I am pretty meticulous when it comes to using my coupons. I don’t usually make mistakes because I can’t stand it when I do. Because who wants to spend money that they should have saved? Not me!
Well, last night I went over to Walgreens to grab a few of their awesome deals like the FREE Right Guard Body Wash and FREE Irish Spring Deodorant. Oh, and of course I had to grab the Walgreens Premium Diapers at only $2.49 a Jumbo Pack!
The most important thing you should be do while you are coupon shopping is to verify you have ALL of your coupons out for each product you are purchasing. I added additional Right Guard Body Washes to my cart and forgot to grab the two corresponding coupons out of my binder. Now, if I would have followed the rule of checking your coupons before you checkout, I would have found the mistake and not missed out on saved money. But I got distracted and it threw me for a loop. (I always get distracted by some unadvertised deal…LOL)
So, for all of you who have been couponing for awhile, or are just starting. PLEASE don’t make the same mistake I did. It was a beginner’s mistake that I shoudn’t have made and have been kicking myself for it all morning. Remember to always double check your coupons before you checkout to make sure you have one for each item in your cart! Hopefully my mistake can help you guys to not make it too!

I have done this a few times and was VERY suprised when I said something to the store, they told me I could use the coupons after the fact. You need to take in the reciept and the coupons and they will just give you the cash back. I have done this at Smith’s and Target so far, so I’m not sure if you can do it everywhere???
Amber
I agree with what Jen said. One time at Target I went to pay and I couldn’t find my coupons. Get to the car and there they are. I went back in and they gave me cash back for the coupons. AWESOME!!!

I went and saved alot at my walgreens, but they were telling me im not supposed to use coupons with bogofree when they have it bogofree, but i have all this time…. any thought on this, the cashier lady was so flustered in the first place with all of my coupons, for some reason had them all over the counter, i wasnt sure if she was getting them all đź™ she then got manager, who said i couldnt use one of the cpns that were bogo free for olay because they had it bogofree, it wasnt. Anyway i have to look into the walgreens rules, just had this happen at kroger last wk on the bogofree keebler cookies i had a cpn of .55 off 2, she said i had to buy 3 to use the cpn

I just read somewhere that like Rite Aid, Walgreens will take a BOGO free coupon when their sale is BOGO free to make both items free! I didn’t know that so now I do. Just take the policy with you and she also said get ready to call the 1-800 # if they still give you problems.
Melea Johnson
Wendy- Don’t forget to take you coupon policy with you. It states that you can use a BOGO coupon on a BOGO item. So, show that to the cashier and manager if you have problems. The coupon policy is pretty new so they may not be as familiar with it. Stand up for your coupons and don’t let them get you down! 🙂
Jeni
Same thing happened to me at Rite Aid – except I just plain forgot to give them coupons that I had put in my coat pocket. They were so nice about it they just rang my coupons up and gave me the money after the fact. 🙂 It still is embarrassing.
Mary
I’ve done that before it’s frustrating!
Question: I went to a bazillion walgreens last night and none of them knew what I was talking about when I asked about the infant care coupons. I found a coupon booklet for March that had all kinds of coupons in it and that had a walgreens diaper coupon but it was for 1.00 off and it was for a different size than what the sale was. I’m not in Utah, so do these deals change from state to state? I just hate seeing a deal posted here and then take a lot of time to go find it only to find out that it doesn’t work out here.
Melea Johnson
Mary- No they are everywhere. In fact, my cashier just had a copy of it up at the desk and scanned it for me. You may want to call around and see if any of them have it. Since this deal came a few weeks ago, all of the other couponers could have taken them and the store ran out. I found mine in the pharmacy area after the cashier had no idea what I was talking about. So ask the pharmacy if they are back there.
Kristy
Okay, I’m glad that I’m not the only one that’s done that! I just wish I had thought to go and ask about bringing the coupons in after the fact! I hate that feeling!
Brandi
I made a $4.00 mistake yesterday! While scoring my great diaper deal there were a bunch of people behind me so I was trying to be quick about it and in the mean time didn’t realize that one of the RR I was using to pay for it didn’t scan at the checkout so I ended up paying $4.00 more than I should have and wasted a perfectly good RR in the process.. Grrr.. it happens to the best of us.

Glad to hear that even the PROS make mistakes 🙂
Melea Johnson
Haha… Yeah, that’s why I wanted to share with you guys. Just to let you know that everyone makes mistakes.. even people who have couponed for a long time. 🙂
Amy
I live in AZ and also had a problem finding the baby coupon book at Walgreens for the diapers. Great idea to call around, I’m going to do that! I love your site and appreciate the great deals you share!

So I tried looking for Walgreens policy about using the BOGO free coupon on the BOGO item, and all I could find was the policy that said you could use two coupons on a BOGO item, but not specifically about using a BOGO coupon as well. Could someone send me in the right direction to find it. I am thinking I will have to take a printout of it with me, I always seem to get the checkers who won’t honor things like that.
Thanks
marcus
ditto to what mandy kirk said….any input?
Melea Johnson
I guess I should have clarified for you guys. This is what the Walgreens coupon policy says:
“Buy One, Get One Free Coupons
When items are featured in a Buy One, Get One Free promotion, up to two coupons can be used against the items being purchased, as long as the net price does not go below zero for the items being purchased.”
If they will allow two coupons, one on the free item and one on the paid for item, there should be no reason why they wouldn’t take a BOGO coupon. They are getting reimbursed for that item from the manufacturer too. You may just have un-educated cashiers at that store. I know most of us have been able to use our BOGO coupons on the BOGO sales.
If you would like to have something in writing, I would email Walgreens Customer Support to have them send something like that to you. That is probably your best option!!
Debbie
Would you be able to give me the link for the coupon/sale info on the FREE Right Guard Body Wash? I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find it.
Thanks!! =)
Melea Johnson
Just click on the Walgreens button on the side bar. It will show the Walgreen’s Matchups. It is listed there.
Kimns
The newspaper coupons are $1 for deodorant and .50 for body wash. I was not able to find the coupon from the link for $1. It must be gone. How are you getting the body wash for free?? I am sad… I wanted body wash :0(
Melea Johnson
Kimns: I used the BOGO Right Guard Coupon that I wrote in the Walgreens Deal post. Since they are on sale for BOGO, then you get two free!

I also made a costly mistake yesterday. It was only $5, but still…I read somewhere about a deal you could get on Nabisco cookies/crackers(6 to 18 oz), where when pairing sale and cps you could get each box for a $1. My family loves Wheat Thins, so I was excited for this deal. I put a box in my cart and opened another for my 2 yr old to snack on while I finished shopping. (This was my first mistake.) Normally I don’t do this, but it was past lunch and he was starving. I was sure I had all my cps. (Second mistake.) I had a $1/2 manufactures cp, but realized, after several minutes of searching for the supposed $2/2 Walgreens coupon, that you had to actually buy $15 of other products to get it. I at least had the $1/2 cp to use, or did I?! The cp, although a manufacture cp said Smith’s on it so they wouldn’t take it. The manager said that they don’t get reimbursed for other store cps even if it says manufacture on it. And since you had to buy two to get the sale price, and I was obviously stuck paying for the one, I had no choice but to buy both without cps (Ugh!). It’s definetely frustrating when a deal doesn’t go as expected.

Thanks everyone for the info about the BOGO coupons. I have been hesitant to use them because I didn’t know what my final cost would be! Also to Brandi- I had a similar situation happen with me at Walgreens the other day, and the cute manager worked with me until we got it figured out. I had lost a $4 RR in a multiple transaction trip and she simply voided it out and started again. Then I missed 1 coupon and she voided and rang up my purchase again to add in the coupon. In total I think she had to ring it up 4 times to get it right, but she was so great about it! I appreciate the Walgreens employees so much because they really try to help you maximize your savings. I agree it is a bit embarrassing to spend so much time trying to save $4, but I’m on a shoestring budget and need to get the most from every dollar!
Kristy
Stopped in to Walgreen’s yesterday to roll some RR’s that were going to expire. I was quite pleased with the outcome. I’m saying that because I haven’t been shopping there as much because it seems like there’s always something that doesn’t get taken off, and I usually end up paying more than I had anticipated. But, I got one Purex Fabric Softener, 2 Right Guard Body Washes, 4 Reach Toothbrushes, and 2 nail clippers (filler items 2 for $1!!) The total came to $17.99, but with my coupons and $4 in RR, I only paid $3.50 oop and I got $6 back in RR!!
