Like to go in with friends and family on gifts but don’t like having to collect all the money? Amazon has released a new program called Amazon Birthday Gift and it allows you and all your mutual friends and family to send an Amazon Gift Card through Facebook without the hassle of collecting money from everyone!
Here’s how this program works:
- When you see that a friends birthday is coming up, you can start an Amazon Gift Card for any amount.
- Then, you can invite mutual friends and/or family to go in on the same gift card through Amazon’s easy sharing option.
- When your friends receive the invite, they can add any amount they want to the gift card. (They will pay through Amazon)
- And that’s it! When your friend or family members birthday arrives, Amazon will post the the gift card to their timeline wishing them a Happy Birthday from all of you!
The awesome thing is, now through June 21st, give 3 gifts and invite 3 friends to go in on each gift and you will receive a FREE $3.00 Amazon credit!
Please note, in order to qualify for the $3.00 promotional credit, you must 1) purchase 3 or more gifts through Amazon Birthday Gift during the promotional period (between 12:00 AM PDT on Monday, June 17 and 11:59 PM PDT on Sunday, July 21) that are successfully delivered to the birthday gift recipient within the promotional period, 2) invite 3 or more friends to join each gift, and 3) have an Amazon customer account that has been in good standing for at least 30 days prior to purchasing your first gift through Amazon Birthday Gift.
**Fine Print: Gifts and invites are sent through Facebook. So you must be mutual friends on Facebook & have a Facebook account. Other restrictions and details apply. Please read all of the fine print on the site.

As cool of an ideas as this is, I don’t think any of my friends would actually do this though. However my birthday was this week and I got a notice on Facebook from Amazon with a 5$ off 25$ purchase from Amazon! So that was nice!

I think this is a great idea. It would be nice not to have to collect money!

While I love the idea behind this, I really hate the whole ‘going through Facebook’ thing. For one, it severely limits the people who it would work for, since lots of people have numerous friend/family that’s not on FB or choose not to use FB themselves. I think that if they’d do it via email, it’d work a lot better. I know I’d be really hesitant to use the service with Facebook as the middleman.

I think it’s a great idea.

It’s interesting – we’ve been doing something similar for a year now with our birthday application. Main differences are that it doesn’t have to be a gift card (it can be any gift) and people can chip in via PayPal (so they don’t need to have an Amazon account).
