I am in love with Amazon!  I’m betting a lot of you are too- with all of the amazing deals they throw out.

One of the best ways to save is to use the Amazon Subscribe and Save Program.  However, did you know that if you add 5 or more items to your Subscribe and Save Subscription order, you will get an extra 20% off all of it???!

Here is an example of what you will see if you are on a page with a Subscribe and Save option:

In order for this to work, you need to use the Subscribe and Save option AND be an Amazon Mom Member with Prime. You can get Amazon Prime if you sign for Amazon Mom (It’s a FREE 30- day trial), or by signing up for the Amazon Student Program. After your free trial is over, the only option is a paid subscription for Amazon Prime.

Every month, my Subscribe and Save products ship out on the 29th.  Yours will be different depending on when you first starting using Subscribe and Save.  So I know I have until that date to order at least 5 Subscribe and Save Deals to score an extra 20% off.  And, that is on top of any ecoupon I clipped or discount I received.

5 Subscribe and Save Deals may seem like a lot.  But with all of the Amazon Deals that I post about, and that pop up each week, it is super easy to grab incredible deals on things like Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Cleaning Supplies and more.  So hitting your 5 is easy… and even more worth it with that extra 20% discount.

Go to Your Account and click on the “Your Subscribe and Save Items” link.  Then, you can see how many items you have coming so far this month, and how many more deals to search for that can help you save that extra money.

I personally cancel my Subscribe and Save Orders each month after I receive them in the mail.  Subscribe and Save prices can change with each subscription shipment.  I don’t want the price to go up a bunch between this shipment and the next and have to pay it.  If I want to order it again, I just add it to my cart when it is at a “Deal” price and that is the price I will pay.

If you aren’t taking advantage of this, I wanted to make sure you knew about it!  It can be a great way to save extra money–especially when you can get such great deals online already and save yourself some gas money!

  1. I do this too. I LOVE Amazon! We recently moved to a small town, and the prices for things are crazy. Amazon is totally saving my budget. Plus with Prime instant videos we just canceled cable. I love it!

  2. So does it have to be 5 different items?

    • I think so… i tried to do 5 of the same item (baby wipes) and after clicking subscribe i had a screen pop up saying that i only needed 4 more items to save 20%

      • It does not include baby diapers or wipes.

  4. It’s only 15% for regular Amazon Prime users. You are getting 20% because of Amazon Mom, it looks like.

  5. It’s 15% off for regular Amazon users also (no Prime required!). Still a pretty awesome discount since everything ships for free also.

  6. It is 15% until you hit the 5 items. Then everything changes to 20%. If I don’t have 5 items one month I move all my items till the next month. Always get the 20% discount :). And I don’t have amazon mom.

    • I think it’s actually 5% until you get 5 items, then 15%, but I might be wrong.

  7. I hate to admit I haven’t done much shopping on Amazon, but you guys are really making me think twice about it. I guess I’ve just been a little nervous since I don’t know much about the programs they have. How do you know when your order will ship? And what if the price changes on one of your items before it ships? Do you have to watch it all the time?
Do you go through the subscribe and save shop and put everything in your cart that you need for the month or do you wait until you see a good deal and then add it?
I’m trying to read more about it on Amazon, but it doesn’t give a lot of details. Sorry for all the lame questions, I would really like to try it.

    • The price you are charged cannot change once you pay. And you are sent an email with a link to a shipping carrier so you can track your package. You get two-day shipping with Prime. It’s fabulous. (Then again, I am on my father-in-law’s account so I don’t pay for it anyway!)

    • If you find a good deal on something, you purchase it like any other item on Amazon, but it may not ship right away. Everyone is assigned a certain ship date. My subscribe and save items always arrive on the 8th of the month. (Other orders are 2-day shipping.) So throughout the month as you see deals, you buy things and they are added to your subscribe and save “package deal” that is all shipped to you on the same day. You can add items to that month’s shipment up to a few days before it ships. You don’t have to watch the items anymore. You paid for that shipment already and the price is locked in for that month. Where the price may change is if you let them automatically send it to you every month or every few months. The second or third time it is shipped to you, the prices they charge you might be different. They just charge you whatever their current price is. That’s why Melea cancels hers each time and locks in her orders only at “deal” prices.

  8. So, do they issue you a refund of the change of price or what? Is it a credit on your amazon account? How does it work once you get the 5 items?

  9. When you add an item to your Subscribe & Save list for the month, the price doesn’t automatically lock and you do not “pay” for it until about 1 week before you are supposed to get it. I have experimented extensively just to be sure. So to get your 15% off, you must have those 5 items set up about a week in advance of your “shipment date.” A couple of weeks ago Popchips were 40% off (and my family loves them) so I added them to my Subscribe & Save HOPING the price would lock in and I would get an additional 15% off of that awesome price. Much to my dismay, it did not lock in and I ended up just deleting them because I am a stickler for getting a VERY good deal – even 15% isn’t usually enough for me! So lesson learned, next time a price is THAT good, I’ll have to skip my Subscribe & Save, unless I’m coming due for my payment (again, about a week before ship date). I hit 5 items by adding in small things like mousse, sunscreen or fabric softener. It’s a GREAT program – you just have to learn to maximize it’s savings. I hope this helps!!! =)
