this helps everyone with their Thanksgiving Shopping lists! Let us know if you find other rocking deals too!  Feel free to use Grocery Search Feature to search for a specific item and see who has it the cheapest. That should help you with any other Thanksgiving Meal items you need that I didn’t include in this deal setup.

  4. Does anyone know what brand of Turkey is 69 cents at Smiths? So I can price match?

  5. If you have an Albertsons or Vons by you, they both have turkey for 57 cents/lb. Also Vons has Butterball turkey for 87 cents/lb if you want that specific brand. (You have to spend $25 to get those prices.) I heard Winco had good deals on turkey too.
Michelle, my Smith’s ad says the 69 cents is for the Private Selection turkey, which I think is a Smith’s brand so they would probably match it to whatever off brand/store brand.

  7. There’s also a $3 off of $15 turkey purchase coupon on Target’s website. Combine that with the $3 Butterball coupon mentioned above and the %20 Turkey Cartwheel for big savings!

  8. Thank you so much for the deals. I went to today to get my dinner for “Friends-giving” this coming Saturday and I spent less that $20 for most of the stuff listed above and used Cartwheel coupons for the potatoes, green beans, turkey and stuffing.
