Update: Thanks to a bunch of awesome readers who have called, it looks like you can’t use this along with Discovery Gateway and Clark Planetarium since they aren’t 90 miles away from Thanksgiving point. HOWEVER, this is still an AMAZING deal just for the Thanksgiving Point Pass alone!
Wow, I don’t ever think I have seen this good of a discount for a Thanksgiving Point Membership before.
Today, June 7th, Groupon is offering a Thanksgiving Point Family Membership for only $135! (Currently, this costs $175 on the TP Website.)
If you don’t want a year membership, they have a few other discounted options for things like a Flex-pass and even a one-day pass. In any case, it will save you more money than purchasing elsewhere. So definitnely look into it.
In case you didn’t know, Thanksgiving Point is part of the ASTC Program- basically that means that your membership will get you into hundreds of other museums for FREE- as long as they are 90 miles away from Thanksgiving Point. So if you go out of town, you can check the list of other fun places to go for FREE! You can enter in the state and see how it all works here.
This is what the TP Website says about it: Thanksgiving Point is a member of the Association of Science – Technology Centers. Members of ASTC affiliated organizations who live beyond a 90-mile radius from Thanksgiving Point and who have their active member card from their home organization, are able to get free admission for two adults and minor children living at the same address.

Be aware that the ASTC membership, if purchased through Thanksgiving Point, will NOT allow you to visit the Clark Planetarium & Discovery Gateway for free. I just purchased the Discovery Gateway membership and this is what it says about the ASTC enrollment: “ASTC Travel Passports are only valid outside a 90-mile radius from your actual residence or from Discovery Gateway (if purchased here). For more information about ASTC, or to see a list of participating institutions, visit http://www.discovery.org.”

Hey thanks so much for the post. Have you tried to Use your TGP pass at the other two locations? I just want to make sure this has worked out for someone before I get it, it would be a shame to find out there is some crazy loop hole that says you cant get into gateway and the planetarium? Thanks for all your hard work! Love F2D check it every day and get stuff in the mail almost everyday from free samples!
Melissa
I just called Discovery Gateway and it DOES NOT work with the Thanksgiving Point pass. They said the museum and your home needs to be at least 90 miles from the location that you purchased the pass from. Dang! That would have been awesome! Still a pretty good deal for Thanksgiving Point though…
Danielle
On the groupon website it says the pass will expire on Oct 26th 2012. Doesn’t sound like a year membership, do you know if that applies to the annual pass or the other coupons?
Melea Johnson
The flex pass is the one that expires Oct 26th. The Membership is an entire year.

thanks

I called the planetarium and they said that it is to close it’s only like 30 miles away.

Yes, according to this page ASTC Passport Program is only good for locations farther away from your home (like Melissa said, 90 miles). But, if you are going to be buying the pass anyway and will be traveling this summer, you can check here and see if there are any participating science centers at your destination that would accept your TP membership.

https://www.astc.org/members/pdf/PassPub05_12.pdf If you read this page it details everything. This pass would only work for ANY museum or science center 90 mile or more away. So, since most of these are within 30 miles…..it would only work for Thanksgiving Pointe! Bummer……

Just fyi, you also get two free tickets to the Utah Symphony concert in the gardens on July 6th if you buy a family pass this month. I don’t know if you can still get it on top of this deal, but it might be worth looking into. I’m sure that concert is amazing.

This is UN clear. If a person who is an ASTC member who lives in Florida vacationing in Utah, do they have to choose between TP or other museum in Utah only one?
No it is supposed to be a 90. Distance from the home to the venue.

link has all the info. Centers who 90 miles of each other are excluded. That is sad.

Bah! That figures. I just bought a TP year membership last week for full price. I did feel like I got an ok deal though because I got a free day camp registration with it, which is normally $35. So I ended up paying $140 for the pass.
A years pass is completely worth it. My kids LOVE TP. It’s got several different things to do and best of all you get your guests in for half price, so it makes for a fun and cheap play date even if your friends dont have a pass. There are also lots of special activities at the venues that are included with your pass like Museum Mondays at the dino museum.
We have used ours with the ASTC membership at OMSI in Portland, OR and the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, CA where our families live. That saved us a lot of money on those trips since museums can be really pricey. As you can see, I definitely recommend buying this deal if you live near TP!

But, if I was out of state I could use my family pass to access a museum there?

YEP!

I haven’t ever purchased the family pass before, but since you posted this great deal, I decided to finally do it! I’m going to give it to my husband for Father’s Day (SHHH… don’t tell! 😉 ) I went through eBates and got a few more dollars back from my purchase from them too! 😀 YAY! Thanks for posting this great deal!
