Facebook Privacy and Free Stuff

I thought I would re-post this as a reminder to all of you to remove applications from companies, after you request your free product.

Many of you have asked about Facebook Privacy when requesting freebies on the Facebook site.  Sometimes you won’t run into any issues.  But for the bigger brands, you have to accept the “terms” of their app.  This can sometimes mean that they have access to your wall, your friend’s information and other information about you from your Facebook account. Which in my opinion, is not cool!

So what can you do if you really want to get the coupon, freebie or free sample from Facebook??  Accept the App to get what you want, then go and remove the app from your Facebook account.

Here is how to remove an application:

  • Click on “account”
  • Then, click on “privacy settings”
  • Scroll down to the bottom and look on the left hand side for “edit your settings” (under applications and Websites)
  • Click on “edit settings”
  • Then you can remove by clicking the “x” next to the app

You can do this for every app you have ever allowed on your Facebook account and for all future ones as well!

  11. I have a separate facebook account with very minimal info about me and a nick name rather than my real name. That way I can get the coupons and not feel violated!

  12. I just create a coupon only account on a different email and don’t add any personal information that way I still get the coupons and don’t have to worry about my information!

  17. Thanks for the reminder. I was planning on doing that. I am planning on having a separate facebook account attached to my separate email acct I use for coupons. I hate all the extra spam on my facebook page but do like to know what is going on.
