There is a new technology for diapers that is starting to come out. Basically, the Smart Diaper will send Urine Data to your Smart Phone.

The hopes is to be able to see if your baby has a Urinary Tract Infection, Kidney Problem or Dehydration.

So first question…. Would You Buy Smart Diapers??

Second question…….. Would You Pay More For Diapers that Had This Technology??

  1. Nope and nope it’s kinda weird and I don’t even have a smart phone

  2. No. These are really weird and I can’t really see them going anywhere…

  3. Absolutely not. I’m sure that someone will buy them but not me.

  4. Probably not. I already dislike that I have use Huggies instead of store brands for my kids (the store brands give them rashes). But just thinking on these, you wouldn’t have to use them all the time, maybe just one a day and that would be sufficient to get the data you need.

  5. I wouldn’t buy them on a regular basis, only if I thought my son was having either a bladder infection or kidney problems.

  6. I can’t imagine them being safe at all… With reports of cancer being caused by having a cellphone to close to your breast, I wouldn’t chance this… Seems odd and dangerous to me… I won’t buy

    • I totally agree.

  7. I wouldn’t buy them. If I thought there was a problem, that would be a good check maybe, but a trip to the doc would do the same thing and cost about the same for us. I would not pay more for the technology…

  8. No way! With three kids under 20 months I can barely afford store brand diapers. Definitely not paying more for this.

  9. Now THAT is the MOST RIDICULOUS thing I’ve heard of in awhile. Parents need to be more hands on with their kids…. put the phones down and spend time ‘hands-free’ of technology. This is just being lazy and leaving the real parenting and care of our children up to an app that probably isn’t even very accurate. Let’s rely on our natural motherly instincts to know what’s going on with our children by spending quality, hands-on time with them, not leaving it up to app and ‘smart diaper’ to tell us if our kids are getting a UTI or are dehydrated.

  13. No way, this sounds ridiculous. We have gotten along just fine without them!

  14. Some people have way to much money to spend. This is stupid, I have 4 kids and all of them used “normal” diapers and never had any of the problems listed above. Waste of money!

  15. That is insane. Seriously!

If you are a parent who’s changing your kids diaper on a normal basis, you know when there’s a problem anyway.

Crazy waste of money! And I agree, I wouldn’t think that would be safe for little ones either!

  16. I would not even think of buying these. Super crazy to me.

  17. I totally would!!!!!

My baby has kidney issues and going to the doctor for urine tests is expensive too. It would be nice to have these around (if they actually work). Obviously wouldn’t use them regularly but for those times I suspect something might be wrong why not throw one on and possibly save a trip to the doctor or urgent care!

  18. No and no. Stupid. Highly doubtful they will provide information needed even for those who do have children with kidney stones or other problems. I feel like they will “tell you” theres a problem when theirs not and vice versa. I can just see all those parents flooding into the Doc office saying: “my childs diaper says he’s sick!” lol. They will go no where.

  19. Absolutely not!! Does not seem safe at all!! I can only imagine years from now hearing about how smart diapers are linked in infertility or cervical cancer. Not worth the risk, especially when your pediatrician can tell you the same thing!

  20. Seriously!? No! Be a good parent and pay attention to your child, not what your phone is telling you

  21. I am not a parent and if I was, I wouldn’t buy these all of the time but I would keep a couple around in case I am concerned that my baby might have a problem. Even if you just use one occasionally to monitor your child, it is probably less expensive then my doctor copay.

  22. Absolutely not. Parents have been able to get along just fine without such “techno diapers”. Just spend time with your child and you’ll know if any of the symptoms for dehydration, infection, etc is happening WITHOUT a stupid diaper telling you so.

  23. I agree with Cassie. My little girl has always struggled with kidney and bladder problems. I would only use them if I think there was something going on. Not only a daily basis. I have 3 other children and wouldn’t have ever thought about using these diapers on them.
I will also say that I would be a little nervous about having electronics so close to delicate areas but, lots of people have things inside of them! Pace makers, etc.

  24. So, I would definitely not use them everyday, but I could see keeping 4-5 around. My daughter had a problem with UTIs and going to the pediatrician or the walk-in always involved catherizing her. And if you think it is uncomfy for a grown person–try doing it to a 6-18 month old. We did it probably 6 times for suspiciously high fevers with no viral indications. And most of those times it was a UTI. If I could just strap on a diaper for 2 or so hours and have the info sent to my phone, it would have saved her a lot of ouchies. Luckily, she seems to have grown out of it. But I could see buying them and using them selectively for those sorts of situations.

  25. While I wouldn’t buy these regularly, I totally agree w/keeping a few on hand for when I think it may be a possibility she had a UTI. Granted, I’d have to know they work before I spend the money. One of my twins has frequent UTI’s & this could be helpful.
Can I just say, all of you saying a good parent would be able to tell if their child had a UTI just by paying attention, are all very insensitive. My daughter has an EXTREMELY high pain tolerance. I often don’t know when she has a UTI till I see blood in her urine, because she doesn’t complain of pain, her urine doesn’t smell & she rarely runs a fever with hers. The first time I spent nearly an hour in her pediatriac’s office crying cuz I felt like such a horrible mom for not seeing it before I did. Luckily her ped at the time was an amazing woman & not only told me exactly why I wasn’t a bad mom, but said its not uncommon for young children to show no or very mild symptoms. Luckily she is now able to verbalize that it “feels weird” & I can take her to the dr right away.
Some of us struggle with feeling like bad parents enough as it is, we don’t need to be told we are by someone who doesn’t know. I’m not a perfect mom, but I love my girls more than anything else in the world & I care for them to the best of my ability, just as I’m sure you do.

  26. Wow!! 360 million diapers !! I would not pay more for this technology even though it’s amazing. I might buy them if they do NOT cost more than regular diapers.

  27. I am a nurse and I can see where they would be good but it would be silly to use them all of the time. It could potentially save a trip to the doctor if you think something is wrong and it could help with the decision of whether or not to go to the doctor. But using them as your regular diaper would be like checking your child’s temperature every few hours, it would just be unnecessary.

  28. No and no for many of the reasons already stated.

  29. I don’t think this is something I would buy or use all the time. My children haven’t had many issues with UTI’s or dehydration, up to this point. Diapers are pretty expensive as it is & I don’t think I’d like to spend the extra money for this product. However, I will say that if the technology proved sound & there were no issues, I might buy a pack & keep them around for those times I wasn’t sure if there was a problem.

I also have to say while it’s easy to judge a product when it first comes out & those who use it, many of us change our tunes later on. If you think of all the products you use now that you would have never thought you would use even a year ago, you will understand what I mean. I thought bottled water was a weird & stupid idea, once upon a time. Now, I buy cases of it because I like the taste & convience of it. I’m sure there are those out there that still think this is stupid & unnecessary & would probably judge me for buying it.

My point is, you have to do what works for you. If all of us had babies with UTI’s or dehydration issues, we’d probably think these diapers would be an awesome idea. I don’t think it’s fair to judge other people by what they do or don’t do according to our standards. If there is one thing that I really hate as a mom, it’s feeling judged by other people, especially other Moms. I think it’s something that happens way too much & needs to stop. If you don’t like a product or idea, good don’t use it then. However, there is no need to look down on someone else or judge them for doing it. Unless something is detrimental to the person or their kids, then who does it hurt if they want to do something that another person would never do? I’ll get off my soapbox now, I just felt I needed to make this point! 🙂
