What Are Good Prices for Halloween Candy??

Last year, I wrote a post helping all of you to know what a good price on Halloween Candy was.. here is a portion of it for everyone who wasn’t a F2D reader last year:

Halloween Candy is expensive!  Every year  I notice people purchasing Candy at unbelievable prices.  But, when I think back to what I paid before I knew about coupons and finding deals, I was probably like that too!

First of all, let me say that everyone is completely different.  You may think my price point is too high, or too low for you- all depending on your lifestyle and your time.  And that is totally ok!  I just thought I would share my thoughts on it, in case any of you are interested.

In my humble opinion, any small Fun Size Bag of Candy around the $1.50 mark  or lower is Killer!  You will see them advertised for so much more than that.  But expect crazy deals to be popping up all over… especially with your coupons!

  9. I am looking forward to seeing these deals– my kids’ birthdays are in November and I am also having a baby (insane…) so I decided to have a Halloween themed party last week in October. What kid does not like more candy? Haha! So anyway, it will be nice to stock up on treats for the actual day and for the party. Thanks 🙂
And thanks in advance to helpful commenters!

  10. Always keep your candy coupons with you. You never know where you will find a good deal. Also, remember most candy freezes really well. I like to buy it after Halloween and then use it later in the year!

Walgreens usually has some good deals so keep your eyes pealed.

    • Why buy Halloween candy at all if you are going to freeze it? Just go trick or treating and set it aside for next year!

  41. I don’t know if it’s the cheap way of doing it but I just buy a bag or two whenever I am out at my local stores and they are running good deals. Of course with teenagers in my house, they sometimes break into it early but I don’t mind once in a while. By the time Halloween comes around I always have plenty and a wide variety of kinds so I can give each kid somethig they like. 🙂

  71. Those dollar store shoppers might want to double check what they are getting. The bags are usually smaller than what you’ll find elsewhere and when added up you might not be getting as good a deal as something that is 1.50. But I totally agree about buying something I don’t care for too much, that way I don’t eat it all myself!

  118. I agree that Walgreens has pretty good prices when you pair it with a coupon. Just be careful because sometimes the bags are smaller than the ones you get at WalMart. Also, I usually buy right after Halloween for Christmas stockings. My husband loves snickers and I love butterfinger and M&M’s, so I buy bags for a dollar right after and save them for Christmas. This last year, I also bought plain miniature Hershey bars and put it in my cold storage to have for S’mores this summer. It worked great! I always hate that stores try to sell you 6 packs of Hershey’s bars for $3.99 during the summer…talk about a ripoff!

In an old neighborhood of mine I found myself buying a lot of candy, and having way too much left over. So if you don’t get many trick or treaters, a couple of cheap wal mart bags will probably suffice, but if you get a bunch Costco all the way!

But even then, I don’t know that I’m getting it down under $1.50 for a fun size bag. BUT I score big on xmas. After the kids get back from hitting the neighborhood, I check the candy. After the kids go to bed, I raid the candy, setting aside a good chunk of non-holiday specific candy. This gets turned into their Christmas Stocking candy, and candy that we use during the xmas season for special cookies/treats, etc. Works perfect every year!

  172. I like buying the day after halloween!

  173. I used to wonder whether it was a better deal to use the coupons (usually you have to buy 2-3 bags) rather than buying the larger mixed bags (which are usually cheaper per piece of candy). I found last year, that it was still slightly cheaper to buy several smaller bags with the coupon. I bought at Target, but will consider the other suggestions here for this year. I like the idea of little toys rather than candy.

    Reply
  194. I just bought a bunch of boxes of of the mini fruit roll ups when they were on sale. $1 for 18 is a way better deal than candy bars and they are just as big so the kids like them. I will mix those with fruit snacks, pretzels, and some regular candy and let the kids have their pick.

This is also a good one if you’re not going to be home but still want to leave a treat. A big bag of suckers is super-cheap and because of the cute presentation they may not feel like it was a chintzy treat! 😉

  215. I like going to the store the day of Halloween to buy my candy for 2 reasons. First I don’t have to fight temptation to eat it if it’s not hid in my cupboard for me to sneek into. Second, the prices are usually dropped to atleast 50% off.

  251. I haven’t read everyone’s comments, but I like to buy the big bags at Sam’s or Costco. There are usually at least 100 pieces of fun-size candy bars in the bag and I’ve never paid more than $10. That makes it about 10 cents per piece, so I keep that in mind when I compare prices on smaller bags at other stores.

  252. I have passed out other things besides candy. A favorite around here are the glow ropes or glow bracelets. I usually get cheap candy posted on here and then also have the option that instead of candy they can pick a glow rope or bracelet. I would say the majority of the kids pick the glow item over candy. I guess they get enough candy that the glow in the dark toys are fun. They are inexpensive too.

  259. I agree with many; winco has great prices on candies. It’s so tricky because they don’t have ads. But I found a m&ms bag for $2, used a coupon $1 off when you buy 2, so that made each bag costed 1.50! That’s not bad, right?

I usually buy “holiday candy” after the holiday has passed and have gotten it for super cheap (quite a few times for free or even a money maker!) when I’ve been able to pair it with a coupon. Watch out, though, because I’ve found that quite a few candy coupons expire the day of the holiday, so you won’t be able to use them on the big clearance afterwards.
