Changes to the CVS and Rite Aid Coupon Policies!

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

Looks like CVS and Rite Aid have both made changes to their Coupon Policies.  If you shop at either of these stores, you will want to make sure you have printed out the new policy and have it on you for your next shopping trip.

CVS Coupon Policy: They have added changes to their Buy 1, Get 1 Free Coupon Policy- GOOD CHANGES!! You can now use two coupons on a BOGO sale.  One of each item you are purchasing.  In some cases, this will help you to actually get two items for free.  So, in the couponing world, this is huge!  You can read and print out the NEW CVS Coupon Policy here.

Rite Aid Coupon Policy: Rite Aid is now limited the benefits and savings of their Loyalty Card Program to ONE per household. You won’t be able to roll your +Up Rewards from one transaction to the next.  You will have to wait until the next day.  So, for many of us who don’t have a Rite Aid near by, this is going to be an issue and will probably keep a lot of us from shopping there.
**Right now, these changes look to ONLY be in Utah as a test market.  They always use our state because of how many couponers we have.  So, stores outside of Utah may not have made those changes yet.  (These changes have not been added to the Official Rite Aid Coupon Policy since they have not permanently spread to all stores.)

What do you guys think of the changes??

(Thanks Couponaholic and One Cheap Chick)

  1. Another thing you might want to notate is that the +UP rewards will no longer print on the receipt either. They now get loaded onto your wellness card. You manage them online. I see HUGE problems for shoppers and Rite Aid with these changes!

    • I work at a Rite Aid and the ups are still printing on the receipt. One customer went to load her coupons on her Wellness card and “clipped” what she wanted, but didn’t find a button to load them on. So, we really don’t know if they are working on the card yet or not.

      • I just shopped a store in SLC yesterday and it loaded my ups to my card. It printed on the receipt what I had, but this is a lot of extra work for me to track what I have. Plus, it isn’t clear if they have to come off in the amount I received them or if they just total. I see big problems for me in deciding which ups I want to use on which transaction.

  2. This new change will make a huge difference for me. It is way out of my way to go to rite aid and if i have to make mult. trips to keep my oop expense down, it won’t be saving me any money. I will no longer shop there and will take my business to other drug stores that I can do everything i want to do for the week in one trip. Thats too bad, because i really love rite aid.

  3. I haven’t tried Rite Aid yet, because I try to learn just one store’s policy at a time. I’ve been thinking about adding Rite Aid to a store that I would go to, but NO NOW… it would be too hard to not save all the money at once.

  4. They just are doing everything they can to get rid of couponers slowly but surely. And slowly and surely I have stopped going there because of this.

  5. Funny how some stores are welcoming couponers and some are pushing them away… I consistently stop at Rite Aid for little things since I have my 20% for the year. Rite is the closet and most convenient store to me but if they decided to change their policies yet again I will have to find a new fav! Funny when I first started couponing I hated Walmart but with this price match thing I am really starting to love it, now if they would double coupons where I live they would get all my business!

  6. I noticed that it is the stores that struggle (i.e. the smaller chains, dirtier stores, etc) that go against the couponers….wonder how long until they go out of business? CVS is growing and doing well and is 100% coupon friendly and Rite Aid is making it worse and they are struggling…their stores around me are dirty and disgusting.

    • The rite aid stores around here are dirty and gross too

      • All the stores I’ve been in are clean (and I’ve been in a lot in both UT and SLC Counties). Friendliness and customer service has differed for me by store and knowing which stores allow pre-pay, substitutes, or prefer rain-checks has always been a hassle for me to learn. I really don’t get why stores are upset with couponers. They get the money back from Manufacturers plus a handling fee.

  7. This is not just happening in Utah. Rite Aids here in Ohio have gone to the no longer allowing you use Up rewards in the same day a few months ago. Ever since they stopped allowing the use of two coupons on a BOGO sale, I slowed down shopping there, now I never shop there. Don’t they realize they are losing customers?

  8. Rite Aid isn’t close enough for me to justify the gas money to go there more than once a week. So I won’t be buying anything there anymore, unless I happen to already be in the area. I have really liked Rite Aid and am disappointed about this change. Last week the cashier in my store gave me a “heads up” about +Up Rewards changing, but she didn’t know when. I didn’t make my usual Monday trip there this week, and don’t plan to do so in the future.

  9. I live in Washington and this policy change is in effect here as well.

  10. I am okay with using the up reward the next day, only because I have several within a few miles of my house. However, what is more upsetting to me is the fact that they are adding my up rewards to my card. I like having the up rewards in hand so I know what I have and I keep track of my expiration dates. I always have them with me and I know what I have. Now, I am going to have keep going to the website to first make sure the rewards were applied and if they weren’t then what? (involves going back to the store to fix problem or time on a phone) and second, now I am going to have to use the computer to keep track which doesn’t help me when I am not at home. I hope they rethink this or allow us to choose how we want our rewards to come to us. It sure seems like couponing is getting harder and harder and rules are changing so much that I can’t seem to keep up.

  11. I don’t so much mind the next day use of Up Rewards (though it can be a hassle). I DO mind not being able to roll the rewards. This was the main difference for me between Rite Aid UP rewards and Walgreens Register Rewards. I almost feel like their ads are misleading since they show the final price as if you automatically get the rewards. I just hope they don’t also ad an obnoxious policy like Walgreens does that when using the rewards you can only have as many total rewards + coupons as you have items to purchase. I’m pretty much fed up with both of these stores and will not generally buy things there.

    • I have always thought the ads misleading when they do that, but I’ve noticed they don’t really compute the would be price any more.

  13. I noticed the change when I shopped at Rite Aid this week, but didn’t check my UP Rewards online until I saw this post. I am missing some of the UP Rewards that are printed on my receipt as having been “loaded to my card”. I called the customer service # and after more than 10 minutes on hold (I timed it) I had someone tell me that, conveniently, the Wellness department’s phone system in down. She took my name and number and promised a call back when the phones have been fixed. SERIOUSLY?! I really love Rite Aid and the deals I get there, but this is going to ruin that!

  14. Unfortunately I won’t be shopping there any more because of this. I am couponing to save money (not pay extra for gas making multiple trips) and since the only thing that made Rite Aid worthwhile was the fact you could roll ups. They took away the 5 off 20 and 5 off 25 and 3 off 15 and now they are preventing rolling up rewards. I am a full time mom which to some people may not seem like its time consuming but for those of you who do have your hands full, it is NOT at all convenient to make multiple trips just to use your ups at Rite Aid. For me I have to drive pretty far to get to Rite Aid. I am not a Walgreens fanatic but I am more inclined to shop there now because (there is one around every corner by my house) the fact that you can use your register rewards the same day. It’s still annoying there but it’s better than going next day. I have absolutely no idea what Rite Aid was thinking.

  15. When I heard about the new policy at the store, I told my cashier that I bet a lot of people would be unhappy and he said they have been getting a lot of good feedback. I can see how not printing +Ups on you receipt could be helpful (you don’t have to keep track of them and it prints your balance on your receipt so you can just put that in your binder the way you used to keep your +Ups). But having to wait to use your +Ups is really annoying! I live 1 minute from Rite Aid and Walgreens and I have no kids and I still don’t want to have to go there multiple times a week! I’m starting to like Walgreens more and more and I’ll probably stop shopping at Rite Aid unless there is a killer deal!

  16. I have made a few feeble attempts at up rewards, but it has never really worked out. It seems like if I don’t get there right when the store opens, all the good stuff has been cleared. Now I don’t have to feel guilty for not adding Rite Aid to my coupon route.

  17. I find that I will be utilizing CVS more and more for coup0n deals vs Rite Aid. I live out in the boonies, but am willing to drive a little further to know I can utilize my rewards that same day.
