I know a lot of people have heard about Bountiful Baskets and like it.  But the reason I never personally got into Bountiful Baskets was because they never told you what you were getting before you showed up to pick up your produce. And I never wanted to end up with items that our family wouldn’t eat because it would just waste money. (I know a lot of you like Bountiful Baskets, so definitely go with whichever company works for you.  Just wanted you to all know about another awesome option.)

A couple weeks ago on the radio, I heard about a new company called UtahBaskets.com. Each Friday, they list exactly what is going to be in their baskets for the upcoming week.  That way, you know exactly what to prepare for, and what you will get.  And, if there are items that your family doesn’t eat, you will know not to purchase that particular basket for the week.

So, I decided to be the guinea pig and test it out for all of us. I just have to say that I now LOVE these guys!  The produce was amazing quality and has lasted forever.  So, you know it is super fresh.  Not to mention that I saved so much money purchasing fruits and vegetables through Utah Baskets instead of purchasing them at a Grocery Store.

  • Each week, you have Friday- Monday to purchase your Utah Basket online.
  • Pickup for the Baskets will be at a designated time and location the following Friday.
  • Baskets cost $20.

Currently, pickup locations are in:

SALT LAKE CITY – DOWNTOWN
SALT LAKE CITY – EAST SIDE

If you guys try it out, let us know what you think too!

    • You can go to their website and see exactly what is coming for the week.

  2. I have been doing Jumbo Joe’s for a while now and we LOVE them! The quality is awesome! I highly recommend them! We also use the Granato Company to buy all our bulk produce for our community produce co-op – they are a great company to work with!

  3. I think this is great for people who don’t want to take the time to price match at Wal-Mart, but I did a quick calculation just on what I could price match at Wal-Mart (If you live with in 30 miles of a Buy Low or Rancho market it Utah-their produce prices are insane…25 cents for avocados regularly!! And Wal-mart WILL price match that!). For example I can price match nectarines and grapes at $1.49 a pound this week, and I did that with each item with the prices I know I can get this week and I come out to about $13 for the fruit basket, which runs $20 on their site. So it’s a nice no brainer if you just need some produce, but it’s not the BEST deal you can get.

    • Be careful… several of the Walmarts around me have stopped matching Rancho and Viva Market pricing. Has definitely put a damper on getting those great deals and is kind of embarassing when you have 6 lb of limes or other item and go to check out (with people behind you of course) and are told they won’t use the price match.

      • I was told once by a misinformed employee that they won’t price match Buy Low, but my friend and I spoke to a manager and said that employee was misinformed. I think it’s ridiculous if your store won’t price match certain competitors: Wal-mart who has the largest buying power in the US, is going to be outdone by some local mom and pop competition? I would bring up this point to your local Wal-mart and maybe enough of you can get them to change their mind. Now, I understand it if the store you are trying to match is 50 miles away, but I’ve been told anything within 30 miles is considered a local competitor and they will match it. (I shop at the Riverton Wal-mart BTW) Good luck.

    • I find that hard to believe when you can’t price match pre-cooked produce such as potatoes or stir fry mix. Walmart will never match in quality compared to Jumbo Joes. You get what you pay for! It is top quality for such a good price ! I would recommend this deal for everyone. I love the variety!

    • Also though, the quality of produce at Walmart is inferior…. seriously. I have spent alot of money over the years on items that I get home and they are moldy or dried out of whatever… no flavor. I have been driving out of my way for produce from Sunflower Market or Winco because they are SO much better than Walmarts. And my husband used to work in produce at Walmart, so he knows how old the produce really is. I will have to check into this basket thing.

  4. that is great! I’m starting bountiful baskets tomorrow is my first pick up but if that doesn’t work, I’ll give this one a try

    • Ummm… If this was your first bountiful basket today, I’de say give it another week or so if you weren’t impressed this week. I’ve been getting bountiful baskets for over two years and this was by far the most disappointing week. Ever. Usually we get two times the amount of veggies. The fruit wasn’t bad, but the oranges were kind of a letdown in the flavor department, at least mine were.

  5. I love the fact that you know what you are going to get before ordering, but the price is way more than what you pay with Bountiful Baskets for what you get. Almost everything they had listed you would get with bountiful baskets size wise for 19.50 your first time ordering and 16.50 there after. If Utahbasket.com were to lower their prices to 15.00 then I would be very tempted to order through them instead.

    • The price could be more because the produce is already boxed and you don’t volunteer.

  6. I started a co-op at my house and I use a company called quality produce. They are awesome. I have been doing it about a year and I started it because I got frustrated getting the more strange stuff like kale and figs. I stick with basics, my basket is free and I get to choose. It’s win win. And when they get awesome buys, they share the love..we got blackberrys today for 1.12 for the 12 oz containers (that’s twice the size of the normal containers.). I also price match Rancho markets for things like grapes and limes, etc….I looked into using granatos and they were more expensive.

  7. That’s great that there are more options like this! I’ve been a Bountiful Basket participant for over a year. I love getting surprised. It’s like Christmas. LOL It’s also made me (and my family) try things that I never would have otherwise, like brussels sprouts, which is now one of our favorite vegetables. But I understand that doesn’t work for everyone, so it’s terrific that options are expanding.

  8. I have tried Bountiful Baskets and I have tried Jumbo Joe’s Produce Baskets. Jumbo Joe’s was wonderful and delicious and definitely worth it. The produce lasted so much longer with Jumbo Joe’s than BB. I like that not everything is ripe right when you get it…. (my family can’t eat all of that in one day). Also, I know that Jumbo Joe’s can track their produce to the farms; whereas, BB is leftovers and is handled by many different trucks, people, hands, etc. I love Jumbo Joe’s and their produce!

  9. I’ve been using BB for several years now, and decided to look at the Jumbo Joe’s to see if it was a better deal. What a rip off! If they added what was offered in the Mixed Basket and the Fruit Basket for the $20 then it would be worth it, otherwise I can buy what they are offering in either basket for around $10-12 locally. Why would you pay more and get less? At least BB gives you MUCH more than what you are actually paying out. I’m sticking with BB.

  10. I have done bountiful baskets a few times and have liked it pretty well. I don’t know if many in the Idaho/Utah area know about the Ridley’s deal with the $10 bags they are doing once or twice a month? They have around 12 fruits and vegetables to choose from and you get to fill your bag from those 12 items for $10. I have loved that I get to choose what you want in your bag. For instance, sometimes I will just fill the entire bag with apples. I have gotten over 20 lbs, so a little less than 50 cents a pound. This week, I put in 4 2lb bags of baby carrots, 3 lbs of red potatoes, two green peppers, 3 roma tomatoes, 3 yellow squash, and 3 zuchuni. I weighed this bag and it was 21 lbs. I have felt like it is a pretty good deal depending on the choices for the week.

    • How do you find out more about this Ridley’s deal? I checked their website and didn’t see anything.

      • It is on their ad for the week, but it ends tonight! If you sign up for their weekly emails, their ad always comes along with coupons (normally you can get a free item with a 10-20 dollar purchase with these.) Where I shop, in Hyrum, they put most of the produce included in the deal at the front of the store with the bags so it’s easy to find. Also, you can check their facebook page and they’ll give you a heads up about their double coupon days (usually once on month for those not in Utah county) and when they will be having their bag sales. Hope that helps!

  11. I picked up produce today and the service and produce is AWESOME! The employee was so nice and carried it to my car. Less hassle than bountiful baskets and I like knowing what I can purchase.
