I wanted to quickly remind you all that it never hurts to ask customer service, for a discount, a one-time courtesy or a possible refund.  There are policies in place.  However, if a company is smart- they will do what they can to retain customers…especially those who have been a loyal customer for a long time.

For example, you might place an order and find out the next morning that they put out a new coupon or free shipping offer.  Considering your order timeframe was so close to the promotion, you can usually email customer service, politely explain your frustration and ask if there is any way for a possible refund of the difference.  Now this won’t always be approved.  But, I personally have had a lot of success with it!  **Some companies even have a price guarantee where you have 14 days to bring back your receipt and have it adjusted to whatever the current sale is.

Recently, I received a refund of $19.99 from a company because something similar happened.  $20 isn’t chump change.. and it is silly to lose that just because you missed a promotion only by a few hours.  So, it is worth a try!

Anyone else have an experience like this where they got a refund or discount just because they asked??

  2. I just recently bought some cardigans at target. I bought them on a saturday. Then on sunday the Target ad came out and all the cardigans I had just bought were on sale. They were at least $5.oo off what I had bought them for. So on Monday I was back at Target. I took them back to customer service, explained what had happened and asked if I could return them, and then re-buy them at the sale price. They said they do price adjustments for situations like this. So they scanned my receipt and they put $20 back on my card!! So yes, these situations do exist!!

  3. We recently bought a freezer online and had it shipped to the store. Between the time we purchased it and the time we picked it up it was discounted. So, when we picked it up my husband asked about matching the current price and we got over $100 back!! It DEFINITELY pays to ask!

  4. The same can apply to your cable/ satellite and phone providers. I just called my satellite provider and asked what I could do to reduce my monthly bill since the promotion price was over and I was able to lower my channels saving money and they gave me another credit just for calling. I have previously done the same with my home phone and learned about a new phone option that was much cheaper. It never hurts to ask!

  5. My husband is in the military so I always ask if stores/restaurants give military discounts. A lot of them do! Every once and a while a store will say that they don’t give military discounts but will give me a little bit off the total anyways. Also, always ask about AAA discounts!

  6. What are people’s experiences with internet? I don’t want to be one of the people who call or cancel every time a promo ends, but where is the best deal, in your opinion?

    • I just got my internet price reduced by almost $30 a month(!) by calling and asking. The customer service rep very nicely said that I should call when the promotional price was over and they could help me out again. Don’t worry about switching or canceling. If they want your business they will try and make you happy. I use Centrylink in Utah.

  7. Just bought a set of end tables at the furniture store today. Received a flier in the mail from that store a few days ago and if you brought it in, you could get $100 off of a $899 purchase. Our end tables didn’t cost that much, but my husband mentioned the flier and the salesman took $64 off our bill!

  8. A couple weeks ago I went online to purchase a 65×39 framed picture. When I was checking out I noticed there was a spot for a promo code. I didn’t have one so I emailed them and asked for one and they gave me one right away, it was for 50% off which saved me $300 dollars!!!

  9. I haven’t tried this personally, but I used to work with an impeccably dress lady who bought a lot of clothes, took advantage of this and would buy things full price and not wear them for 30 day and if the item went on sale or was marked down during that time period, she took in her receipts with her and got price adjustments in the form of store credit. This way she got the size and style she wanted before items were on sale or marked down (but she was a frequent shopper and befriended most of the sales gals in all of the stores).
