I know this is a little off topic. But, Moms can definitely help each other out right? 😉

Yesterday, I announced that our family is expecting Baby #2! Obviously we are excited… I’m just not excited about the neverending morning sickness.

So far, I have tried Zofran and Fennigren- both of which didn’t even make a dent. I also tried Ginger pills which worked for awhile, but feel like maybe my body is used to them. I am now trying Drammamine… which works some days and some days it doesn’t- but it also makes me super drowsy.

So, in an attempt to find SOMETHING that will work, or atleast help, Do any of the Moms out there have any Pregnancy Sickness Tips?? Anything you did that worked for you??

I would appreciate all the help or advice you have!! I’m willing to try just about anything at this point.

  1. Congrats! Unfortunately I have no sickness tips, but just wanted to congratulate you. I hope you start feeling better soon. Thanks for all you do for us!!

  2. Zofran only worked for me if it was in the dissolvable form, so if you’re taking a pill, try the other one. Also, I know moms like to be healthy and all for pregnancy, but coke helped me sooo much with my last pregnancy. Even if it’s just one day a week in order to get your household chores done and feel good for a short time. DO IT!

  3. Did you try the orally disintegrating Zofran? The pills do nothing, but the 8mg dissolving ones are miracle workers for me.

  4. Try pepermint tea it soothes the tummy.

    • Ginger helped with my first, but I was so glad when I was pregnant with my second that I was a coupon shopper and had LOTS of mint gum. It helped a ton. The worst was that my mouth and teeth got tired of chewing 😉 so maybe the oil is the way to go??

  5. I just had a baby in September, so those symptoms are still fresh on the mind. Personally I do a lot of homepathic remiedies so that’s the advice I have to share.
Orange Oil will help calm the nausia. Peppermint oil is suppossed to help as well, for me, it just made it worse. Try both and see what may work better for you. I would keep the bottle by me all day and take a smell everytime I was feeling quesy. I’d also rub a little bit under my nose to help.
Raspberry leaf tea is a great help during pregnancy as well. Helps control the hormone headaches, keep heartburn away, and gives you great vitamins.
Hopefully you find that these help you.

    • I second the Orange essential oil. I have a friend that would do the same thing, just take a whiff when she was feeling sick, and it seemed to help her quite a bit. You can get a bottle of orange essential oil at your health food store for less than $10 and it should last your whole pregnancy. Just make sure you are getting a good oil, nothing synthetic. Or you can get it online for really cheap. Try butterflyexpress dot net. They have it for $4.25.

  6. Some of the things that worked for me was taking my prenatal vitamin at night before i went to bed for that day instead of doing it during the day. It made me sick if I didnt. I also found that if i ate breakfast right when i got up in the morning it helped me get through my day better instead of waiting a couple of hours. Also i just snacked all day long instead of eating big meals so that way i always kept something in my stomach. The last thing that my doctor told me and i have to say that i never actually did use it was B6 and unisom together. Just beware that unisom will make you sleepy but supposedly the 2 of those together helps with morning sickness. Good luck hope that helps.

    • Yes! Take your prenatal at night! That did the trick for me as well! Great tip!

    • I took half a blue unisom and vitamin B6. Seemed to be the only thing that gave me just a tiny bit of relief. I feel for you. I threw up and was sick the whole 9 months with each of my 3 pregnancies 🙁

      Reply
      • I also took my prenatal pill at night, which helped. And I found eating right away in the morning (like before I even got out of bed) helped a lot. Otherwise I would get sick pretty easily. Also I just found and ate the foods that didn’t bother my stomach as much (lots and lots of Cheerios!) Congrats and good luck!

      • Unisom saved me during my three pregnancies. If I took it, I would only throw up a few times each day. One day I skipped it and I threw up 17 times. I was sick all nine months also. It makes you tired at first but you build up a tolerance very quickly.

        Reply
        • Ohmigod! THIS makes me not want to have a child! Even throwing up a few times a day is too much! I think I would kill myself if I threw up 17 times in a day!

      • YES!!!! 1/2 a UNIMSOM AND A VIT B6- MIRACLE!!! And i wasn’t even drowsy…you can take either morning or night, both were effective for me!!! Seriously, saved my life!!

        Reply
        • I never took the B6, but I did take the Unison before bed each night- totally worked! I would not take it one day just to see if my morning sickness was gone yet- DUMB idea! LoL I would very much so suggest trying this- even the equate version workes! Good luck and congrats!!!

          Reply
      • I did that too, seemed to help a little. Ginger ale is good, if you can stand it. Just try to snack all the live-long day. The hardest part is not getting full, but not letting your stomach get too empty. Good luck! I also used sea-bands on my first pregnancy, they are for motion sickness, they helped a little, but I would take what I could get to offer some relief.

      • The half tab of unisom and 1 tab of vitamin B6 at night before I went to bed helped. The thing about zofran is you really need to take it on a schedule. so if the dr said take 1 tab every 6 hours take it every 6 hours as close as you can and if you start feeling better, don’t stop!! That means the medicine is working. The 1 bad part about that med is it causes constipation so make sure you take miralax or something like that. Snacking throughout the day should help and to eat something, anything as soon as you get up. Make sure you stay hydrated!! I was pregnant with my first baby in 2010 & I literally thought I was dying, I had a pic line in and had to do IV’s at home twice a day and take medicine both through my iv and orally, it was terrible! Hope you get feeling better soon!!

    • I agree with the timing of the Prenatal. ALSO for my second baby (of 3) I just bought over-the-counter Prenatal vitamins. there is NO DIFFERENCE in what the baby is getting from the perscription. The only difference is that it DOESN”T make you sick. I seriously just bought Kroger brand pre-nates for my second and third. My second baby (she’s 5) is smart as a whip and on track to skip Kindergarden adn she started walking at 5 months!

  7. Lemonade and whole wheat eggos toasted but plain was the only thing I could eat for three months. The crystal light lemonade has the flavor but not as much sugar. I also used the Flinstone complete chewable vitamin (my doc said I could take two)- it was easier to chew then swallow. I was given the dissolvable zofran and it sometimes helped – but i think the lemonde helped more.

  8. I was sick the whole 9 months so I know how you feel.
My doctor recommended for me to go to motherhood maternity and try their “PREGGIE POPS” they come in sucker and hard candy form. I would just pop one right in when I felt sickness coming on and bam was gone.
    here’s a link https://maternity.motherhood.com/search?w=pops&go1.x=0&go1.y=0

Also it’s been a few years but my doctor gave me a pill that I took every morning with breakfast, can’t remember the name but it was an extra dose of vitamin E and it helped but didn’t curve all the nauseousness.

  9. I tried 1/2 pill of unisom at night. This helped me tremendously. I could really tell a difference of when I took it and when I forgot to take it. Taking during the day made me drousy, but taking at night helped me sleep great. And then I woke up not sick at all. Good luck!

  10. Half of a Unisom tablet along with vitamin B6. This combination was suggested by my Dr. and it worked worders on my sickness.

  11. I had severe all day sickness with my first. The only thing that worked was 1/2 a unisom and vitamin B before bed. I also took the prenatal at the same time so I could sleep off the sickness from it. Keep crackers and a bottle of water by your bed. Eat a few and take a few very small sips of water when you wake up and wait about 5 minutes after before you let you feet touch the floor. If that doesn’t help, just remember it usually gets better by the 4th month. Hang in there!

    • I second stacy’s advice. This worked so well for me. you can also check into food based vitamins. they are much more expensive, but everyone I’ve talked to says they are so worth it. I can’t find a link, but If I do I’ll come back and post it. Good luck!

  12. Oh I am so sorry that you are sick. My Dr. is inducing me tomorrow, and I have thrown up every day of this pregnancy. My Dr. gave me the offbrand of Zofran. I would wake up about an hour before I needed to and take the pill and go back to sleep. Then when I did wake up, the medicine was working (as much as it ever would) and I wouldn’t be as sick.

Hope you get feeling better and congratulations!!

  13. I am so sorry you are going through this. All day all night sickness sucks. I get it really really bad… I would say try the zofran again. Not every pregnancy is the same. I know for some zofran will work with one pregnancy and not for another. I would also say try a higher dose on a very strict schedule of 3 to 4 hrs.. Also very gross but try suppositories, If you can’t keep anything down it will at least get into your system. I don’t believe the dis solvable zofran’s work better because it’s still going to your stomach if you can’t keep a pill down dis solvable isn’t probably going to stay down either. I also have to agree with the pre natals right before you go to sleep. Something I am going to try to be better at is getting iv fluids when things get really bad. Good Luck!

  14. First of all, CONGRATS to you & your family!!! 🙂 My husband & I are also pregnant with our 2nd – due June 11th! I second the Red Raspberry Leaf (RRL). I found some morning sickness relief drinking Traditional Medicinals Organic Pregnancy Tea. It contains RRL. It also helps tone the uterus for delivery! So it’s just a great, caffine free tea to drink throughout your entire pregnancy. Wishing you a healthy & happy pregnancy! 🙂

  15. I am expecting as well right now and I take 1/2 pill of unisom every night with my vitamin. It helps me at night (when I feel the worst) to go to sleep easier, and in the morning I feel great until about lunch time. From about lunch time until bedtime I don’t feel great and I could take unisom (my dr. said up to 1/2 tablet 3 times a day), but I am worried about being too tired. Unisom and Vitamin B6 is supposed to help with the nausea and it seems to help out a lot at night. Good luck and hopefully the sickness passes soon, it’s no fun.

  16. Never had morning sickness but I have gotten sick after all my knee surgeries (have had many) and SALTINES were my best friend…

  17. Sorry you are sick. That is the worst. The only suggestion I have that hasn’t been mentioned (unless I missed it) was to suggest the “Preggie Pops.” They sell them at Babies R Us usually near the check-out, and several sites online have them as well. They had flavors ranging from ginger to lavendar to fruit or peppermint. Whatever you can stand. I found I couldn’t eat when I first got up, anything made me gag. But if I sucked on the preggie pops while I slowly got up, it helped calm the queasiness enough to make it to breakfast.

  18. I found that if I got at least ten hours of sleep each night, I would be just fine the next day! 8 hours, and I was throwing up all morning. Also, like the other comments mentioned, taking my prenatal right before bed.

  19. In addition to the above suggestions, remember that the B12 in your prenatal (if you’re taking one) can cause nausea. Maybe see if you can get a lower dose so you can spread it out through the day. Also, as suggested above, B6 can be helpful. Classic herbal remedies are ginger and possibly peppermint (smooth muscle relaxer, more typically for stomach pain). And always have something in your stomach! Crackers, whatever. Good luck!

  20. I changed my prenatal vitamins and started taking them at night and that helped a ton! Also if I kept little snacks like almonds and saltines with me and munched on them every couple of hours that helped too. I also kept them at my bed and would eat some before I even got out of bed. They also have these things called sea bands that most people wear when they go on a cruise to not get sea sick but it really helps while pregnant too. They just push on your pressure points so no drugs or chemicals at all. I’m sure you’ve also heard of preggie pops. You can get those at Motherhood Maternity or Babies R Us and they sometimes help as well. Congrats on your pregnancy and hopefully your morning sickness will go away soon!

    • I second the Sea Bands. I am 13 weeks with baby #2 and I was sick the entire pregnancy with our son. I only gained 11 pounds. I have tried everything anyone has ever mentioned to me. I do all the normal morning sickness tips and I am sick all day every day. This pregnancy I take the dissolving Zofran tablets. I also wear my Sea Bands all the time except in the shower. I notice a huge difference in the twenty minutes or so I’m showering. I also sip Peppermint herbal tea, it helps some. I tried Ginger tea, but I hate all things ginger, except ginger dressing from Japanese steakhouses. I actually sent my husband to our local favorite one last week to purchase a pint of the dressing. It soothed my stomach a lot. I’m sure you’ve learned what makes it worse, for me it is onions and cabbage. When I’m really feeling yucky but I know I have to eat something or it going to get bad I drink a fruit smoothie. With our first we lived near a Jamba Juice, now we are back in the midwest and they don’t have them. I settle for the wildberry smoothies from McDonalds. Also I sometimes get relief if I get a 20 oz Coke slushie at Speedway. Good luck.

  22. Congrats!!! My family and I get super sick, to the point of hospitalization, IV’s and feeding tubes into the arm. The only thing that seems to help is half of an Unisom sleep tab before bed, my Dr. also reccomends taking a B vitamin with it. Don’t get me wrong I still felt sick, but I didn’t vomit all day. I took it through both of my pregnancies the whole nine months. I tried to stop talking it, but the days I didn’t I was sick all day. I hope you start to feel better!

  23. A health lady told me it was because I lacked a certian vitamin or mineral in my diet and told me to eat Spinach or collard greens. I got those lollipops you can get from the pharmacy those worked for a while and any thing mint, or mint gum.

  27. When I was pregnant I was so sick and I took dramamine and it worked like a charm. Maybe since you said it is kind of helping, you could try the non drowsy kind? My dr said that dramamine was safe when pregnant but I don’t know if the non drowsy kind has caffeine or anything so you should probably check that first 🙂

  28. I am due very soon and lost 20 lbs. my first trimester being sick! I do have a few tips that did help when it seemed like NOTHING WOULD!!

*Gummie prenatal vitamins from Walmart instead of those awful, giant horse-pills!
    *Sip Coca-Cola
*NUX Vomica–Homeopathic remedy: you put 2 pellets (tiny, tasteless) in a water bottle and sip it when you’re nauseas. You can buy it from GoodEarth or any nutrition store.
*Eat something before you climb out of bed–I snacked on dry lucky charms before I even sat up.

    Good luck!

  29. Coke, peppermint candies (the red & white), and alcohol wipes worked for me. The last one does sound strange, however when I was in the hospital for surgery during my pregnancy, the medication they gave me made me super nauseous and the nurse opened the package of one of those wipes and told me to breathe in a few times. Boy did it help! She gave me a handful to take home and I used them when I was especially nauseous.

  31. A friend recently gave me some pills called “Nox Vomica” that she got at a health and nutrition store. They are made by the company “Hyland” that makes the dissolvable baby teething tablets. You put them under your tongue, and they definitely helped me! Good luck!

  32. I just got out of the morning sickness phase so this is all too familiar to me. Unfortunately, I never found a cure completely, but I did find that eating little bits throughout the day helped me. I would eat almonds, crackers/cheese, fritos (weird, but the chips really seemed to settle okay). I also would eat baked potatoes and bland foods, bagels with cream cheese and toast with peanut butter were some staples. I also tried preggie pops which helped with the yucky taste I had in my mouth and ginger tea too. I tried the 1/2 unisom/B6 combo and it worked okay, but I still felt yucky and groggy. I also tried Zofran and that didn’t seem to help much either. It does get better in time, but it is horrible…so sorry you are in this stage right now. I hope you can find some relief soon.

    Reply
    • I also tried the unisom and B6 as well as Zofran. They helped some with both of my pregnancies. I also found that I had to eat something every two hours otherwise it was a lot worse. I usually ate whatever I felt like or could manage to quickly find and make but typically it was grains and dairy products, in other words things really similar to what trieste listed above. Green apples with peanut butter also seemed to help me.

  33. Unisom really helped me as well. Half a tablet before bed. I woke up feeling a tiny bit drowsy, but at least the nausea was gone! And this is a little out of the norm, but I have constant nausea from some medicine I’m taking for rheumatoid arthritis, and for some reason Tramadol really helps the nausea. It’s pain medicine (acts a little like a narcotic, but it’s not). It helps to take the edge off the nausea. I’m not sure if it’s something your doctor would be comfortable prescribing, but it might be worth asking about.

  34. Seven horrible pregnancies and I also tried everything you have. Nothing ever cured, but doing tons of little things would help which is better than nothing. 1-Eat all day long! I kept a bowl out of whatever dry cereal or cracker I could stand at the time and munch on it all day. 2- Get more sleep. If I went to bed much earlier and also took a nap, my days went better. 3- half unisom and 50 mg B-6 twice a day. 4-fresh smells and things to suck on, whatever works, and it constantly changed throughout pregnancy. Sometimes sucking or smelling peppermint, sometimes sour suckies, or the preggie pop things. When it stops working, I move on to the next thing. These weird little things helped me not throw up.https://www.amazon.com/Morning-Sickness-Soothers-Peppermint-Scented/dp/B0047D7YKK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326217612&sr=8-1

Last thing, make sure you aren’t constipated… you might not even realize it, but it made me feel much worse. I did a ton of powder benefiber and it helped me. GOOD LUCK! I lost my last two pregnancies at 17 weeks, and I can’t help but say you are so lucky. It is so awful to be sick, but it is so worth it. Stay positive and try hard to remember what a blessing and miracle it is. It won’t last forever.

  36. I love that everyone is willing to give advice. Obviously do whatever you feel comfortable with and only continue to do things that work for you! But, I always had crackers (soda, club, Ritz, etc.) everywhere I was (next to my bed, in my desk, in my purse, etc.). I would eat a cracker long before I got sick or hungry. So as soon as I woke up in the morning, before I got out of bed, I would eat a cracker. My Dr. told me that if I ate like a Diabetic, it would help immensly. So I tried to eat something every 1-2 hours, even if it was just crackers that I could keep down. Also, eating small portions and snacking all day helped.

Just like you, I went the anti-nasea medication route. Zofran only took the edge off, so something else that my Dr. told me, helped. Aside from getting a prescribed Vitamin B or the B that’s in the Prenatals, he said that Propel was also another safe form of Vitamin B. You better believe that I always had a Propel (or Propel packet that I could add to water) everywhere possible. The packets are awesome because you can keep a bunch in your purse or car and just add them to water when needed. I think I even shook a little under my tongue one time because I didn’t have water and it actually helped.

One more thing, if your Prenatal vitamin makes you nauseous, SWITCH! I found that Citracal was the best for me. 🙂

GOOD LUCK MY DEAR, I’ll say a little prayer that the morning sickness ends soon and that it doesn’t last as long as my 2nd (6 months)!

  37. Oh, and I second the mint. Sucking on a mint candy cane helped a bit!

  38. It’s always amazing to me that Zofran doesn’t always help pregnant women, because it’s kind of the ‘big guns’. I mean, it’s the same stuff they give chemo patients for their nausea (only in higher dosages).
2 remedies you didn’t mention that worked for me – Ginger Ale, the Canada Dry stuff helped as long as it wasn’t relaly bad, just a constant nausea, if that makes sense. Also, a mint tea. I hate mint, but it actually can really help, especially with a tender tummy.

  39. Try seasick bands!! You wear them on your wrist like a bracelet and it pushes on your pressure point and relieves the sickness. They’re not super stylish but they work and then you don’t have to be taking some sort of drug. They are really cheap too!

  40. I learned during my pregnancy (18 weeks along) that Ginger pills dont work but ginger candy does. Because the ginger flavor on your tongue stimulates the ingredient that calms your stomach. Try ginger tea or candy, its not the best tasting but it works so well!! Good luck!!

  45. Nothing really worked for me but I can give you some suggestions that I tried that other people had suggested.
Breathing into a paper bag, sea bands, ginger (try a ginger tea or other form rather than just the pills), unisom/vitamin B6, taking prenatals at night instead of in the morning, lemon drops, prego pops. I read a couple of the other commenters say that the zofran in dissolvable form worked better and it did for me too because I could actually keep it down, I’m also not a soda drinker but when I’m pregnant I drink a (warm) sprite in the morning because it settled my stomach more than most things. You might be like me though, I pretty much just laid on the ground all day every day because I was so sick and just had to let my toddler play around me.

  46. Ahhh, so sorry! That’s the worst! Motion sickness acupressure bands helped me — you can get them at most grocery stores or pharmacies. Unisom works, but makes you drowsy, too. And one thing that really helped me, but sounds weird, was fresh lemons. Just slice a lemon and take a deep whiff of the scent — don’t know why, but it helps!! Hope you feel better soon!

  48. I am deathly sick while pregnant. Usually I lose about 20 lbs from hugging the porcelain bus for 28 + weeks. My last baby (#4) my doctor suggested that I try Meclizine (a chewable travel sickness medication). It is over the counter ($5.0o for 100 tablets) at the pharmacy and it finally made me stop throwing up. I tried everything before that… phenergan, fun suppositories, Zofran, ginger, peppermint teas, you name it I tried it to stop the madness. Meclizine finally made me feel better. Ask your doctor first, but this was heaven sent for me! Hope you feel better soon. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone!

    Congrats on the baby!

  49. That’s terrible. I have struggled with morning/day/night sickness with all 3 of my kids and this sounds pretty weird, but it was by far the best with my 3rd because first thing in the morning I was in a hardcore 90-min workout class w/ a trainer. I would eat some protein on the way in the car and it really alleviated the sickness. Although it’s the last thing I wanted to do most days, I would feel so much better and hardly threw up at all. Give it a try–it’ll help you be healthier anyway, so you have nothing to lose!

  50. I lived on Cola slurpees!!! I also liked coke syrup on ice (buy at the pharmacy), tonic water with a squeeze of fresh lime, a plain slice of bread or crackers at the first sign of nausea, small bites of 100% natural applesauce. A priesthood blessing almost daily! And an hourly reminder that in a few months I would have a beautiful baby vs. others with lifelong illnesses that will never go away.

  51. You can try sipping Gatorade… or try eating peppermint things (like York Peppermint Patties). This is a trick I learned from a friend going through chemo and they helped me a bit during my pregnancy until the thought of either one made me feel sick. (These might have already been mentioned, but there were too many comments to read through them all.) I hope you get feeling better soon… morning sickness is the worst thing EVER in my opinion! 54. The one thing that helped me at least start the day was, even before getting out of bed my husband would cut a lemon and truly just smelling the lemon and the freshness helped. Also I would eat a piece of toast or a banana while still in bed. The only other thing that took the edge off was pressing hard on the pressure point between the thumb and index finger. I was sick all day long not just mornings and I lost 20 lbs only gained 7 and my daughter was 4lbs 10oz. Yuck I sure hope you find something to help. I started couponing with my daughter, literally yesterday. She is 13 and a half and we cut the coupons we use or needed and she wanted to then organize them in order by date and last night we went through the ones we definitely wanted to use this wk. and even some we wanted to give to a couple of friends we know could use a hand up. We added up how much we are going to save just through March 31 coupons that we got yesterday alone and she was so excited because it was $70.85. She told me I can’t go shopping for the first time with our coupons without taking her. I suggested she figure some way to make this a 10 hr personal progress project. So if you have any ideas how she could do this let me know. Again feel better soon and thanks for all your hard work.

I took my prenatal vitamins at night before bed and ate only very bland foods on days I was sick. Lots of cheerios, oatmeal, breads, jello and popsicles to stay hydrated.
    On a brighter note congratulations!

  56. I am a Labor and Delivery nurse and so I have heard just about everything including some things that aren’t proper to post on the internet or admit to other people!! But I’ll agree with everything else that has been posted. The only meds that should work are the Zofran and Phenergan and I am surprised that they don’t at least help, although they didn’t with my pregnancies either. Take the prenatal at night or not at all, many people take a childrens Flintsone vitamin and the doctors and midwives say thats ok. I tried it all, the ginger, sprite, crackers, red raspberry tea, popsicles, coke, peppermint, one that I haven’t seen mention are the fireballs, those really hot cinnamony things that last forever, nothing helped and sometimes nothing does. I am so sorry that you are feeling like this because I experienced it too and threw up everyday till I delivered. It got better and only lasted in the morning till I was about 26 wks which is no consolation to you. But they say for most women it should end around 16 wks so good luck to you. The thing that helped most was sleep. If you aren’t awake you dont realize how miserable you are. best of luck to you!!!

  57. Oddly enough, morning sickness usually comes from dehydration and blood sugar spikes. So drink lots of water and start your morning out with a protein rich food and not a ton of carbs or sugar. I have found that by eating string cheese or an egg or cottage cheese in the morning and drinking a lot of water, I can lick the morning sickness. Good luck!!
    Remember water, water, water!!

    • I agree! If you’re not surviving (which I can relate to) then you may want to talk to your doctor about IV fluids (especially if drinking is really hard). They usually helped me feel a little better and while I was in the clinic and feeling ok I would try to eat a turkey sandwich or something with protein. You can also get your vitamins intravenously which might be a help. If you can keep any kind of protein down that can help you feel a little less yucky. I’m really sorry you don’t feel well. As hard as it is physically I found that psychologically it was almost harder. Try to just take one minute at a time and learn to say no–and be ok with it. Best wishes!

So excited for you! I have the “extreme” morning sickness. Hyperemesis. Basically, throwing up 50 times a day (literally). There is no secret for me. Just know that it’s going to come. The Zofran is the miracle drug. The secret with it – is you have to have it in your system on a regular schedule. You have to take it before you feel sick- or in my case, every 4 hours. I took it about 15 minutes before I was supposed to so that it was in my system on the hour. The dissolving tabs are miraculous but have a yucky taste and just warning, if you throw them up, you will never get that taste out of your mouth. Phenergan didn’t do much for me.. I still had to throw up but I was too loopty loo to figure out where the bathroom was. I would stick with the Zofran but be really vigilant about it! Good Luck! 🙂

It did not get rid of my symptoms entirely but it lessened the severity that I did not have to take medication. The brand is Yogi (found in health stores) and they have one just for pregnancy and breastfeeding. You can drink it several times a day. Maybe combined with something else will help. Side note, I hate flavored water so I made my tea with hot apple cider. Good Luck!

I am trying to find something for me, i have not tried the Zoferen becasue we dont have insurance, but somethign that has helped is eating either toast with Jam or honey cheerios (dry) while i lay in bed till and stay there for like 15 min and then lemon drops have worked on and off and IBC rootbeer. 🙂 This is the hardest part I think of being pregnant!!

  70. Congrats on the new baby! I, too, suffered horrible “morning” sickness and threw up all day long even after trying zofran, other prescriptions, morning sickness magic pills, unisom, etc. I threw up so often that my throat was bleeding! There were only two things that did seem to settle my stomach somewhat–one was eating a baked potato with just a little bit of butter on it. I think that helped absorb some of the acid in my stomach. The other was to take Mylanta (even though it tasted HORRIBLE and I didn’t feel like I had heartburn). It really helped to take the sour feeling out of my stomach, at least for a brief period of time. Anyway, good luck and hang in there!

  75. Vitamin B6. I like to get it at Trader Joe’s, because it comes in little tiny pills. I can take 4 to 6 at a time, every few hours. It’s like a B6 I.V. drip. I can feel the sickness rising when it leaves my body and I need more. I’m totally an addict during morning sickness. Good luck.

  76. Protein! I found that if I had some protein first thing in the morning it made a huge difference. For me it usually ended up being an egg (boiled, fried, whatever) and sometimes some breakfast meat. But even if I had one boiled egg I didn’t have to deal with the nausea.
We’ve got someone in our office that’s also expecting and she swears by the mint remedy also.

  83. First off, Congrats!! After having 5 kids and being extremly sick with all of them, the best things I found to do is 1st cut out almost all sugar especially chocolate (I know it’s hard but it’s for a short time and helps a ton). Then Protein first thing in the morning and I’m talking before you lift your head off the pillow. It worked to have a small piece of chicken or string cheese. Then let that settle for 10-15 min before getting up. Then just try to keep something on your stomach all day. I found I couldn’t drink water but I could drink milk because it was easier on me. I wish you the best and hope it gets better soon!

  88. I felt like morning sickness was controlled by my diet. People always say that when you are pregnant and breastfeeding you need more calcium. That is true, but I feel like morning sickness is a way for your body to tell you that you aren’t getting enough of some essential vitamin or food group. I bulked up on spinach for Magnesium and Folic Acid, which seemed to completely get rid of my morning sickness as well as made my muscles feel stronger and got rid of the leg cramps. Additional Calcium and protein was also very helpful. I just didn’t take any magic pills. Just ate healthy. Here are my favorites – Spinach, patatoes, pumpkin seeds, eggs, chicken, red meat, lots of milk. Not to mention I was down to my pre-birth weight three weeks after pregnancy.

Choking down a saltine was hard but with orange juice it helped. Peppermints helped and when I did throw up it wasn’t terrible tasting. I will spare your sensitive stomach the yummy foods that turned terrible when making a reappearence! Eating a little bit all day helped me as well! If my stomach was empty I felt worse. Good luck!

  90. I have seven children, and the best tip I can give you is to never let yourself get hungry. NEVER. That doesn’t mean you need to start eating more, but that you need to have healthy snacks to nibble on available all the time. At mealtime, eat really small portions. Pair foods that are more prone to causing nausea with something that will soak it up. For example, eat some raw veggies and dip alongside a few wheat thins. Pair a half a bagel with cream cheese with grapefruit. Also, it is great to keep hydrated, but do it in many small sips, rather than a glass all at once.

Water helps me a lot right now. You can get more nauseous if you are dehydrated at all. Cold water is better than anything I could imagine right now, a glass of water takes the edge of the nausea for a short time.
Ginger in oil form works if your body isn’t responding to the pills. Just rub it on your wrists and/or tummy. Or a few drops of both Ginger and Orange oil in the bathtub seems helpful too.

Nothing worked for me, no seabands, preggie pops, meds…nothing. But, it took me until number 2 to figure out how my body responds. I am also a big believer in the sleep….if you can get 10 hours, great….but let’s be real. For me, in the morning, I am sick NO MATTER WHAT. So, I have taken to waking up and spitting out my spit and getting out whatever acid is in my stomach from the night before. (This is better for me that having my breakfast come up) Vitamins at night, protein if you can stomach it, small little snacks all day long, and GOOD MENTAL THOUGHTS. Sometimes it is hard, especially when you pass 18 weeks and are still sick when you had hoped it would be gone. Try and stay positive and get help if you can. I am amazed you are even posting, but maybe it is a distraction for you. 🙂 Anyway, mostly I am writing to say thank you because at most it helps to know when other women go through it too.

  111. My 3rd child is now 5 1/2 months. Each pregnancy my morning sickness was different and responded to different things. I am lactose intolerant, but for some reason, cheese seemed to calm my stomach- probably because it helped neutralize the acid. Baked potatoes helped with my first a lot. With my 2nd, I had to get an IV and found out I had small gallstones. My chiropractor told me to take B6 and drink raw apple juice. I wasn’t able to get the raw in the middle of winter, but did buy some natural apple juice and sometimes settled for cheap concentrate, but it really helped with both my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies. I had gallbladder problems with both that cleared up within hours of delivery and I found that the days I forgot to drink some apple juice and take a B6, I had more heartburn, etc. I found that I could handle name brand saltines, but when I ate some store brand saltines, I threw up immediately. I also found that lem0n-lime soda helped (I only like soda in a glass with ice), however the Kroger brand soda I got from Smith’s tasted nasty and made me nauseous. I never tried any drugs, because I try to avoid any kind of drugs when I’m pregnant. I use a heating pad for headaches, back aches, etc., but this doesn’t work for everyone. I never tried the Seabands, because I was watching our budget. With my first I couldn’t handle noodles, salads, or anything with acids like tomato stuff and I sucked on hard candies like jolly ranchers and drank Gatorade (which eventually quit helping and made me nauseous. However, with my 3rd I wanted nothing to do with sugar and craved fruits and veggies. I couldn’t handle chocolate or mint with any of them. I rarely took my prenatals because they usually made me nauseous. I tried the Flintstones and they were worse than my prenatals.Really it all came down to trial and error and a lot of patience with each pregnancy. Congratulations and I will pray that you get relief soon.

Try to set your alarm for an hour or so before you actually have to be up and eat (preferably the granola or something of more substance) and when you actually get up an hour later it won’t be so bad. Your sugar levels have to stay maintained and when you are already a mom to one and want to not go over the 25lb gain, you sometimes don’t snack and eat little bits throughtout the day. If you eat supper and then try to go all night without consuming something it messes you up. You may be sleeping….but lots of major growing going on inside! 🙂

  126. Again, thanks for posting this. I put something on facebook, but just in case…..I am pregnant with number 7 and totally feel your pain. Sick, sick, sick all the time. I would love to hear some more ideas. I am usually sick the whole time and this time around especially not much has helped. But these are the things that help sporatically:

-Unisome at night with B6 or B12
    -Preggie Drops – https://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=preggie%20pops&origkw=preggie+pops&f=Taxonomy/TRUS/2255957&sr=1
-Motion Eaze – https://www.amazon.com/MotionEaze-MotionEaze5ml-Motioneaze-Fluid-Ounce/dp/B0000AXZV5 – I have also found it at Walmart a little cheaper, but if you are like me at this point I can’t stand to go to the store. One bottle will last forever.
    – A banana in the morning – although it is hard to gag down, something about the potassium makes a bit of a difference.
-Lots of liquids. I have been getting terrible hormone headaches that make the nausea worse, but if I’m hydrated it’s better.
-I don’t take Zofran as it gives me a terrible headache and doesn’t really cut the nausea. But if it doesn’t give you a headache I have heard that if you take it consistently, that might help.

Sorry to hear it is so bad. I know sometimes I just have to take each moment at a time. Hopefully it gets better over time. Congratulations. Sometimes the only thing that gets me though is knowing that this too shall pass and I will have a glorious blessing out of the misery. Hang in there. You’re doing a great job with your website!

  131. I get super sick during my pregnancies as well. I have a nutrition/healthy recipe website that I put a bunch of tips for battling that pregnancy nausea on. You can check it out on:

  132. No prescriptions worked for me. I took a B6 vitamin and a unisom (sleeping pill). The vitamin canceled out the drowsiness part of the sleeping pill and it was the ONLY thing that would take the edge off.

  133. I noticed lots of ladies recommended the vit B6 pill. I was pregnant 20 yrs ago and lost alot of weight in my first trimester. My doc gave me B6 injections since I couldn’t even keep a pill down and that seemed to help alot. I don’t know if they still do it or not but it’s worth asking your dr about. Congrats and good luck

  135. A word of caution never eat eggs and potatoes together. Produces a reaction in your stomach that will make it uset.

  136. You have so many comments on this, maybe mine won’t help. I think you can get zofran in a cream that you rub on your wrists (I’m trying to remember if it was zofran! Ask your dr/midwife). It works well for some people. Or C-bands, which you put on your wrists. Snacking on carbs continually helps some people. Don’t take your vitamins on an empty stomach, or don’t take them at all for a while; research is inconclusive about whether or not they help the baby, and they do cause nausea. I’ve heard some people like prego-pops that you can buy in a lot of baby stores. Ginger and peppermint essential oils do help a lot of people, but the mechanism they work by is that they calm the stomach. If your nausea is caused by hormones that won’t necessarily help. Good luck!

  137. I also tried a million things. One of the easiest that sometimes worked was potato chips and lemonade. The research shows that the salty and sour eases the saliva production which can contribute to the “morning sickness” (oh that it were just morning). Good luck and congatulations.

  139. I ate a crisp apple sliced really thin as soon as I woke up. It was really the only thing that helped, and I also did Zofran and Unisom with B6, and neither of those work. The Zofran that dissolved on my tongue made me even more sick because of the flavor, so if I even smelled it, it made me throw up. I also drank one Coke throughout the day. I think that everyone’s body is different, and every pregnancy is different, so I hope maybe one of these tips will help, and you can find what will help you. Another tip from me would be to take it really easy in the morning, have your little girl come snuggle with you and bring books to you to read with her, or watch TV, don’t jump out of bed and get going fast, that is what really made me sick.

  140. Ive had extreme nausea with both of my pregnancies. With my 1st pregnancy I had it all 7 months (my twins came early). With my 2nd my midwife suggested at about 12 weeks that I try going on a diabetic diet and after doing that for a few days my nausea was completely gone!! If I wavered from the diet at all I would start feeling so sick. I guess that for a lot of women pregnancy messes with your blood sugar. I did ended up with actual Gestational diabetes at 26 weeks, but my midwife did say that this diet had helped a lot of women who weren’t ever diagnosed. Just an idea. Peppermint was the only other thing that gave me any relief.

  142. I had hyper emesis(constant 9 month long “morning” sickness) and I was so bad I was hospitalized for the first 3 months due to loosing 14 lbs from constant sickness. Hydration was the biggest key to me getting better…. Drink tons of water, and milk after smalls meals helped to keep those horrible after tastes at bay. Your hormones make food sit in your stomach longer during pregnancy so you should relax longer after a meal. You should also grab sea bands from the drug store, pressure points really work!

  144. I never comment on anything, but I feel your pain, and hope that you can find something that works. So here is my two cents, for what it’s worth. I was so sick with my last pregnancy (lost 30 pounds in 8 weeks – too bad I couldn’t keep it off ha ha) I couldn’t eat or drink and threw up constantly and nothing worked. After a pic line, hospitaliazation, TPN, and $12,000 worth of meds. (thank heavens for insurance!) my OB sent me to a gastrointologist who put me on steriods – it didn’t work for me, but it did work for others. I don’t know how sick you are, but for me, as a LAST RESORT, the doctors decided to take my gall bladder out (woke up during surgery – but that’s another story). I don’t know if that was the key or if my body was adjusting to pregnancy, but I was able to start keeping food down about 2-3 days after the surgery. I did continue to have nausea until the day after delivery – but at least the last four months of pregnancy I was able to function. I hope you find something that works for you!

  145. Red raspberry leaves in pill form worked best for me. It made everything more mild and I really knew it was working when I forgot to take them for severa days and my morning sickness came back with a vengeance.

My girlfriend said the motion sickness bracelets helped a ton.

Good luck and hang in there.

  146. 1/2 a unisom and 1 tablet of vitamin B-6. Also, try to sip water throughout the day. I also really liked bagels and cream cheese during this time to help keep my stomach full.
