You will pay alot more upfront but you will end up with more for less money in the long run.

  3. My guess is option B. It is cheaper if you divide the price for each individual pill.

    Reply
  4. C. 300 pills for less than $16 seems like a good deal; that is if you have 3 $2 off coupons

    Reply
  5. Deal B is the best price, because the price per pill is the lowest at $0.0718. Deal A works out to be $0.1298 per pill, and Deal C is a close second at $0.0732. I love math like this!!!

    Reply
    • If you have 3 coupons c is only $0.0532 each. So long ad you have multiple coupons c turns out to be the best.

  6. The best deal is C.

  7. C is the best! Though $8.99 x 3= $26.97, if you have 3 $2 off coupons, that takes the total down to $20.97. If you subtract the $5 giftcard, you’re at $15.97! If you divide this by 3 (to get the price per box) you get $5.32 a box. These boxes also have double the count of the “cheaper” target brands! So in my opinion, option C is the best price per unit!

    Reply
  8. It is B in my opinion. You pay the least of 50 that way, otherwise with C it is 3.66 per 50.

    Reply
  9. I think C because its double the amount of the target brand but only $2 more per box

    Reply
  10. The best deal is B.

    Reply
  11. I think Option C is best, if you buy three boxes and use three of the $2 off coupons. With the $5 gift card taken into account, each pill is about 5 cents. Option A is 9 cents per pill and Option B is 7 cents per pill.

    Reply
  12. Without even doing the math I would say that I would buy the off brand because I wouldn’t use 150 or more of the medication before they expired so they would go to waste.

    Reply
    • absolutely agree with you smart thing to do spend less and get just what you need . why do you need 300 pill of Aleve they will expire soon.

      Reply
  13. B! Option C is 50 pills for $3.61. – Option B is cheaper!

    Reply
  14. Deal C is the best price with the $5 gift card and using the coupons, but you have to want/need that many pills! If you’re not going to use them by the time they expire, you’re better off going with deal B.

    Reply
  15. Deal C is the best. With the coupons and the gift card deal it makes each tablet only about 5 cents each. 🙂

    Reply
  16. C is the best deal per pill even with just one $2 coupon, but you also have to think about whether you’re really going to be using 300 Aleve tablets before they expire, because otherwise you are just wasting the money you think you are saving.

    Reply
  17. Well it depends if you are using 1 coupon or 3 coupons. If 1 coupon, then B is a better deal. But if you have 3 coupons, buy C!

    Reply
  18. My answer is C. With all the coupon and giftcard, it cost $.066 per tablet.

    Reply
  19. I think the best option is C, assuming you have at least 1 of the $2 off coupons and you will use the $5 giftcard toward other good deal purchases.

    Reply
  20. I think C is the best deal because those work out to $2.66 a bottle if they were 50 count bottles like A and B.

    Reply
  21. Option C is best if you would ever end up using 300 pills. (8.99*3) – (2*3)[coupons] – 5[giftcard] = about $0.05 a pill whereas the off brand is about $0.072 a pill and the other aleve is more

    Reply
  22. The best option is C. But that’s a lot of medicine. If you are a smaller household, I’d go with B since its only .01 more per pill.

    Reply
  23. I am not completely sure what the Aleve coupon says, but if it is $2 off 1 box. And IF you have 3 of those coupons then C is the best deal!!! It comes out to be just over $.05 per pill.

C is the better deal even if you only have 1 coupon. That turns out to be just over $.06 per pill.
The Target brand is just over $.07 per pill.

    So I definitely choose C!

    Reply
  24. If able to get three $2.00 off coupons, then definitely option C. That makes it .05 each pill compared to .07 and .08 in first two options.

    Reply
  25. Option C is the best if you have 3 $2 off coupons and get the $5 gift card

    Reply
  26. Option C if you use the 3 $2 coupons and get the $5 gift card this would be the best deal. However, you must check the expiration date to make sure you can use it all by the time it expires. It ISN’T a good deal if you waste it. Fun quiz! I love this kind of thing.

    Reply
  27. Using the coupon, option C is the best deal.

    Reply
  28. Option B. each pill is still cheaper!

    Reply
  29. C is the best option if you have 3 coupons and get the $5 back

    Reply
  30. C is the best deal. With all coupons and GC in scenerio C, each tablet comes out to be .053 cents. In scenerio B Each tablet is just over .07 cents AND it is the offbrand! BUT also you have to think how long is it going to take me to use all of these pills? For me, MY family would never be able to use all those pills. So it would be a waste for me.

    Reply
  37. Option C if you have 3 $2 off coupons.

    Reply
  38. most of the coupons state you can only use 1 coupon per purchase, so i think to get the name brand its better to with A. but being that the generic works just as well, B. is a good deal.

    Reply
  39. C is the answer because you have a 2.00 off coupon plus 5.00 gift card making it 19.97 for all three and you divide that by the count making it .06 per pill.

    Reply
  40. Deal C is cheaper if you use 3 of the $2 off coupons from the SS. You end up paying $20.97, but then you get a $5 Target gift card making it only $15.97 for 300 Aleve.

    Reply
  41. I only have one coupon, so C would still be more expensive. I don’t go through very much aleve, and would purchase the target brand 50 for the cheapest price right now.

    Reply
  42. The answer is C. Getting the gift card back makes it a better deal.

    Reply
  43. The best deal is C! Taking into consideration the $5 giftcard with purchase of 3, and the $2 aleve coupons you would get 3 100ct bottles for $15.97! You would pay $21.54 for the same amount of target brand pills.

  44. Option C

    Reply
  45. I believe option C.

    Reply
  46. I think it depends on how much you use. Pills going to waste because you won’t use them is not a deal. At my house we go through a lot so deal c is where it’s at.

    Reply
  47. I think Option B is the best for my needs. Option C would be slightly cheaper if you take into account the 5 dollar giftcard, but you also end up with 300 tablets! The difference is very minimally cheaper per pill with option C, so if you are only wanted 1 bottle, B is definitely the best. If you’re going for quantity, then C is technically better.

    Reply
  48. I personally think the store brand is the best. Option B. Yes Option C is better if you have the coupons but who really needs that many pills??

    Reply
  49. Option C is a much better deal.

    Reply
  50. C is the better deal by a few cents as long as you have the coupon, but you would have 300. I’d go with B because I wouldn’t buy that many for my small family.

    Reply
  51. Without coupons the target brand is the best buy at the lowest price per pill. Bt once you take the discount with the coupon the 3 100 count Bottles are a much better price per pill.

    Reply
  52. For my family, B because we don’t use pain relievers too often. If I were to buy option C, chances are we would end up throwing a lot away because I don’t see us using anywhere near 300 pills before the expiration date.

    Reply
  53. I think it is c. You would pay less per pill that way.

  54. Option B ends up being a better deal.

  58. If we aren’t using any coupons, B is best once you figure price per pill.

    Reply
  59. I’d have to stick with B for sensibilities’ sake 😉 We’d never use that many pills – but then again we could sell them for a profit!! lol

    Reply
  60. If price is comparable enough, I prefer name brands to store brands, so option C would be my pick. Granted, it gives you 300 pills, but if an emergency were to hit tomorrow, I’d have plenty that I would be happy to share with neighbors/friends that were unprepared. I always try to stock up on products that I think would be beneficial to others in an emergency.

    Reply
  61. Option c
Option a – if you buy 6 (since each is only 50) cost is $38.94 – $12 (assuming you have 6 coupons) total cost is $26.94
Option b – if you buy 6 (since each is only 50) total cost is $21.54
    Option c – if you buy 3 (100 count) – cost is $26.97 – $6 (assuming you have 3 coupons) = $20.97 – $5 (Target gift card for buying 3) = $15.97

    Reply
  62. option C if you’re going strickly by price. But who uses 300 Aleve before the expiration date?!?!?
I’ll take the 50 count target brand without coupons and minimum requirements every time!

    Reply
  63. Best deal is B. Target brand. It’s cheaper per pill…those you would actually have to look and see if the dosage is the same.

    Reply
    • Haha…nevermind…I forgot to add in the $2 coupon. C is the better option then if you have the coupon 🙂

      Reply
  64. I think C is the better option when using coupons.

With option A (including the $2 coupon), you would pay about $0.09 per pill.
With option B, you would pay about $0.07 per pill.
With option C (including three $2 coupons and the $5 gift card), you would pay about $0.05 per pill.

    Reply
  65. Deal C is the best if you have 3 coupons, 5.3 cents a pill, or 2.66 for a 50 ct. Deal B is 7 cents a pill, Deal A is 9 cents a pill. We would definitely go through 300 no problem, they last for years.

But, if you need ibuprofen and won’t waste a large amount, it is SO much cheaper to buy at a store like Sam’s Club. Right now at my club they have 1500 pills for $12.88- that’s less than 1 penny a pill, or 43 cents for a 50 ct!

    Reply
  66. The best option is option B. You have to buy 3 boxes of option c to get the $5 card. 3 boxes=$26.97. Subtract the $5 card for a future purchase its still $21.97. Option B is only 50 count so to equal the amount of medicine in option C you would need to buy 6 boxes (option c is 100 count). Option b X 6 boxes = $21.54. 21.54 is cheaper so option B still wins even though you don’t get any target money!

    Reply
  67. Option C if you have the SS Coupon… And will use 300 pills before they expire 😉

    Reply
  68. C,total would be 15.97 for the 3 boxes and a $5 gift card.

    Reply
  69. My guess is option A, unless you have coupons to pair with option C.

    Reply
  70. OPTION C is the best deal. Not only do you get the best price per pill (0.66 & stocked up) but, you also get to use a coupon & receive a $500 gift card. It almost sounds to good to be true. I’d not believed it had I not done the math.

FYI: This is how I always shop!! I know I look funny punching my calculator but, I want the most for my money. Thanks for the creative idea & giveaway!!

    Reply
  71. guess I’d go with B, but I’ll probably pass altogether since we don’t use that pain reliever much.

    Reply
  72. Option C is cheaper, if you want that many. You get the $5 gift card and with $2 coupon on Aleve it actually comes out cheaper by 6/10 of a cent.

    Reply
  73. If you have one coupon, option C comes out to be $0.06657 a pill and option B comes out to be .0718 a pill. So C is the best, if you need that many pills!

    Reply
  74. I say option B

    Reply
  75. C is the best scenario!

    Reply
  76. Option B is actually slightly cheaper, unless you happen to have a coupon for Aleve.

    Reply
  77. If you are buying the same amount of pills of each brand, it would cost $26.94 for option A, $21.54 for option B, and $15.97 for option C. So buy option C, stock up and save.

    Reply
  78. My answer is C for that many although if you don’t need that many then the Target brand is still a good deal.

    Reply
  79. With the coupon & target cash, option C is the cheapest. When you divide the price by the amount of pills you receive, you figure out the cost per unit price. Option C ends up being .067 per pill, option B is .072 & option A is .090. I almost forgot the coupon and said option B!

    Reply
  80. C is the best value for the money, but make sure to check the expiration date!

  81. Option C is the best when considering the $2 coupon per bottle, the $5 Target gift card and the 100 pill count per bottle. That is why I rely on my phone calculator while shopping to figure out the best deal!

    Reply
  82. No Coupons B, Coupons C

I agree though, my family could NEVER use that much medication before it expired…B would be the best option for us.

    Reply
  83. I am going with option C under the assumption that you have 3-$2 off coupons to use and with the $5 target card it is like getting them for $16.97 which works out to be .0565 cents a piece.

    Reply
  84. C is the best deal even if you just have 1 coupon. If you have 3 coupons, WOW!

    Reply
  85. If you have 3 of the $2 off coupons, it is only 5.3 cents per pill with option C (counting the gift card as cash, since I shop at Target enough that I would definitely use it). Even with 1 coupon for $2, the price is still better.

    Reply
  86. I say option B. You are going to be spending almost $30 with option C just to get $5 to spend at target only. Plus the off-brand works just as good as the name brand stuff.

    Reply
  87. I have to go with option B!

    Reply
  88. Ooh, this is tricky, since the “best deal” could mean a few things.

The best deal based on price per pill is C (if you have 3 of the $2/1 coupons and count the $5 gift card as money off the purchase of the pills, it’s about $.05 per pill).

Practically, though, there are probably very few people/families who need 300 Aleve pills or would even be able to use them all before they expired (unless they plan to donate them). So, even if the price per pill is cheaper, if you can’t use them or don’t need them, it’s not a better deal.

The next best deal based on price per pill would be just purchasing 1 box of the 100 count Aleve with the $2/1 coupon (which would be about $.07 per pill). If you wouldn’t use 100 pills before they expired and don’t care whether or not you use the Aleve brand, the Target Brand 50 count is also about $.07 per pill (and you wouldn’t have to pay as much up front, so it’s the best out-of-pocket deal).

To be honest, the best deal for me would be buying none of them, since I have a decent stock and don’t use Aleve very often!

    Reply
  89. Offer C is best if you can afford to stock up for years haha! After taking into account they have double the medicine count, if you use all available coupons you pay close to the same for double the amount and are set for a VERY long time unless you are a heavy user 🙂

  95. I like deal C the best, if you have 3 Aleve coupons it makes it the cheapest per pill.

    Reply
  96. The target brand. Cause it’s $21.54 and the Aleve brand would end up being $21.97 with the $5 gift card.

  105. I am going to say c but I usually end up going for option b in serino like this unless it’s something I really use a lot of.

    Reply
  106. I would go with B because I don’t think I would use all of them up in time. C is a better deal, but would be a waste of pills for me.

  107. option c is better deal if you have the $2 off coupons and can use the target gift card on another future purchase and if expiration dates do not expire.
option c is $0.05 per caplet with 3 $2.00 off coupons and $0.07 per caplet with only 1 $2 off coupon
option b is $0.07 per caplet if you do not have coupons or want 3 bottles
option a is $0.09 per caplet

  111. Price per pill, the best deal is Option C, especially with three coupons. For our household of two, the best deal would be Option B, since I know we couldn’t use 300 Aleve before they expired, so it would end up as wasted money. It’s fun to see how alike/different we all think at the store! 🙂

    Reply
  112. I think that C is the correct answer. Although you end up paying more up front, it is the overall best value.

    Reply
  113. Option C is the best deal if you have three of the coupons and will actually use all of that medicine.

    Reply
  114. Option A comes out to $0.089 per pill when you take the coupon into account, option B comes out to $0.072 per pill and option C comes out to $0.067 per pill when you take into account the $2.00 off coupon and $5.00 gift card. So option C is the best deal!

    Reply
  115. A = 4.49 per 50 count box
    B= 3.59 per 50 count box
C= 6.66 per 100 count box after all the deals or $3.33 per 50 count
But for only .26 cents per 50 count, I would go with B unless you use a ton of Aleve. 🙂

    Reply
  116. I would go with option B. You would be getting a cheaper cost per pill with C but, I could never use that before it expires. One thing that I’ve learned from couponing is don’t buy things you’re not going to use because ultimately that doesn’t equal to saving money.

    Reply
  117. My figures above are based on having only 1 of the coupons for the entire purchase. 🙂

    Reply
  118. C is is the best price per caplet if you use 3 of the coupons. If you aren’t going to use 300 caplets before they expire, it might not be the best option for you. But if you will, C has the best price per unit.

  119. C if you have three coupons!

  120. Option C is the best price per pill, if you use the coupons. For our household of two and a baby, though, Option B is most likely to get used before the expiration date. 2 boxes of Option C would collect dust in my medicine cabinet and get tossed out after it expired, so it would be a waste of money in the long run. It’s fun to see how each of us think alike/differently at the store!

    Reply
  141. I would say b is the best. With option C you are getting tons a pills (probably more than you can use) and you have to buy a lot to get the gift card. So I would spend less and go with target brand B.

  142. Definitely C!!! Using the coupons (must have 3) is a better deal even before the $5 Gift Card. The $5 Gift Card is a bonus!

    Reply
  143. Deal C, assuming that you have 3 coupons and can use that many pills before they expire.

    Reply
  144. You notice the store brand is for 50 pills @ 3.59 while the Aleve is 8.99 for 100 pills. You have to buy double the amount to equal the Aleve and if you didnt have coupons involved its only around a .40 cent difference if you buy the same amount of pills INCLUDING the $5 giftcard. But if you have the $2 off coupon obviously the Aleve is the better deal. You save about $2.40 buying the Aleve compared to the off brand but in my opinion…unless you use that on a daily basis, save your money and go with the off brand a box at a time.

  147. The Target brand are a better deal. The $5 Gift Card option works out to be $0.0732 per pill where as Target is $0.0718 so its super close! I would personally go with Aleve though because that is a brand I love and Trust where I have never used the Target brand pills before!

  149. For the lowest OOP you should buy option B the Up & Up brand. However, if you want to stock up at the best prices per unit/pill option C with the $2/1 Aleve coupon and the $5 GC back would be the best option.

  150. With the coupons: option C because Aleve 100 count cost about $2.61 for 50 ct after all the discount)
Without the coupons: option B because Aleve 100 count would be about $3.61 for 50 ct
I also think that your purchase will depend on how often you use Aleve and if you would be able to use all of them by the expiration date.

  151. This is why I love this website, so much information to learn!! As you have said before, just because it has a coupon doesn’t mean it is a deal if you are not going to use the product. Deal B would be better for our household.

  156. The 50 ct 3.59 Target brand. It comes out to $.0718/pill. The other one, while technically $22 (after subtracting the $5 gift card) for 300, still comes out to $.073/pill.

  157. For the lowest price “C” is the best options. For my family though “B” would be the best deal because there is no way we would go through 3 bottles before they expired so I would end up throwing some away, voiding any savings I would have receive from the $5 gift card.

  158. C is the better option. With the coupon as well as the $5 gift card, plus you are getting double the amount in each bottle.

  159. It is 7.1 cents vs 7.3 cents to buy 3 of the target brand vs. the sale Aleve (100 for 8.99, figuring in the $5 gift card discount you will receive). Almost the same. I guess it doesn’t matter, so for me I would buy the Up brand because I don’t need 300 tablets.

  160. B. It’s only a little bit cheaper than C, but cheaper is cheaper.

    Reply
  161. Definitely C is the best price assuming you are using three of the Aleve coupon. When the coupons and giftcard are taken into account, each box of 100 Aleve is cheaper than each box of 50.the store brand is the cheapest per box, but wight this deal you are getting twice the amount of pain killer for little more.

  162. oops, that was per pill. 7.1 cents vs 7.3 cents per pill

  163. C is the best deal per pill if you have a coupon for ALL 3 bottles, if not I’d go for the Target brand since I’d never use 3 bottles before they expired anyway 🙂

    Reply
  164. Option C is the best deal, if you want to shell out that much money at one time. Each bottle is $6.99 (with coupon) and with the $5 gift card you spend $15.97 (after gift card) for 300 pills which equals about 5 cents a pill.
And if you have a target red card you can save a little more 🙂

  165. So here is the break down of the math- I timed everything by 3.
    opiton A- 6.49 x 3=19.7/150 (number of pill)= .13 cents per pill
    option B= 3.59 x 3=10.77/150 = .07 cents per pill
option C = 8.99 x 3= 26.97- $2 dollar off coupon – 5 (gift card you get back)=19.97/300 = .07 cents per pill if you have three 2 dollar off coupons your total is 15.97/300= .05 cents per pill.

option c is best if you have 3 $2 dollars off coupons plus you get name brand. If you only have one $2 dollar off coupon and you don’t care about the name brand then option b and option c is the same price per pill.

    Reply
  169. Option C is the best deal but option B would be my pick because I don’t like spending a lot of money to save a dollar or two overall. Because then I’d end up with a ton of medication and I wouldn’t use it before it expired!

  170. If you have three of the coupons then C would be the best deal taking into account the $5 gift card, but ONLY if you will actually use that many. It’s highly unlikely we’d use that many before they would expire so we’d end up wasting a bunch.

  176. If you use the coupon, B is the best deal, because you get twice as many for less than twice what the Target brand is.
If you have the coupons, etc. the $5 gift card does not make it the best deal. You always feel that that means you’re taking an additional $5 off. You’re not. It’s a $5 off a future purchase. Which is great, and if I had all the coupons, I’d do that and then go get some Legos or something.

  181. With the coupons and gift card I would go for C!

  182. Deal c if you have three coupons

    Reply
  183. I think that C is the best deal. With my calculations, option A is about .09 cents per tablet (after you use the $2 off coupon), and option B is about .07 cents a tablet. But option C would mean that you do $8.99*3= $26.97. Subtract the $2 off coupon and the $5 gift card, makes it $19.97. Then divide that by the 300 tablets and that makes it about .066 cents a tablet, so they are only about 6.5 cents if you get 3 of the 100 count boxes.

  195. This is kind of a trick question. If the best deal means spending the least out of pocket, go with the store brand tablets. If you factor in coupon(s) and the gift card, the best unit price is on three 100-count bottles, which you’d pay between $20.97 and $24.97 (depending on how many Alleve coupons you have) out of pocket, plus you’d get a $5 Target gift card. However, if you can’t use 300 Alleve before their expiration and you can’t/won’t use the Target gift card, this wouldn’t be the best buy.

  196. By math c is the best option unless you don’t need this much Aleve. If you are buying more than you will use c could turn out to be the most expensive!

If you have 3 of the Aleve coupons, then option C is your better deal at $.05 each pill after you factor in the gift card. Or, if you don’t use pain reliever very much, your best deal is D-none of the above , because you probably have pain reliever in your stockpile! 🙂

The gift card couldn’t be used on this deal anyway; it would be good for your next trip to Target, hence enticing you to spend money again. I would go with B because it costs less per pill, wouldn’t be more than what I need or could use before the expiration date, and doesn’t lure me into spending more money up front thinking I’m doing myself a favor in the long run.

  225. Option c. Because if you buy 3 and have 3 of the coupons its 15.97 after gift card and you would have to buy 6 boxes of the target brand to get 300ct and it would be 21.54 for all 6 boxes

Its nice to stock up, but I’m learning to stock up on only how much my family will use.

But if you don’t need that much Aleve then option B is better because, though you are spending slightly more per pill, you are paying less during that particular purchase and only buying what you need.

The best deal is between B and C depending in your budget that you should have set no matter where you are or what deal you are buying. I get a monthly “food storage” budget as well as a weekly “non-foods” budget (which is smaller and has to cover everything from dish soap to diapers) If there is room in my monthly budget set aside for stocking up then option C it is!!! If not then walk away with option B this time and know that another deal will surely come along soon 🙂

And you are getting the name brand as well. So option C! Which some people think that is a ton of pills but it is a great thing to put away in your food storage.

  257. If you factor in the coupons, and the 5.00 gift card, C is the best deal since it is cheapest per pill. If you don’t have the coupons, B ends up being a better deal since it would be the cheapest per pill.

I personally would choose option B though, because my family probably wouldn’t use 300 pills by the time they’d expire, so we’d basically lose money with option C if we didn’t use them all.

In this case they cost the same, but since C does not need to be rounded up as much, I would get more “value” per pill (paying $0.08 per pill for a $0.080 pill instead of paying $0.08 per pill for a $0.077 pill).

Without factoring the gift card, C would require a coupon discount of around $3.50 total to be equal to that of B (per pill).

  273. Option C. is the best option. $8.99×3=26.97 then with coupon for each box make the total 26.97-6=20.97 So you will pay $20.97 but with the $5 gift card it will technically make it $15.97. Which makes it the cheaper option if you are figuring a total of 300ct. for each scenario.

With the $5 gift card it’s like you’re paying 15.97 for 3 boxes of 100-count Aleve. 300-pills for 15.97 is a great deal and better than the other two deals.

Answer A comes out to 13.97, but you don’t get as many pills and answer B is $10.77 for 3 boxes but again you don’t get as many pills.

  284. Deal C is the best. Not only do you get the name brand instead of store brand, the amount per pill is cheaper buying the Aleve. You would have to buy 6 boxes of the target brand to get the same amount of pills in deal C, (buying 3 boxes)but would pay more for the target brand.

However, if you don’t go through medicine that fast, and you end up throwing half of it out, then the Target brand is the better deal. I have a big family, and I’m not opposed to taking a few expired ibuprofen, so I’d probably stock up while I can. 🙂

  287. Option C because you will get 300 pills for $15.97 (including $5 gift card). You would have to buy 6 Target brand 50 ct bottles which would = $21.54. That was pretty tricky because at first glance, I would guess the Target brand.

Even if you didn’t use any coupons, option C would be $7.32 per bottle (after the $5 gift card) … or $3.66 per 50-count. The other options would cost more for 50 count.

If you used one coupon, each bottle would be $6.65/$3.32 per 50-count

    Two coupons … $5.99/$2.99 per 50-count

    Three coupons … $5.32/$2.66 per 50-count

Definitely “C” – though I’m not a big medication taker – I love having this in my car/all first aid kits/diaper bag/ 72-hour kits, and because these things are so subject to temperature fluxuations, I like to change them out as much as possible… the choice “C”, with the $2 coupon and $5 gift card, makes them $.01 cheaper per pill! And I do like name brands – especially when they are cheaper!

If the coupon doesn’t apply because you are getting the gift card, then the best answer is B. With C, you have you buy a total of 300 capsules, so if you do the math and act as if you were buying 300 for all the options, C is the cheapest at $15.97, BUT if the coupon for $2.00 off doesn’t apply to option C then option C becomes $21.97, and then B is the cheapest at $21.54 for 300 capsules.

    Or
    C. $8.99 x 3 = $26.97 – $2.00 (1/$2.00 coupon) = $24.97 – $5.00 gift card = $19.97 divide that by 300 pills = .067 cents per.

  354. I’m thinking Deal C, but let’s do the math:

    300 pills + $5 gift card = $27
    300p +5D = 27D
    300p = 22D
    13.64p = D
    D = 100C
    P = 7.3C
So, about 7.3 cents per pill with deal C

    50p = 359C
    P = 7.18C
So, about 7.2 cents per pill with deal B

SO, assuming that Target’s offbrand is just as good as genuine Aleve, B is a better deal by about a tenth of a cent per pill.

  363. I would do option B. It’s less expensive and having that many pills around the house isn’t the best of thing. You most likely won’t use all of the 300 pills in Option C before they expire. Going through a pharmacology class I learned that it’s best to never use medicine once it’s expired so you shouldn’t have large quantities of pills around the house.

    Reply
  364. The answer is simple when you do the math.
    A. 6.49 – 2.00 coupon = 4.49/50 = .0898 cents per pill.
    B. 3.59/50 = .0718 cents per pill.
    C. 26.97 (3 boxes x 8.99) – 2.00 -5.00 = 19.97/300 = 0.665 cents per pill. And that’s if I only have one of the Aleve coupons. If I have 3 of the $2 Aleve coupons, that knocks the price down to .0532 cents per pill.

Either way, answer C is the best deal per pill price. However, if I don’t have the need for 300 pills before they expire, I can either donate them to my son’s school, or I can buy the Target brand as the second best per pill price. Answer A is definitely the most expensive price per pill.

  394. Deal C is the best. If you use 3 coupons it come to 0.053 a pill and if you only use 1 coupon it comes to 0.067 a pill (rounded up). Although, buying so many pills in Deal C doesn’t make sense for our small family. Just buying 1-50 count bottle may mean we have to throw some of the pills away when they expire. For our family buying Deal B for 0.072 a pill makes more sense and less waste.

    Reply
  395. C is the best deal…. BUT since I wouldn’t use them all before they were well past expired, I’d go with B.

    Reply
  396. If you can use the coupon with either size of Aleve, and you count the $5 gift card as a discount on this purchase instead of on the transaction where you actually use it… Hmm, let’s see:

    Option A: $6.49 – $2 coupon = $4.49 tablets total cost/50 tablets = 8.98 ¢ per tablet
    Option B: $3.59 total cost/50 tablets = 7.18¢ per tablet
    Option C: 3 x $8.99 = $26.97 – $5 gift card = $21.97 – $2 coupon = $19.97 total cost/300 tablets = 6.65¢ per tablet

So option C is cheaper per tablet, but will your family use them all before they expire? Throwing away unused medication is neither frugal nor good for the environment. If you choose this option, plan on splitting the cost with friends, or donating the extra bottles to a charity which accepts medication. Our food bank doesn’t, for instance (they just throw them away.)

I would still go with the house brand unless someone in the family uses large amounts of Aleve on the advice of their doctor. I know someone, for instance, who was prescribed prescription strength ibuprofen (800 mg per dose) but buys generic ibuprofen (200 mg per tablet) over the counter at Sam’s Club and takes four to equal the prescription dose. Ends up much cheaper for the year, and she doesn’t have to keep refilling a prescription.

  419. Deal C is the cheapest but need to have a use/need for that many pills!

  420. Option C is the best price per pill, but there are some other things I think you need to factor in. I used to buy pills in bulk, but I noticed that the older the pills get (even by just a couple years), they don’t work as well, and I don’t use them often enough to have them all taken by that time, so there is a potential money loss there with the larger Aleve. However, my daughter has tested different types of medication in her biochemistry class, and noticed that in some cases when the medication is not name brand, there is less of the actual drug and more of the “filler” that makes it the pill/capsule shape. So that makes the Target brand (option B) possibly not great. So, with the coupon, option A might be the best, as I know it should work and a smaller bottle should be able to be used up before the expiration date.

  421. Deal C is the best option, but you have to take into account that you might not use that many pills. So if you would only use a few pills then Deal B would be better.

  424. Option c is best. Both option b and c come out to about $.07 per tablet. If you can get the name brand for the same as generic it’s a deal, especially if you need to stock up. Of course, if you don’t want to spend more up front option b is better. It just depends on your needs.

  425. Option 1 is definitely the worst value. The other two calculate to about the same if you have only one coupon. If you have more, then the third option is definitely a better buy per pill. But it is only the way to go if you will actually use that many of the pills before they expire and if you don’t mind a little bit more in the inital outlay of cash.

Therefore, you can use three $2 Alleve coupons (assuming the coupon is $2 off per product—I don’t have the actually coupon so I don’t know) and as long as the coupon says you can use more than one identical coupon (see Target coupon policy). With option C you get 300 tablets for $15.97. With option B, 300 tablets would cost $21.54. With option A, 300 tablets would cost $26.94. Therefore, C is the best deal.

A- Aleve 50 Count Tablets $6.49 – for 300 tablets it would cost $38.94 use 4 $2.00/1 coupons (I think target allows 4 like coupons) it would bring your TOTAL to $30.94

B- Target Brand 50 Count Tablets $3.59 – for 300 tablets it would TOTAL cost $21.54

**********C- Get a FREE $5 Gift Card with purchase of 3 Boxes of 100 Count Aleve for $8.99 each – for 300 tablets it would cost $26.97 use 3 $2.00/1 coupons and it would bring your TOTAL to $20.97 then you receive a $5.00 GIFT CARD bringing your TOTAL down to $15.97 or $5.32 per bottle or $0.05323 per pill *********

I wouldn’t buy any Aleve, because of medical concerns – saving myself $$ right off the bat! LOL

  503. C is the best deal. its approx $27 for 3 boxes but then you subtract $6 (3 $2 coupons) and the $5 gift card you’d get back, you will end up paying less than $16 for 300 pills. That’s cheaper than A or B.

  505. I think the best deal is option B. Granted option C is cheaper, provided you have 3 of those coupons, and you negate the $5 gift card.. but medicine doesn’t have very long shelf life, so unless you have people to share it with (or some major pain issues that you don’t want to see a doctor about), I’d go with option B. 😉

    Reply
  506. Option C is the cheapest for 300 pills which is how many you would have to buy for the $5 gift card. It would be $19.97 for 300 and including the $5 gift card. Although I have a hard time taking a gift card out of the total price of an item because I usually buy something totally different with a gift card. We use mint so everything has a category and an associated budget. So I often use extras like that to put towards a budget that needs a little help. So if it were me the cheapest would be B for 300, $21.54. Option C would be $24.97 for 300 without the gift card. Sorry for the long reasoning, that is my rational when I am out shopping and comparing deals.

  509. It depends on what your budget is! Deal C gives you the cheaper price per pill, but do you really want to spend $20? If you don’t need all 300 pills to get you through the day, then deal B, the generic item, would be the cheapest way to go. You would spend approx $4 (with tax), get the product that would hopefully take care of your pain, and still have $16 left over to spend on whatever else you need. Sometimes spending more money to get the cheapest price per pill isn’t always the smartest thing to do.

  520. If you are going straight price per pill and have three coupons, option C is the best. Aleve, however, has an expiration date. I would never use 300 pills of aleve before they expire, so that would be a waste of my money. Thus option B would be best for me.

  545. This is my FAVORITE pop quiz EVER!!! I am a coupon AND math GEEK!!!
    Here are the scenarios:
Option A: Using the $2.00 off SS coupon, bringing the price down to $4.49 per box = $ .09 each pill
Option B: No coupons, just straight $ .0718 each pill
    Option C: 2 different scenarios
    1) If you have only ONE $2 off SS coupon, then here’s your math:
    $8.99 x 3 bottles = $26.97, less $5 Target GC offer, less $2 coupon = $19.97/3 bottles = $ .0665 each pill
    2) If you have THREE of the $2 off SS coupons, then here’s your math:
    $8.99 x 3 = $26.97, less $5 Target GC, less $6 in coupons = $14.97/3 bottles = $ .0532 each pill

SOOOO… The mathematical answer would be OPTION C, either way you look at it. Having 3 of the $2 off coupons is obviously best, but if you only have 1 of them, it’s still your better price per each pill than Option B, by just a little bit.
HOWEVER… If you look at it from a REAL WORLD standpoint, or at least my personal view, OPTION B is the better choice for my family. I personally take Aleve products, and so does my husband, but we don’t take more than maybe 2 in a week at the most. Therefore, 300 tablets would last me 3 years, maybe more, and would long outlast the expiration dates on the bottles. I would be better off buying a Target brand bottle every 6 months.
But ON THE OTHER HAND, if I were to go in with 2 friends, and if I had 3 of the $2 off coupons, I would do it this way: Purchase the 3 bottles with the 3 coupons, charge each of my 2 friends $6.99 per bottle (which is a slightly better deal than the Target brand) and keep the $5.00 off Target GC for myself, bringing MY total down to $1.99 (considering the GC) and a lovely $ .02 per tablet. And THAT would be the BEST DEAL. Of course after going out to lunch with those 2 friends, even with lunch coupons, etc… I would spend way more $$ on the FRIEND OPTION, but it would certainly be more FUN!!!

Thanks, Melea, for the fun math word problem!!! =)

  549. Deal C would be the best deal. If you buy 3 boxes of 100 @ $8.99 that equals $26.97, use the $2.00 coupon to make it$24.97…get the $5.00 gift card to make final cost of $19.97. If you bought the Target band you would have to buy 6 boxes which would make it $21.54 but you would not get a $5 gift card.

  550. I am going with C
    Purchace 3 & 8.99 +=26.97-5.00=21.97-2.00=19.97/3=6.65 for 100 pill box
the store brand for 50 pills is $3.59
    100 pill box /2= 3.33 pr 50

    SO “C” wins!!!!

  551. I think the best deal is buy 3 and receive the $5 back. It makes each pill about a penny cheaper than the up and up brand.

  552. Deal C if one were to use 3 $2.oo off coupons for each of the 3 boxes. Then subtract $5 gift card from total for a rough figure of $5.33/100ct box or 5 Cents per tablet. Compared to the smaller Aleve box of 50ct with $2 off coupon cost would be 9 cents per tablet. Target brand would be 7 cents per tablet. Personally Deal B is better for me because I’m lucky if I get through one bottle before it expires.

  553. Deal C is the best deal but unless you took the time to figure it out, many people would think there is no way for this to be cheaper than the off-brand!

  556. Option C is the best! After coupons (you’ll need 3) and the $5 gift card, you’ll pay $0.05 for pill

    Reply
  557. I believe C is the answer because it gives you 50 tablets for about $3.33. Whereas, A is 4.49 for 50 tablets and B is 3.59 for 50 tablets. That was the easiest way for me to figure it out.

  558. c. is the best deal. .066 a pill if you do it the way you said in that option.

  559. Option C is cheapest when factoring in the coupons and the gift card reward, but I have to agree with some who have commented above – for my family’s personal needs I would just buy option B for two reasons: 1) we often need the money up front…sometimes we can’t afford to spend $21 (instead of $4) in order to save money in the long run, and 2) the second and third bottles would probably expire before we used them. Thanks for making us all put on our thinking caps! 🙂

  560. Option A – with the coupon the 50 ct Aleve would be 0.0898 per pill (4.49 for 50 pills
Option B – 50 ct store brand would be 0.0718 per pill (3.59 for 50 pills)
Option C – If you buy 3 Aleve 100 ct and have 3 coupons that would be 0.0532 per pill (20.97 for 300 pills would be 0.0699 per pill but if you take off the $5 gift card, 15.97 for 300 pills)

I would go with Option C

    Reply
  561. I would say C because you can use the coupon plus get the gift card if you purchase 3

  562. I would say it depends. For me it would probably be B, but for someone else it could be different. You have to take into consideration if your body reacts differently to the target brand than the name brand, also the mg. Couldn’t see if the mg was the same on the large bottle as the small. Then look at the expiration date and see if you think you would use all of the pills before or by or around that date. Then how many coupons you have and how often do you shop at Target to use the gift card. Things to think about.

  563. B is the best deal, unless you have at least 2 coupons, in which case, C is the best price

    Reply
  564. I would pick B – I don’t have an issue with store brand and to buy an equal amount of pills (300) you’d buy 6 boxes at $3.59 = $21.54. With the Aleve box of 100 – you have to buy 3 for the $5 back. Spend $29 – $5 = $22.

    Reply
  565. Totally missed that $2 coupon – with that the best deal is the Aleve – buy 3 boxes of 100. $27- $2 coupon = $25, and get 5 dollars back. Comes out to $20 for the 300 pills. Definitely C!

  566. option C!

  567. C will yield the cheapest per pill price of course (assuming you have 3 coupons), but unless you’re popping Aleve like Tic Tacs why would you need that many? I’m not one to follow the “expiration dates” on medications because it’s a known fact that drug companies merely stamp those on there because they can’t guarantee the potency after that date, not that the medication is bad…overall it’s about how much I value my storage space. I don’t buy in crazy bulk for this reason and you really do end up saving more in the long run by buying what you need. Who needs 4 bottles of ketchup if you can’t afford to buy the burger it goes on? I would buy B and just use what I need. 🙂

  568. If you will use the $5.00 traget gift card – the buy 3 would only cost $.03 if you use 3 $2 off coupons and add the $5 gift card.

  569. Two options, and it all depends on if Target will let you use the $2 coupon and still get the $5 gift card. If it won’t, then option C comes out to .0732 cents per pill and the Target brand comes out to .0718 per pill, making option B a better deal. But if Target lets you use the $2 coupon and still get the $5 gift card, then option C is by far a better deal.

    Reply
  570. C. Because it ends up being less than $3.50 for 50 pills.

  571. While mathematically C works out to be a cheaper per unit price I’d never go thru 300 aleves before their expiration date so for me B would be a better choice when you factor in the potential for waste.

  572. the naproxin store brand is 2 cents cheaper than the target deal

  573. Deal C is better by a small margin. However, we don’t use Aleve very often in our household, so I would probably just get the Target brand. If this was on Ibuprofen or Tylenol, I would definitely buy the bulk for that deal.

    Reply
  574. Holy tons of comments! haha – I would say C because it is 100 count, and once you take off the $5 gift card, it’s close to the same price as the target brand, but it’s double the pills!

    Reply
  575. Depends on how you look at it. If all you need is 50 pills, then option B is the best way to go. However, if you have a need for 300 pills and you have coupons, go for option C. If your budget allows you to buy in bulk then do so. But don’t overbuy just to save a few cents per item when you are actually spending more money than you need to.

  576. I would say that option B is the best option, if you only have one coupon. If you have the need/can use more pills, and had 3 coupons to use, option C would be awesome! That was a fun puzzle with coupons and deals. Thanks.

  577. You didn’t say if you had multiple coupons for the $2.00 off.
A . works out to be .089 per pill using the coupon.
    B. works out to be .071 per pill
    C. works out to be .066 per pill with one coupon and the $5.00 gift card (which I’d consider a rebate)….or .053 per pill with 3 coupons and the gift card.
C is still the best option if you can afford the up front cost.

  584. The best deal is C. If you have 3 $2.00 off coupons then the pills are about 5 cents each. Even if you only have one $2.00 coupon C is still a better option because the pills would be less than the 7 cents a peice in B.

  594. First, you’d have to be able to use 300 Aleve or Target brand before they expired, because if they aren’t used they aren’t a good deal. I’m pretty sure I would never even come close. You could buy as little as 50 with either the Target or the Aleve smaller bottle, so it might be a better deal just in the fact that they’d actually get used. If you want to compare price per pill, however, the 100 count with the $5 back would be the best deal. I did this assuming that you’d have the $2.00 off coupon for all of the Aleve you purchased and that they worked for both sizes of Aleve. Actually, it would be cheaper for the Aleve 100 even if you only had 1 coupon

    Aleve 3 boxes of 100 count – 3 coupons
    (8.99-2.00) * 3 – 5.00 = 15.97/300 = .053233 … per pill

    Aleve 3 boxes of 100 count – 1 coupon
    (8.99-2.00) + 8.99*2 – 5.00 = 19.97/300 = .066566 … per pill

    Target Brand 3.59/50 = .0718 per pill

    Aleve 50 count (6.49-2.00)/50 = .0898 per pill

That’s assuming you don’t lose the gift card before you use it. 😉

  601. The best price per pill is the 3 boxes of 100 Aleve with the $5 gift card. That might not be the best value, however, since most people would end up throwing out a good number of them as they would expire before being used.

  602. I would go with B, cheapest per pill. First I would never use the 3 boxes before they expire. I might think about C IF I hand a bigger household whom would use them, or maybe if it were a different brand.

  603. C is better with the $2 coupon, but I wouldn’t buy three boxes unless I had three coupons and was getting some for friends. They alwys expire before I use them all.

  604. Option C is the best with 3 coupons plus we are talking target so I use my own sack to save another 5 cents and my target debit card to save another 5%. Then I donate two of the bottles to my mother in laws church that takes such products on their medical missions and I get a “credit” for my taxes as a donation in kind for the original amount of the bottles. It’s a win win win! 🙂

But of course, you’d have to be certain that you would use all 300 before they expire, because unused items are a waste of money. I would personally buy B.

C= 29.67 for 300 or 26.97 if you count in the $5 target card
