Kmart and Sears Closing 120 Stores???

I just learned on MSN Money that Kmart and Sears are closing 120 stores.  I guess they are struggling pretty bad financially.

Not sure which ones will be going quite yet.  But if you have either in your area, you might want to be watching to see if your store is one of the closing ones.  If things don’t even out for Sears, they will be closing even more stores soon after.

I have to admit, I don’t shop at either of those stores. Kmart’s prices are too high for me.. even with their double coupon promotions.  (Which by the way, have never gone the way they say it will when I have tried.)  And, Sears is just too far away for me to personally shop at.  What about all of you?? Do you guys shop at either of these stores?

  1. I don’t shop at either of those stores either. For just the same reasons as you. I have tried to shop Sears online and always get frustrated at their website. So now I don’t even check there when I am looking for something.

  2. No, I can’t stand either one. I had a horrible experience at Kmart with coupons where they claimed that they were all counterfeit. When I asked to talk to the manager he was really rude and treated me like I was a criminal. I will never shop there ever! I hope they turn the Draper Kmart into a Target!!

    • The draper Kmart is the worst, and would not be surprised if they go out of business . I have never had a good shopping experience there .

  3. My Mom shops at Sears for pants for my 5 little brothers because if they wear out before they grow out of that size Sears will give you a new pair! Awesome!! 🙂

  4. Kmart is just too far away, but I really don’t like Sears. Ordered an ipod online last year for my daughter and it was a horrible experience. They kept telling us it would get here, even though we couldn’t track our item, and then what would you know. Christmas Eve we were out shopping for one anyway because it never came. Sad they are closing for those that love them. Less competition between stores is never a good thing.

  5. I actually got some killer deals at both stores for my x-mas shopping this year! Deals that they had in their ads around Black Friday, one was a 2-pack of cameras from Sears that was my favorite gift for myself this year!!!

  6. Sears is great for tools for the hubby. Especially with their warranty! Other than that though, we really don’t shop at Sears. I NEVER go to Kmart for the same reasons…price too high, coupon problems, etc. Hubby will be really sad to see Sears go though.

  8. I like both Sears and Kmart. It’s going to be really really sad when our only shopping options become cheap Walmart junk made in China….

  9. The Kmart by our house (Layton) is just well trashy. It is dirty and I hate going in there. I much prefer the nice clean atmophere of Wal-Mart or Target. I am not saying all stores are clean, but the ones here in Layton, the T and WM bet out Kmart any day of the week. My hubby does love Sears for the tools but I won’t be sad to see Kmart go out. I did back in college work for them and not too impressed…

  10. I do because I get 5% cash back with my sears card and if you watch their weekly ads they have some good coupons. Plus the monthly coupons get you free stuff and their half off the clearance toys are great. I have pivked up hotwheels tracks for 98 cents in the past. Plus with my shop your way rewards I get like 50.00 free every year and some killer coupons print at the register, but yes their food is expensive. I have written corporate a few times about changing their priced to compete, and all I have gotten back was we’ll work on that.

  11. As a general rule I don’t, but I did get a few really good deals there this year. I did however learn a valuable lesson – all Kmarts are not created equal! 🙂 When I do shop there it is at the Draper location (which I am guessing will close because it is always empty). I bought some things there this year that I needed to exchange for other sizes and went to several stores to find what I needed. The other stores ranged from kind of dirty and yucky to downright smelly!

All that being said, I was able to buy 2 beautiful Christmas dresses for my daughters (toddlers) for a total of 19.50 and 4 piece suit sets for my boys (8,6) for a total of $30. And I think they looked pretty stinkin cute! 🙂 I lucked in to B1G1 1/2 off sales that stacked on top of other sales.

I will be a little sad, but not surprised if the Draper Kmart store closes – it just isn’t ever busy. As far as Sears, I NEVER shop there…it is just too far to warrant it and I have always thought it was too pricey. Why drive past 30 stores where I could get similar things way cheaper?

  12. I’m almost positive the Sears by me in Long Island, NY is closing. They took over the building that Bloomingdales used to occupy (they went to the mall) and it has been so dismal there that our company leased parking space from them until construction was completed for over 1500 employees for almost a year!

  13. I would definitely be sad if our Kmart and/or Sears close. I shop at Sears for all my appliances and my husband loves the tools at Sears. We got some awesome deals this year at both stores for our Christmas shopping.

  14. Never shop at either. I agree about the high prices at Kmart. For whoever said that we’ll be left with cheap stuff from China, look around, nearly every big box store has the cheap stuff from China. Not saying it’s a good thing, but it’s just a fact of life with the cheap labor these big corporations can get overseas. I don’t shop at Walmart either. Not a fan of their policies.

  15. We always shop at sears. My mother in law used to work for them and shops there all the time. Kmart I personally have never loved and have shopped there a couple times. We actually already lost one Kmart. Hope our Sears stays!

  17. I’ve shopped there a couple times for double coupons (usually had to go to customer service after they didn’t work out quite right to get everything settled). I will be going if my store in Logan closes so I can score some good clearance deals! And I’d LOVE it if the store in Logan turned into a Target!

  18. I used to buy all my applinences at sears but last time I called a a sears repair man to fix my washerthe fist time it broke they took it aprt and left it that way for 2 weeks before they came back and fixed it and the secound time i called them it started working again so when he called to confirm I told him he didnt need to come but he insisted anyway he walked through my garege into my basement looked at my washer for 2 seounds and yep its fine walked out to his truck and called the police and told them my house was filthy and they called social services. my washer is in unfinished basement he didnt see any of the part we live in and he made up a bunch of stuff and because of him I had to let social services walk through my entire house inspecting it and even look through my fridge. I will never shop at sears again. I called sears to tell them how mad I was and they acted like they didn’t care so I will shop elswhere. by the way it turned out my house was prefectly clean.

  19. I don’t shop at either of those stores anymore either. Kmart is too expensive and I am banding sears bc their stuff is crap. A few yrs ago I bought all of my kitchen appliances from there and have had nothing but problems with them. My stove has a spider web in the window bc it was not sealed well enough. Can’t get it out and they won’t do anything about it. So it looks dirty all the time now. So frustrating.

  20. Have a Sears outlet close to where I live, but Kmart and a regular Sears is not quite at my back door. I have heard that Sears continue to pay their employees when they are called to active duty. Can’t confirm. If they do that would be one reason for me to go out of my way. Did like it when anything needs to close.

  23. I don’t usually go to Sears, but do love K-Mart for my kids clothes They have really good sales for the kids clothes-I got some jeans for my daughter for Christmas for $7 or $8 on Friday (50% off) and they’re cute with designs! Their clearance prices beat Wal-Mart. I don’t like Wal-Mart because it’s about 5 miles away, and everyone has the same clothes. And their customer service stinks (at least at my store). Target’s too far too drive (I rarely go there, even though I love it). ShopKo is much more expensive for me! So, it’s usually K-Mart. There is a really nice lady that works at the Provo store, who always makes it a great experience-her name is Drenda. The only employee at any store whose name I actually know, because she is so nice! The Prove store is always helpful to do exchanges without receipts, or call other stores if you’re looking for something. I love their customer service!
