Last year, I wrote a post helping all of you to know what a good price on Halloween Candy was.. here is a portion of it for everyone who wasn’t a F2D reader last year:
Halloween Candy is expensive! Every year I notice people purchasing Candy at unbelievable prices. But, when I think back to what I paid before I knew about coupons and finding deals, I was probably like that too!
First of all, let me say that everyone is completely different. You may think my price point is too high, or too low for you- all depending on your lifestyle and your time. And that is totally ok! I just thought I would share my thoughts on it, in case any of you are interested.
In my humble opinion, any small Fun Size Bag of Candy around the $1.50 mark or lower is Killer! You will see them advertised for so much more than that. But expect crazy deals to be popping up all over… especially with your coupons!
How Do You Get Your Halloween Candy Cheap?? Leave a comment and share your great idea!
Laura
Finances are tight this year. Not sure if I’ll be handing any out. ðŸ™
katie
I buy halloween candy at Dollar Tree. I just saw bags of Blow-pops, gummies, candy corn and all kinds of other stuff over the weekend.
Alice
Clip all the coupons you can for candy when you see them. Then, when you see a sale, you should be able to get a great price when combined with your coupon. Last year, I bought so much candy for cheap!
Nicole
Good to know, I never know what a good deal is on candy and hate buying tons of it for Halloween. This will help out.
Meghan S
Thanks for the advice!!!
Angie
I buy my candy at Winco in the bulk section and I always save SO much money doing this. Kids don’t care anyway so it works out perfect!
Debbie Fabre
It’s just so expensive. I try to buy at my bulk store.
Priscilla Morgan
I live in a small town and get anywhere from 100-150 trick-or-treaters! So it’s really important to me to save money on candy. Last year I watched the sales on amazon.com really closely and was able to get killer deals on candy – with FREE 2-day shipping!
Heather
I am looking forward to seeing these deals– my kids’ birthdays are in November and I am also having a baby (insane…) so I decided to have a Halloween themed party last week in October. What kid does not like more candy? Haha! So anyway, it will be nice to stock up on treats for the actual day and for the party. Thanks 🙂
And thanks in advance to helpful commenters!
Stephanie
Always keep your candy coupons with you. You never know where you will find a good deal. Also, remember most candy freezes really well. I like to buy it after Halloween and then use it later in the year!
Walgreens usually has some good deals so keep your eyes pealed.
John Doe
Why buy Halloween candy at all if you are going to freeze it? Just go trick or treating and set it aside for next year!
Kari
I spend so much on Halloween candy that i found its actually cheaper to buy the full size bars at Costco and give them out.
cari
I dont care if it has halloween colors on it, or anything like that on the packaging. If it is near enough to Halloween and I see a good deal on candy, and maybe even have a coupon, I usually pounce.
Kaelin
I buy Costco usually to get better deals.
Katie
I just try to buy candy that I don’t like…..otherwise I eat it all!
Heather McDonald
I know winco usually has a sale for their wrapped candy for 99 cents a lb.. Cheap!!
Andrea
thanks for all the good ideas!! This will help when buying candy this year!! 🙂
Brenda Webb
I try to find coupons and match with sales, and stock up! They will last a long time!!
Kristy Patterson
So I do this not for halloween but christmas. I go buy the left over halloween candy and store it for christmas
Edith
We actually don’t have trick or treaters in our building, so we don’t buy in advance. I just wait for them to go on sale and I buy a bag or two for us to have around as a snack.
Christy Barnson
I remember when the prices per bag was $1.50. Yes, that was ages ago. Time to watch my coupons for candy. Luckily we only have a few trick or treaters down our street, so I don’t have to buy much!
Paula
BJ’s Warehouse Club often offers coupons for good Halloween candy. Watch their mailers if you’re a member. You can also pair those up with manufacturer coupons. 🙂
Lindsay
Yeah, with coupons you can usually find pretty decent deals. $1.50 is about my limit too. Last year I bought WAY too much though.
Amber Atwell
I agree with you! Prices on everything have gone up so much! a good coupon especially whith an in store sale are always awesomes ways to save money! Dollar atores are great to get sone of the best prices even on candy!
Jon
We buy ours at Costco great price for a lot of candy
Sally Reay
Buy at dollar store and it will be cheaper.
Lori Lind
This is very useful! Thank you!
Shannon E.
I usually buy at Sams club. They have big boxes of halloween fruit snacks or mini bags of microwave popcorn that are halloween also. I think they also have halloween pretzel individual bags that would be fun to hand out other than candy.
marnie
I clip the coupons and wait for a deal at cvs with ECB. It works out great!
Jen
Last year Toys R Us put their candy on clearance for 70-90% right before Halloween. I hope they do it again this year
Cathy
I don’t buy a lot of candy, since we are not home anyway. But I wait till the day of usually and buy what’s left. haha!
Shae
Great tips from other commenters–I never think to do coupons for the candy!
Julie
As far as candy, we watch for Amazon sales or hit Winco in the bulk section. We have also given out the little Play-Doh (at the time they were actually cheaper than the candy we were pricing out). We have also given out singel serve potato chip bags, even capri sun. Kids just like getting something.
Barb M.
I love all the cool stuff and deals I would never know about without your site. Thank you.
Lena Naef
We buy candy at the Dollar store!
Carol
I buy mine at Dollar Tree or Family Dollar, usually cheaper most the time!
Camille wyatt
Wait tell you get closer to Halloween unless you have a coupon cause prices are cheaper closer to Halloween.
Sarah
good to know! I never know what a good price is.
Amberly Lambertsen
Good information! Thanks!
Laralyn
I always have the hardest time with Halloween candy! My big question is is it better to buy early or late when it comes to Halloween candy? Do you find better deals at the beginning of October or closer to the big day?
sarah
We usually buy at Costco. I feel like I end up spending so much more when I buy a little here and a little there.
Kathy
I don’t know if it’s the cheap way of doing it but I just buy a bag or two whenever I am out at my local stores and they are running good deals. Of course with teenagers in my house, they sometimes break into it early but I don’t mind once in a while. By the time Halloween comes around I always have plenty and a wide variety of kinds so I can give each kid somethig they like. 🙂
Sarah Kelley
I keep my coupons for candy with me whenever I head to the store. Last year I ended up with too much candy and ate too much myself! 🙂 I like the idea of buying clearance Halloween candy for Christmas, thanks!
Linda Rogers
With the deals you post, I always end up buying WAY too much! 🙂
Taryn
Thanks to freebies2deals last year I was able to get killer deals on the good stuff (chocolate) last year, I believe at Walgreens!
Mandy
Great reminder, thank you!
Julie
Usually around this time of year you can find coupons hanging around the big bags of halloween candy. Last year I found $1 off coupons for bags of snickers right in front of the snickers display!
Katherine
thanks for the info and advice! 🙂
Lizzie
Dollar store!
Heidi
I too have purchased way to much Halloween candy the last two years, but I always use it later in my kids lunches or for Christmas. We always make a candy countdown chain for Christmas just after Thanksgiving.
Bette
We usually do Costco or Target when they have their “2-for’s”…
Erika
I know this doesn’t help for actual Halloween, but I usually buy discounted Halloween candy the next day at Target.
Shira Jorgensen
I always buy mine right before:)
anna
I pounced on the free shipping you posted for oriental trading company. With their Halloween sale, I got free shipping on a 45 pc. pac of eyeball smarties pops for cheap. And I didn’t have to leave my house! Free shipping combined with sales is my favorite type of deal.
Melissa McKendrick-Morris
I buy a huge bag of candy at Costco it goes a long way and I believe its like $15… I always seem to have tons of leftovers too.
brittany d
I try buying things that are smaller and really different from what people usually give out. That way, I can get more for my money, but the kids still like it because they got something unique.
Rena Galvez
We like to buy toys when possible because I remember them being more fun than candy. Oriental Trading company had bulk toys for really good prices and we always check the $1.00 bin section at Target too.
Amber K
It is so expensive! We mostly get younger kids so I get two bags from the bulk store and when it’s gone, the lights go out.
Sandy Passey
In my neighborhood we have upwards of 300 trick or treaters each year. I always keep an eye out for deals and usually buy some cheaper candy for the majority and I set aside good candy (chocolate) for friends and people I actually know!
Debbie Kurson
We do not hand out candy any longer 🙠WAY TOOOOOO many big RUDE teenagers coming and very few little cute ones. Plus hubby was just diagnosed with diabetis.
Check out stores that carry candy for pinatas for cheap candies to hand out.
We will get a few bags to have in the freezer for son and I -which I will get after Halloween.
Aimee Berger
If you check the non-Halloween candies, they are often a lower price at Halloween time. They have to keep that stock rotating too!!!
Katie
I’ve been hoping you’d start posting about Halloween candy soon. I’m craving 😉 But, as my hubby always says, he can’t wait until the day after Halloween when it all goes on super sale..
Toni
Thanks for all the ideas to save on candy. It is nice to have a price point for a great deal Melea it helps me know what is a good deal vs a great deal. Thanks!
Michelle Houser
Last year shoprite I had a bunch of candy on sale for 1.99/bag and I had .75 coupons from All You which doubled. Can’t beat .49/bag for halloween candy and I only need 4 or 6 bags for the kids.
Lindsey Wright
I save my coupons! Usually this time of year Red Plum and others like it issue coupons for 1.00 of 2 bags. I save two of those coupons and used a smiths coupon and got three bags of the GOOD fun size candy bars for 1.00 each!! Sometimes I buy it in bulk at Costco or Sams Club as well!
Kristi
This week K-mart has fun sized candy bars 2.50 a bag. With 1.00 off 2 bags from the SS and if you spend 25.00 or more they will double the coupons. That makes them 1.50 a bag- I think this is a great deal as well!!
Sevina W.
Thanks for tips cause candy is not cheap because we get so many kids at our door!
Chelsea Funk
We try not to give out candy. But fun little prizes from dollor store pencils , bouncy balls, last week there was a great deal on play dough that I purchased. Watch after Halloween sales and stock up for next year.
Amee
ummmm…candy!
Tabatha Barrick
We buy after sales!
Erica
This time of year, I start clipping all the coupons for candy that come. Most of them don’t expire until Halloween anyway. Especially now that the dollar store is accepting coupons, you should be able to get some really good deals on candy this year!
Liz P.
Those dollar store shoppers might want to double check what they are getting. The bags are usually smaller than what you’ll find elsewhere and when added up you might not be getting as good a deal as something that is 1.50. But I totally agree about buying something I don’t care for too much, that way I don’t eat it all myself!
Shari Willis
We don’t eat candy, so I try to buy other things to pass out on Halloween. I know it’s probably a little more money, but hopefully I’m saving more on the dentist 🙂
Ashley C
Thanks for the great ideas!
Sabrina
We go trunk or treating so we don’t have to buy tons of candy. I always love to find deals though.
judy kimery
i’ve never had a price that i’ve set for candy, well halloween or party candy that is. i usually buy the mixed bags. i will start too since my kid’s schools usually ask for them. if i have leftover candy from things or people from parties, i usually just hand those back out since my kids don’t get to eat them. wonder if that’s bad or just cheap lol.
Tansey Hall
Thanks for the tips! I will be keeping that in mind when buying candy!
Shawna
I use coupon with store deals at much as possible.
Melody Biggs
Amazon has good deals pop up, but you have to get them fast or they sell out!!!
Cristal
Better sales closer to Halloween.
amber
The amazon deal last year was awesome… I am hoping for that again.
Julie Barker
Right now I have a few 1.00 off coupons, but that’s when you buy three bags. I try to use my coupon and price match to get the best price.
Kelsey
I love Halloween candy! I can’t buy to too early or I just end up eating it all!
Natalie
Thank you for the awesome advise!
Crystal
Great advice
Erica Nelson
I try to wait til they go on sale & then try to buy candy with a coupon.
Bethany Taylor
Cheap candy for Halloween is always good to find.
Melissa W
Thank you for the advise! I really need to save for candy this year!
Juliet
Thanks, sometimes it is hard to know if I am getting a good deal on candy since everyone is having a sale but not all of them are great sales.
LoriN
I buy my candy after Halloween when it is half off as long as the expiration date is past next year’s Halloween. Last year I got enough candy for this year’s 300+ trick-or-treaters for about $3.
Heidi V
This is very helpful advice…thank you!
Megan P.
We usually buy it at sam’s club. You can also hand out non-food items and can get some of those pretty cheap as well.
Leeann Williams
I clip coupons for MONTHS before halloween- and if the coupon is about to expire- I stalk coupon sites to see if it is a good time for a great deal on the candy! I usually have a stock pile by the time Halloween gets here 🙂
Robyn
Combining coupons and sales always helps to get it for cheap.
Cindy W
Stores like Target have their in store coupons which can be combined with mfr coupons for a nice savings. Just watch for the store coupons in the mail or on their website.
Heather
I like to buy candy in bulk from Winco. It’s cheap! Also I saw several coupons in the paper this weekend for candy if you don’t have a Winco in your area.
Lani
I keep my coupons on me all the time and usually get a pretty good deal that way. My price point is about the same as yours $1.50 for a small bag. I also try to make sure that I have something that the younger kids can eat too, like smarties.
Nichole Seiler
Keep showing these posts so we can find cheap halloween candy
Catrina R
Clip any candy coupon you can find and then wait for a sale to get an awesome candy deal
Jessica
I try to get a deal and pay $1.50 but no more than $2 for a standard size snack size bag of chocolates.
Jeni Hooper
I find the best deals at family dollar and dollar general as we dont care if it is name brand or not and they usually have good prices! Thanks for the great info!
Julianne
I’ve decided that I need to wait until the day before Halloween so I can purchase based on the weather!! Ha! Ha!
Annalese Thorpe
I love the deals on amazon- then you don’t have to fight the crowds!
Sarah
with money being tight this year and my sons birthday on Oct 30 then Halloween I really need to find killer deals so thank you for all of the awesome ideas
Rachel R
I usually get star bursts, skittles, and smarties from the clearance section LAST year. They last forever:)
Christine
Thank you for this! I don’t follow candy prices and I’m never sure what a good deal is when Halloween rolls around. Now I know what to look for!
Cari Brown
This is really helpful – thanks.
Meagan S
I appreciate buying candy ahead of time when there is a sale but there would be no candy left if I did that (my husband and I have zero self control). So I may just wait until the very last minute and buy whatever I can find. Preferably something I detest eating.
Jena
This is so great! Thanks for the information. I seriously have no idea when it comes Halloween time, what are good deals for candy.
Christie A
I feel like if I can use a coupon, it’s a good deal. Looking forward to more posts from freebies2deals on where prices are best! 🙂
Jenny
Last year you posted some great deals that amazon had! Thank you!
Ashley
Thanks for the post. I’ve been waiting for great deals on Halloween candy 🙂
Brianna Henderson
I buy the cheapy candy for the trick or treaters (sorry kiddos!) and wait for after the holiday to buy the clearance candy for myself! Muahahaha 😉 Thx for the giveaway chances all the time!
Vanessa
Last year, I was able to find some great deals using coupons at Rite Aid combined with UP+ rewards or at Walgreens combined with the RR. If I am remembering correctly, I don’t think I paid more than $1.00 per bag after all was said and done. I also was able to get some very cheap candy the day(s) after Halloween when everything went on sale.
Heidi Watson
Yeah I love t hear about cheap prices on Halloween Candy!!! It can be so pricy!!!And it’s the last thing I wanna spend money on!!!!
Sarah Q.
We don’t get many trick-or-treaters, so we just waited until after Halloween to get the candy on sale. I love Halloween!
Jenny
Another thing – right after Halloween when things are only 30% off, it’s still worth it to go because I’ve seen those mini lego sets for super cheap and that’s the best time to stock up on those things.
Emily
I hit up the dollar store. They have fun sized bags of candy such as M&Ms as well as their Halloween candy out. It is the cheapest I can find for this stuff.
Denae
I agree that Walgreens has pretty good prices when you pair it with a coupon. Just be careful because sometimes the bags are smaller than the ones you get at WalMart. Also, I usually buy right after Halloween for Christmas stockings. My husband loves snickers and I love butterfinger and M&M’s, so I buy bags for a dollar right after and save them for Christmas. This last year, I also bought plain miniature Hershey bars and put it in my cold storage to have for S’mores this summer. It worked great! I always hate that stores try to sell you 6 packs of Hershey’s bars for $3.99 during the summer…talk about a ripoff!
Tammy Moffat
When I have todo cheap fillers for candy guessing jars I go to the dollar store, otherwise I try to cut coupons like everyone else and hope for the $1.50 price!
Natania
Thanks for this post and posing this question — my husband and I never know where to get the best deals on candy or how much is too much to be spending. Looking forward to reviewing all of the responses.
carli
We go to my mom’s and trick or treat so SHE buys the candy! We usually buy about 5 things of capri sun (they are usually on sale for $1.00) and set those out on the porch while we are gone!
Rachel
I like costco’s selection and I’ve actually been a big fan of the fun shaped pretzels. Then, the kids are at least getting something with substance into their bellies!! But I generally feel like coupons are the way to go for Halloween candies especially when there’s a 2/for deal.
Abby Larsen
I usually get my candy at Rite Aid. I keep rolling the up rewards so I get a killer deal!
Jamie Newman
I always keep my coupons with me and price match whenever I see it go on sale somewhere.
paige
Amazon often has candy on clearance, especially RIGHT before the holiday.
Jenny
If you’re not going to be home, I saw a cute idea on pinterest: poke a bunch of tootsie pops (or other suckers) into a pumpkin and leave it on your doorstep. It’s a great idea, plus suckers usually aren’t as expensive as the candy bars!
Julie Denson
Melea does such a good job at helping us find candy deals. She is awesome!
Heather Silver
I have seen people hand out things like pencils, stickers, bracelets, playdoh, etc. Maybe check out Oriental Trading or some discount stores for some other ideas.
Lisa
I try not to buy until the week of Halloween because it ends up getting eaten and then I have to buy more so my bargain I may have found ends up costing me twice as much!!
Katrina Southwick
I love finding a deal on halloween candy but I find if I buy it too early I tend to eat it before I can give it away!
Debbie E.
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I am always looking for the best deal on Halloween candy! I usually buy from Sam’s Club because just one or two bags are more than enough. If I buy smaller bags, I tend to spend more and have too much left over – which I then myself! Better for me to give away too much, then not enough!! 🙂
Shannon
Holla!
Natalie
In the past I would have recommended Sams or Costco, but I moved to a house that I know won’t have any trick or treaters 🙠Our neighborhood is quite quiet so I may have to take advantage of some of the deals posted and give the candy directly to my kids 🙂
Karyn H
Thanks to everyone for their ideas about ‘where’ , ‘how’ and ‘price’ for candy buying. It’s great when everyone shares their tips.
Bri Bolander
I buy mine at dollar tree or sams club. Now that dollar tree takes coupons I can get it even cheaper!
Krystal M
Sam’s Club, coupons, dollar store… all are great ideas. But my favorite is AFTER Halloween, when they are having fantastic sales on all of the Halloween candy. That’s when I really stock up!
Leslie Christensen
I think Sams or Costco is the best for Halloween candy IF you get a lot of trick or treaters.
In an old neighborhood of mine I found myself buying a lot of candy, and having way too much left over. So if you don’t get many trick or treaters, a couple of cheap wal mart bags will probably suffice, but if you get a bunch Costco all the way!
Kennedy Noel
Costco is the way to go!
Rebecca Jensen
That us usually the only time I buy it, when I can find it that cheap. I usually find good deals at rite aid
Emily
The price of candy is so high so any candy coupons are helpful, I try to buy candy I like incase of leftovers.
Brittany
Not sure about finding deals on candy for Halloween.. Last year Rite Aid clearenced their Fun Size bags for $.99 after Halloween. These had regular packaging and I was able to stock my stuffings for Christmas with them! Great deal!
Laura C
I try to buy the candy the kids like, but I don’t…it keeps me from eating it! If I get a really great deal I freeze it for stocking stuffers.
Megan
I like the bulk bins at Winco for a good variety!
Jessi Newman
Awesome! I’m never sure what a good price for candy is!
Jennifer
I will be the first to admit I’ve been a sucker in the past. But I’m paying closer attention this year. I typically use a Target + MFG coupon. But even then, I don’t know that I’m getting it down under $1.50 for a fun size bag. BUT I score big on xmas. After the kids get back from hitting the neighborhood, I check the candy. After the kids go to bed, I raid the candy, setting aside a good chunk of non-holiday specific candy. This gets turned into their Christmas Stocking candy, and candy that we use during the xmas season for special cookies/treats, etc. Works perfect every year!
Brook
Thanks! I love having a price list of good stock-up prices when I shop 🙂
saber
I still have candy from easter that i stocked up on when it was on sale at target the week after. I will be handing that out for halloween 🙂
Heidi Sedgwick
Thanks for the tip! I’ll be looking for deals on candy!
Nicole
I love it when you tell us what is a good stock up price for something. Sometimes I think I got a good deal on something and then I see on your site that maybe I could have gotten it cheaper.
Laurel
Watch for sales and use coupons! Also, I try and hand out something other than candy if I can find it. ie: Halloween Rings that I find at Michaels with a coupon etc.
Lisa Pay
Great ideas, thanks everyone!
Krystal
Last year I got a good deal from Oriental trading. They have some fun and different kinds of candy too.
Brittany Mangelson
I go to the WinCo bulk sections! I can usually get pretty good stuff for close to $2/lb.
Heather
Last year I saved my coupons and waited for just the right deal to pop up and it did at Toys R Us. I totally amazed the cashier with my huge savings, so I would advise to wait, because I’m sure the deals will pop up. The Toys R Us deal was nice because there were no limits.
Dianna Torgersen
Thanks, I always wonder what a good deal is- excited this year because I ordered stuff from Oriental trading last week- free shipping and the sale aisle… Flashlights and silly bands!
Michelle
I agree that $1.50 is a killer deal for the mini candy bars. Hoping I can cash in on the Toys R us deal this year.
Heather B
wow thanks! I usually look for sales, but I don’t coupon for candy usually. I have used Amazon in the past though and felt like I got a good deal.
Amanda Barry
We all need to celebrate it the week after and get it on clearance 🙂
Katie R.
We usually get a big ol’ bag of candy at Costco. Works pretty good for us.
Ambrey
Thank you! I am new to all of this and I have actually been wondering about this.
carla dahlquist
the $ store is really amazing now
Jessica
I look for the sales on candy and try to use a coupon if one is available! Sometimes I buy it in bulk bags too
Colleen P
Thanks for the info. It’s good to know what a great price is. Last year I bought a lot of candy ahead of Halloween using coupons during sales. It was great, except that I had lots of tempting candy around!
Whitney D
Go to Costco or I wait until I get twice the value coupons from Albertsons. With good coupons and a sale along with their twice the value coupons, it’s a great deal!!!
Chari
Candy! Love it and hate it! I look for all the coupons I can get to help. We live in a very busy neighborhood so I need lots!
Carolyn
I like the bulk bins at Winco…great prices!
Sue A
I buy clearance candy after halloween.
Stacie
I’ve noticed that the Halloween reeses are cheaper than the regular reeses at Walmart. Maybe that goes for all the candy too.
Lauren Evans
The cheapest I have found Halloween candy is at winco! It’s $1.88 a bag. I’ve been searching for cheaper but have yet to find it!
Kara Rolf
There are have been really great coupons in the Sunday papers lately for candy. Sometimes I think that Rite Aid & Walgreens have the best deals when you use coupons. Plus you get points on the rewards cards!
kim
I get one giant bag from Costco and then use coup0ns and sales on a few small bags
lacy hilton
I like buying the day after halloween!
Kate
I used to wonder whether it was a better deal to use the coupons (usually you have to buy 2-3 bags) rather than buying the larger mixed bags (which are usually cheaper per piece of candy). I found last year, that it was still slightly cheaper to buy several smaller bags with the coupon. I bought at Target, but will consider the other suggestions here for this year. I like the idea of little toys rather than candy.
Jennifer Keyes
Love when you do price comparisons for us….candy is expensive!!!
Shanna
I found good deals on amazon in the past
Kellie J
Thanks for the info. It seems like I never get a good deal.
Kellie J
April
I don’t usually buy candies during october because it’s more expensive so I buy candies (of course, with coupons) couple months before halloween so I don’t have to pay the expensive cost of it.
Hannah
Perfect! Thanks for letting us know! I am curious if Sam’s Club or Costco is good for candy or not so much??
Alycia
I watch Amazon closely. The sells are amazing, but move lightning quick! Just keep checking throughout the day and sometimes they will restock, and free shipping to my door! can’t beat that
Yona Roberts
I usually watch CVS and use coupons to buy the candy.
Rachel
I usually wait until close to Halloween to buy for my daughter’s school parties. I watch for coupons too!
Ashley
I usually wait for the B1G1 sales at Publix and use coupons if possible. It usually makes a great deal. I also saw where Oriental Trading sells big bags of candy, but I didn’t have anything handy to compare it to. Does anyone else know if it is a good deal?
Courtney B
Buying the candy on Halloween day is a great deal, too! It’s ALWAYS on sale that day. (gotta love procrastinator’s like me!)
Chandra
Toys r us usually has a big sale the first couple of weeks in October, so I wait for that, and then price match it at Walmart since that is closer to me and of course use coupons. I am with you… $1.50 is a pretty good delio!
Kristen F.
Very helpful! Thank you for this information.
Rachelle Anderson
Yay for 9/24/12!! Thanks for the deals!! 🙂
Hatty B.
Thanks for all the advice. I’m a coupon believer and always try to pick up on a sale + a coupon.
Laura
I have all of my candy coupons clipped and ready for a sale…can’t wait!
Tammy
I usually buy in bulk at Costco or Sams.
Sally
coupons and sales make me happy along with the sugar. 🙂
Jeremy Martin
We buy toys instead of candy and it has been a big hit in our neighborhood.
Mallory Franco
Great to know! thanks!
Rhonda Miller
I try to find the lowest prices I can. I usually shop Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Wal Mart. I don’t buy a lot as money is tight, but there’s usually enough for my needs. Where do you find the fun size bars for $1.50?
Brittany C
I just bought a bunch of boxes of of the mini fruit roll ups when they were on sale. $1 for 18 is a way better deal than candy bars and they are just as big so the kids like them. I will mix those with fruit snacks, pretzels, and some regular candy and let the kids have their pick.
Debbie
I like to give out 2 or 3 pieces to each kid so I am excited to see what deals I can get this year!
keely hostetter
Thanks, I was just at CVS trying to decide if I should hold out or get candy now with their sale.
mandi
amazon was kind to me last year for candy!
Liz C.
We don’t really get many trick-or-treaters at our house, so last year, I stacked some coupons on top of store savings at CVS and Publix and got individual boxes of raisins and then got some spider rings at party city for about 25 cents each. Worked perfectly for our handful of kids.
maren watkins
whoa! i too have been grossly overpaying. i do usually stock up after halloween sales at target for christmas stuff. (just make sure to get ones that i won’t eat!)
Marcee
I will sometimes pick up candy that doesn’t go bad after holidays and then use that to give out. It’s super cheap and things like suckers can last awhile.
Jaime
thanks for all you do – great advice!
Melanie Healey
Cut out coupons from the newspaper or Red plum and stock up when it’s on sale.
Ronquil
Amazon sometimes has good deals on candy!
Jennica
I just buy Halloween candy at Costco. They have a great price for a GIANT bag of candy.
brandy bisbee
THANKS. I THINK LAST YEAR I DIDN’T PAY MORE THAN $1 FOR THE FUN SIZE BAGS. THERE WERE KILLER DEALS AT THE GROCERY STORES. HOPEFULLY AGAIN THIS YEAR.
Chantel Snow
Usually the coupons that come through the newspaper and walgreens advertised prices give me the best deal
Wendi
I’ve watched clearance for otter-pops and have given them out (not frozen of course). 🙂 My kids have received them in the past and think it’s fun. Turns out to be pretty cheap too and I’m not tempted to eat them. 🙂
Melanie
I know i way overspend on candy. I am one of those people who go to walmart two days before halloween and grab a big back for like $5-6…wow. to be able to get it on a good deal would be amazing. Maybe I should start now and look online for deals. That is what I want.
Krista Pritchett
I wish I knew how to get it cheaper! I wait til the day of and it usually drops in price. Other than that, the only tip I have is wait until the day AFTER Halloween!
Jana
I heard about a cute idea…Using a nail and hammer, make several small holes in a large pumpkin, then stick suckers in all the holes. This is also a good one if you’re not going to be home but still want to leave a treat. A big bag of suckers is super-cheap and because of the cute presentation they may not feel like it was a chintzy treat! 😉
Stacy
I’m pretty sure I saw this on your blog. But…I love it when you can pair a mfg coupon with Target coupons and really score on several bags of candy!
trisha
Good to know. Thanks!!
Pamela Marshall
I always buy the clearance bags of the fun toys from last year and save them for the next year so I don’t usually give out candy. This way they get something fun and unique but they always have to do a “trick” before they get there “treat”.
Jullee
I think candy gets so expensive for Halloween! We do a Trunk-or-Treat and Halloween candy on Halloween. It’s like I do two Halloweens. The kids love it though so it’s all in good fun. I ended up buying the play doh deal at Kohls and can’t wait to give away non candy this year.
Reanna Tuft
I like going to the store the day of Halloween to buy my candy for 2 reasons. First I don’t have to fight temptation to eat it if it’s not hid in my cupboard for me to sneek into. Second, the prices are usually dropped to atleast 50% off.
Tammy
Otter pops are cheap and very popular with the kids!
Danielle
I can’t wait to see more of the deals you will be posting for Halloween candy
sasha
Im trying to give out pinata style toys versus candy this year. It was candy overload last yr between buying it then when your kids are done trick or treating you wind up with TONS of it all over again. Im giving away small toys and halloween trinkets this year.
Mandy
buying halloween candy is such a pet peave….so expensive
Sarah king
You will save the most money by buying candy at Costco .
Heather
Every year I try and find a fun but healthy treat as our schools always ask for it now.
Gretchen
coupons and a sale!
Cathy
I’m with you — any deals for $1.50 or less are the best! Hope they have some good deals this year. Thanks for making my life easier with all these deals.
Amanda tullis
I always hold out for a great Walgreens sale. They have never failed me. I’m guessing there will be lots of balance rewards on candy this year too!
Kendra
I haven’t done it before but I’m thinking I’ll get the clearance candy after Halloween and save it for Christmas. Bulk candy works good too. We usually get the big tootsy roll variety bag for our trick or treaters.
Marilyn Holje
I get my Halloween candy when the sales come on and use the coupons I’ve been clipping to get a really great deal!
Olivia
Halloween is a dangerous holiday for my teeth!
Rachelle
Very helpful! Thank you!
Brittany Smtih
This is really helpful, I’m never sure how much to spend so thank you!!
Lisa
Thanks for the helpful info–I hate spending too much on Halloween candy!
Megan
Thank you for the tips! This will come in handy
Cassidy
Its really nice to have a reference point with something like this. I try to save money by only buying 3 to 4 bags and buying them when they’re on sale and use coupons.
Audra
I was just wondering what good prices for Halloween candy is. It seems like prices have really gone up lately. It’s great to see everybodies comments and the things they do to get a good deal.
Kate Nielsen
Wow, I really love the comments on this. I’ve been spending way too much on Halloween candy!
Penny
We usually go to my sister’s to trick-or-treat, so I don’t buy Halloween candy! If anyone knocks on the door after we get home, I give them candy from my kids buckets!
Leslie
I think your price sounds great. Thanks!
Michelle Foust
Cant wait to stock up!
tarynnr
Having that frame of reference is extremely helpful, thank you! Keep us posted on good chocolate deals!
Tiff
I have been using my register rewards from Walgreens to get “free” bags of candy. Also I buy the non-perishable Halloween goodies on clearance for the next year.
Casandra
We don’t get a lot of kids trick-or-treating. This year we saved to go to Mickey’s Halloween party and I hear they give a lot of candy out. I may not need to buy candy for a long while.
Lori
Love to read about all those deals
Shelise Lowe
That picture makes me want chocolate. YUM, I love halloween candy….. or any candy really. I usually buy around the $1.50 price point too.
Susan Kosten
I try to look for around that price too!
Allyson Burton
Thanks for all the advice on getting cheap candy!! Are Costco prices usually good?
Marissa
This was very helpful! Definitely needed to plan something for the trick-or-treaters. Thanks!
Jill A
Good reminder to keep those early candy coupons. Thanks!
Julie S
Just watch out for gigantic bags that are a mix of candy — sometimes there are tiny candies to boost the numbers, like individual starbursts, etc.
Kristi
I usually buy the bags at Costco unless I can find a great deal elsewhere.
Austin Smead
I seem to find the best deals at walgreens! They have in store coupons that you can use with manufactuers coupons!
Angela H
Thanks for your input. I never know how much I should be paying for this stuff. Any suggestions on price points are great and I trust your judgement. We’ll be stocking up during sales for treats for our Cub Scouts. 🙂
Staci
I haven’t read everyone’s comments, but I like to buy the big bags at Sam’s or Costco. There are usually at least 100 pieces of fun-size candy bars in the bag and I’ve never paid more than $10. That makes it about 10 cents per piece, so I keep that in mind when I compare prices on smaller bags at other stores.
Jeni
I have passed out other things besides candy. A favorite around here are the glow ropes or glow bracelets. I usually get cheap candy posted on here and then also have the option that instead of candy they can pick a glow rope or bracelet. I would say the majority of the kids pick the glow item over candy. I guess they get enough candy that the glow in the dark toys are fun. They are inexpensive too.
Viola
As always, I appreciate your advice
Ginger
Compare the candy labeled with Halloween packaging with the regular packaging of the same candy. I usually find the regular packaging is cheaper, and even offers a better variety.
Ashley Gould
this post makes me hungry! i want candy! 🙂
Amy
This helped me out so much last year. I love knowing what a good price point is and then finding it!
Sabreena
When I buy Halloween candy for trick-or-treaters, I get a bag of something at the closest dollar store, or I hit my local winco & just put a handfull of a few things from their cheap bulk stuff in… but after 3 years in this house w/out trick-or-treaters, I’m seriously considering not bothering this year… we’ll see… I like Halloween so much I may buy some anyway & give it to my kids if no one shows up! 😉
Ashley
Thanks for the post. I was wondering what a good price for candy is? Any good coupon deals?
Megumi
I agree with many; winco has great prices on candies. It’s so tricky because they don’t have ads. But I found a m&ms bag for $2, used a coupon $1 off when you buy 2, so that made each bag costed 1.50! That’s not bad, right?
Heather D
All good info to know! Thanks everyone for adding your two cents.
Allie Blackham
Sometimes Amazon does great deals on candy, especially around Halloween. Watch for those!
Amanda Creo
Always match your coupons with the weekly deals & then when there’s a great deal, stock up big time!
Megan
thank you for the info, i am always wondering if something is a good deal or not
Nicole
Suckers or hard candies are best to buy at the Dollar Store, and now we can use coupons there so it’s even better! As for chocolate candies, I price match at Walmart and use coupons! The hardest part for me is not eating it before Halloween, so I usually buy the candy I know I don’t like as much! ha!
Angela
Toys r us usually has it marked down 50-75% the day of Halloween. That’s where I get it and stock up!!
Katie Anderson
Good info, I love getting candy for cheap at Walgreens with coupons and register rewards. Now it might be even better with the balance rewards too.
Traci
This doesn’t help for Halloween itself, but my favorite thing to do is hit the sales the day after. Makes for nice adult treat bags 🙂
Shelley L
Thank you so much for posting this! I’m always one of those *suckers* that pays retail prices for candy. I hope with all of this advice I’ll do better this year!
Kristi D
I was at Dollar tree and saw they has quite a selection of candy. I was thinking about going there for candy. For things like smarties or non brand name candy, is it a good deal??
Daija H.
I always dread buying Halloween candy because it’s so expensive. I’ll have to look for some good deals. Thanks!
Shauna Burton
This is great! Thanks! This year I ordered the finger flashlights from amazon you posted a couple of weeks ago. I love not having to have the extra candy in the house.
Rebecca Anderson
I uselly go for the costco bags of mix mini cholate bars , If I don’t hand out candy Iget alot of unhappy cub scouts plus I have a deal with one teenage kid that started when he was ten to not vanalize property. Halloween such a fun time of year we decorate are yard with stuff we have around the yard or make things to decorate our yard. Plus my son was born the 22 of oct. so we love to have this time of year come around to celerbrate him!
Janet
Thank you, I never know what a good price is for candy
Tabetha Elliss
That is good to know. Thanks for the teaching posts.
Shauna
Thank you! I never know.
Tracie W
I wait for sales and use coupons!
allesha
I like to get the good candy like snickers fun size. I usually get it for $2.50/bag. This year I jumped on your tip about free shipping at Oriental Trading. This year they will get spider rings and glow-in-the-dark vampire teeth!
Bobby
I like to buy mine the year before when they go on sale after Halloween. ;0)
Sara
thanks for the advice. I never know what a good price is.
Jamie
Thanks for the help! I love all the great ideas. It seems like kids really love to get toys, too instead of just candy. Do you know where to get cheap little toys (like vampire teeth or something)?
Teresa Scott
Halloween is my favorite holiday . So great prices on candy is a plus. Thanks again for sharing .
MyKeshea
I usually buy candy after Halloween is over, then I save that candy until the next Halloween. I also do a lot of price matching at Wal-mart and I’ve been able to score FULL SIZE candy bars for as low as .09 each and as high as .30 each.
Emily
Great post, thanks!
kaylin spencer
I usually wait til last minute and buy whats on sale… cant have it sitting around my house very long :0)
Kim
I always love it when you tell us what good prices are for items.
michelle
I tried to pair deals with coupon for major savings
Sarah
Wow, lots of great tips! I’ve never had to buy candy for trick-or-treaters before, but I just moved to a new area, so I’m excited to see what happens this year. I usually buy “holiday candy” after the holiday has passed and have gotten it for super cheap (quite a few times for free or even a money maker!) when I’ve been able to pair it with a coupon. Watch out, though, because I’ve found that quite a few candy coupons expire the day of the holiday, so you won’t be able to use them on the big clearance afterwards.
Marla
I try to buy in bulk.
