I think most of you know that we are in between homes right now and have been living in temporary situations.  It isn’t the funnest or the easiest… but we have been figuring it out and getting by.  ;)

With that said, we cancelled our DirecTV service and have been using Hulu PLUS for the past while and I’ve actually loved it and thought it was definitely worth $8 a month!

You can sign up for a FREE two-week trial.  During that timeframe, you can see how many of your shows are on Hulu Plus and get a feel for how it works.  Basically, if you wanted to watch Grey’s Anatomy, you wouldn’t be able to watch it until Friday. (instead of when it airs on Thursday)  But if you DVR shows anyway and watch them later, it isn’t any different.

You can add your favorite shows to your Queue and Hulu will let you know when you have shows available to watch.  I was actually really surprised how many shows I watched were available on Hulu Plus!  So if you haven’t done a Free trial, you might want to give it a shot!

After that FREE tw0 weeks, if you choose to keep going, you only pay $8 a month!

Here are just some shows that I currently am watching on Hulu Plus… and I guess it will give you some insight into the ridiculous shows that I watch, and love:

  • Grey’s Anatomy
  • Shark Tank
  • Vampire Diaries
  • Star Crossed
  • The 100
  • American Idol
  • The Voice
  • The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon
  • 24: Live Another Day
  • Modern Family
  • Revenge
  • Once Upon a Time
  • And a ton more

See why it’s awesome to only pay $8 for your favorite shows??  This and our Netflix Subscription have kept us completely entertained–and at a fraction of the cost of cable!

So if you want to give it a shot too, you can sign up for a FREE 2-Week Trial here.  Let me know what you think!

You can watch shows on your computer, or through compatible devices like your Apple TV, iPad, Roku, Google Chromecast, Internet Connected TVs and Blu-Ray Players and even gaming consoles like Xbox, PS3 and Nintendo Wii.  Basically if you can connect to the Internet, Hulu Plus will work on it!

  1. Are the shows from the current season or last season?

    Reply
    • It is mostly the current season, but sometimes they will have past seasons as well! Like for example right now there are like 6-8 seasons of The Biggest Loser on there. So it just depends!

    • Current seasons, the day after they come out.

  2. I have been wanting to switch over to this but the problem my husband argues is what do you do about sports? Is there a way to watch the sporting events?

    Reply
    • I’m with you on sports. I would love to switch but he can’t give up his sports, and he loves Discovery Channel. Last time I looked Hulu did not have quite a few shows from Discovery.

Melea – Any tips from you on how to still get Sports without cable or satellite??

  3. How do you get cheap internet?

    • That is my problem too. There are no cheap internet options in our area. We would love to give comcast up all together but, it is our internet carrier.

  4. hi guys – we did this almost a year and ago and it’s been a savings of over $100 a month! CenturyLink will do ‘stand alone’ internet for $29.95 a month plus taxes and that price is locked in for a year. After that time it goes up to $52 or $62 depending on your speed. You will need 12M minimum, 20M optimum to stream your tv services and surf the net. After the year, you could add a home phone line (super safe if you have kids in the home to have one) and do a 3 year price lock on your internet and be $69 a month total so for just a few dollars more you get a home phone or you could just pay the $52 or $62 and it’s still cheaper than cable. I then subscribe to netflix for $9 and Hulu for $8 a month. My husband bought a digital antenna receiver for local channels for $75 and wired it to all of the tv’s in the house. We can then get 2,4,5,7,11,13,14, and 30 on our locals. This seems to have appeased his appetite for sports. It’s no ESPN with round the clock sport coverage but he can watch most major sporting events and Sunday/Monday football in the winter on those locals. We have purchased $39 Roku’s for our bedroom and for my teenagers bedroom (all have great parental controls) so we can watch netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant Video. We also subscribe to Prime for $79/year and so you get their TV content as well. We use the Xbox to stream the TV in our main family room. So for $150 up front investment and roughly $60-$70 a month we are all pretty happy. We were $180 a month for internet, home page and DIRECTV and it got so old paying that bill.

    • thank you Leeanne! I think you are going to give it a try! Our directv contract expires in July and already got the price locked with century link. Could you please let me know what type of antenna you got?

  5. p.s. the digital local channels picture on the antenna is amazing! We tried AERIO to stream our locals and their quality was awful. They are no longer operating in most markets anymore though. The antenna really surprised me with the high quality picture!

    • Hi Leeanne, would you let me know what type of antenna you got and where did you buy it? I’m on the market for one of those but I’m not sure which one will work best, I will appreciate your help!!

  6. We just cut our cable about a month ago and honestly have hardly missed it. We bought a Roku, so my kids and I have our shows, thanks to Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime, and PBS kids. Plus, I can listen to my music a lot more conveniently thanks to Pandora. My husband added the ESPN channel for him since he pays for the NBA League Pass, so he gets some of the games he wants too! Plus, when we called to cancel the cable(AT&T) they upped the data and minutes on my phone plan and cut the cost! Win win!!

  7. I have been really interested in Hula and making the change. My question is how many TV’s can you have on 1 subscription for $8.00 per month? I feel like I am missing something here and I do not want to assume it is for more than 1 TV. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

    • I think you can have it playing on 3 or 4 devices at one time. I’m positive that it can be on 2 devices at once but I’m pretty sure it is 3 or 4.

    • I have been watching on my computer and my husband on our TV at the same time before… so I don’t know for sure. But I bet their FAQ section would answer that. 🙂
