If you have been holding out to get a Target Red Debit Card, it is time!!  Black Friday deals are already popping up in-store and online.  And during Black Friday week, it is going to be insane!

What if you could get crazy prices and then get an extra 5% off??  And, what if it would ship to you free all-year-long??  You could do ALL of your Christmas shopping online, in your PJs and get the best price!

I signed up for the Target Red Debit Card earlier this year, and it is the best thing I have ever done.  It DOES NOT pull your credit.  That is why I opted for that, over the Credit Card version.

Basically you head over, sign up for the Target Red Debit Card and then link your card to your checking account.  Any time you use your Target Red Debit Card, the money will come straight out of your checking account.

So instead of using your actual debit card, you can have the Target Red Debit Card take the money out of the same account. There are no fees, no charges, nada.  It’s pretty sweet!

So if you haven’t done so, hurry over here and set up your FREE Target Red Debit Card.  It will take a few days to process and you will want to have your card as soon as you can for all of the Black Friday Deals!

  1. Wasn’t it the debit card that had the security breach last year though? That’s what makes me nervous to sign up.

  2. No, it was the credit cards.

  3. I LOVE this card. NO it was not specifically the debit card that had the breech. It was ANY Card used at target. We actually caught several small transactions on our bank account the night before they came out with the information that target had been compromised. Luckily we got it fixed quickly!! (But it was not due to the target red card) It just makes sense to have this card if you shop at target at all. Why not save an extra 5%?? Sure it’s not a ton but it adds up! And the best part is the FREE SHIPPING on targets website. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! And I think target has an actual credit card version of this card. If you are worried about security breaches, sign up for that instead. Credit cards are much easier to get your money back when there are fraudulent charges, debit cards are much harder.

  4. I’ve had my Redcard for 2 years and I’ve saved over $200.00 each year that I’ve had it. I use it every week, and when the cards were compromised, I was not affected. The debit Redcard acts like an ACH payment, or an electronic check. The people who had their cards compromised here the ones that used their personal debit/credit cards at the stores. That gave the hackers direct access to their accounts. I feel very safe using my Redcard there, the same security that I would have if I wrote a check, and since I’m a member of a credit union, the funds are protected by the NCUA, so in the event that there were fraudulent charges, I would be able to recover my losses. I hope that helps.

  5. I signed up for the Target Debit Card earlier this year and have already saved over $150.00 in just a few months. My only regret is that I didn’t sign up sooner. Sooo worth the extra savings . Also, a perk to have free shipping any time and you get an extra 30 days on returns with purchases made with the card. I decided on the debit card so I wouldn’t have my credit pulled. It usually takes 2 business days to see things post on your bank account.

  6. I never pay for things with a debit card because of the protection credit cards offer against fraud. Is the target debit different than a regular debit card? Does it offer fraud protection?

  8. I got a Target debit card last year at this time and I love it! The strange thing is I live in Cache Valley where we don’t even have a Target. But because of this card I can get free shipping whenever I need it and it makes it not QUITE as painful to live 45 minutes from a store. 🙂 Highly recommend it!

  9. I an also concerned about personal information. I am thinking of doing a seperate checking account for the Red Card and just transferring money into it as needed.

  10. Security would be a big concern for me with the debit card option. Because this a privately issued card, they do not have to follow the same regulations as a bank issued card. Therefore you are not as protected and if the account were hacked, they would have direct access to your checking account. I would much rather have the credit card.

  11. You can also link your child’s school to your RedCard and 1% of all your purchases goes back to that school! How cool is that! If your school hasn’t signed up to be a part of this service, it is easy and quick!

  12. Before reading this, I wouldn’t consider the debit card because of security reasons. I don’t want my checking account open to hackers. I’m already worried about the usage of Paypal, which is also linked to my checking account. But several people here seem to be very happy with this card. I actually might consider it.

  13. Just wanted to give my opinion. 🙂 I feel that this is just as secure as using your debit card issued by your bank. I have been a redcard holder since 2010, and didn’t have any information stolen last year when they had the breach, and I love all of the benifits, including the hundreds of dollars I have saved! I have had my actual debit card info stolen twice from online shopping, so I don’t feel that the redcard is any less secure. Also, you can look up the chip-and-PIN-enabled REDcards, which it sounds like they will start sending out at the beginning of next year. These are supposed to help with security. 🙂

  14. I love my Red Card. I have also saved a bunch over the past year. Here’s an added bonus. You can use your Red Card and get 5% off gift cards. I believe the only exception is Visa gift cards and Target gift cards. I buy Disney $50 gift cards for $47.50. With Disney that’s a huge savings. I have read on Disney boards that people have booked Disney cruises and purchase the gift cards at Target to pay off the balance. They can purchase whenever it’s convenient for them. I even read that someone went in and bought 100 gift cards to pay for their cruise. Don’t get behind them in the checkout line! I wish they had larger value cards. I recently booked a cruise and talked with my travel agent about doing that. The only disadvantage is if you have to cancel, you have to keep the gift cards, so they can credit them back.
