Is it just me or does anyone else have issues using coupons for free travel size items. It seems like no matter which store (I tried at Target yesterday) that the checkers give me a hard time. I hate doing it cause I know they will either refuse to accept it (like Target yesterday) or have to call a manager over. Is it really worth it to get one free load of laundry (or a small bottle of shampoo?)

Nicole – I have had the same issues trying to use those this week (for the first time) too. WalMart said that it was 97cents, so they wouldn't take a dollar off and the manager wouldn't accept it for a trial size, even though the coupon clearly states "any size." Not sure why they can't just take 97 cents off to make it free if they don't want to do the overage?? Who has luck using these and where? 🙂 What are Nicole and I doing wrong? 🙂

Hi Melea and Nicole – I have used coupons for travel sizes at both Target and Walmart (I'm in CA) without any problems, even if the cost of the item was less than the coupon discount. The last time I did this was a few weeks ago though, so I don't know if something has changed?

SO….I alway's have problems with trial size Q's. The stores NEVER want to take them, and quite frankly it is SOOOOOO frustrating to have all the sites alway's listing all the free stuff you can get…when you can not! I am NOT new at this, and I save $1000.00 a month couponing…. yes, $1000.00, but the reality is no matter what store I'm at,no matter what manager I speak to, no matter how may times I CALL CORP,still nothing changes. Retailers feel like you are stealing from them, and that we are getting "FREE" items, when of course, though the item is free, the stores do get paid for the item with the coupon. It does get old to see the travel size freebies listed, that are just impossible to get. The reality is as our economy continues to be so bad, retailers will continue this practice.

Jennie- I am surprised you have such a difficult time with them. I rarely have a cashier even question the coupon with a trial sized item. And I shop at multiple stores too. As an experienced shopper, I'm sure you know to look for the younger boys as cashiers. For everyone else, try looking for them. For some reason, they are more generous with coupon usage. They aren't worried about not being reimbursed for a coupon, and tend to understand reimbursement procedures better. Sometimes I will even stand in a longer line to get the cashier I want. And after a while, you will know which cashiers to go to and which to stay away from… which always helps your transactions go through. I will keep posting the Trial size deals for everyone that can still get them!

Harrisville Walmart wouldn't let me use the 1.00 off tide coupon for travel size. They did let me get 6 Johnson & Johnson first aid kits for free.

I had problems at the Walmart by me with the coupons on trial size items the last time I went. I went to their site and left a comment. I had a manager call me back and tell me you are definitely able to use these coupons on trial size items as long as the coupon doesn't exclude it (which we know) so hopefully they will get this figured out. He said he had a meeting with all of the CSM's and made them sign the notes. Hopefully everyone will have better luck.
