My mom is great because of everything she did for me when I was young, and everything she continues to do for me now that I have my own kids. I just had my third child about 4 weeks ago, and my mom rearranged her hysterectomy surgery so that she could be there to help me with all the children, while my husband finishes up his finals so that he can graduate!! I would like to share a story about a sweet lady Corrinne Carlson She is my daughter. Corrinne is a single Mother of 3 small children. She takes care of them every day alone. It is not easy to watch over them day and night and make sure they are safe. She is very creative doing things that are fun and cost no money because she has little money. Corrinne make her children happy by sharing her time and letting them know they are safe and that she will never leave them. Why is my mom special…. She is the toughest woman I know. December 2008 she had a kidney transplant and after a tough year of recovery and many complications she was excited to help me with my first baby. Jack decided to come five weeks early and spent two weeks in the NICU. She had seen him after he was born as they whisked him from the resuscitation room to the NICU but my husband and I were the only two allowed to see him in the NICU my mom had to wait. Two days before my baby was released I got a call that my mom had gone to the ER with blood on her brain. We found out that she had an aneurysm in her brain. She suffered with brain spasms and pain that medication could not help. When I would talk to her on the phone she would be brave and let me know she was doing okay but other’s told me that was not the case. Due to H1N1 it was not recommended for me to visit the hospital for fear of being exposed and bringing it home to my baby… not to mention I could not be away from my baby for long. At one point her lungs were filling with fluid and my sisters worried that they needed to call and have me come to the hospital. She hallucinated and even had to be tied down so she would not remove her oxygen. After three weeks in the neurological ICU in SLC (we live in Ogden) she came home. My mom was one of the first to see Jack but the last to hold him. She was very weak and every little noise hurt her head but she held my baby finally! Less than 24 hours latter she returned to the hospital and was life flighted back to SLC after having a stoke. Once again she was in the neurological ICU and there for Thanksgiving. She finally returned home after another week in the hospital. My mom has worked hard and since her release from the hospital and has had to deal with her son-in-law loosing his job (he finally got a new one!!) a father-in-law hospitalized, and a daughter with a likely diagnosis of MS and various other family dramas. We have been blessed that she is alive and has not had any sever damage, she can drive and is back to work part time. She has struggled with her health but has felt so bad that she could not help with my baby when I needed her. I love my mom and know she would have done anything possible to be with me at that time. She has since made a bumper for Jack’s crib (lots of work) and baby sat and enjoyed lots of cuddles with him. Even when she needs help and needs to be taken care of… she takes care of us. She never gives up, even her doctor has said that all that she has been through is not fair, she keeps going. I would love to share how much I love her!Annie Broadbent

She is the most gentle and sweet person. She never seems to worry about herself always putting EVERYONE else first. She treats everyone fair and does not judge them. Now that I am an adult and a mother myself I strive everyday to be like her. I figure if I am half the woman and mother she was I am doing well. She is also one of the ONLY people I trust enough to watch my precious child if I need a sitter, and believe me that is a SMALL list I can count it on less than 1 hand. She would never hurt ANYONE, (ecept maybe a fly 😉 they get annoying so she has the sticky traps to catch them.) other than that she really is AMAZING!

My mom deserves everything this world has to offer, she has been through alot the last couple of years, last week she under went her second knee surgery on the same knee because the replacement left fragments broken off in her knee and caused her some serious pain, my dad had suffered a severe stroke and she would come from work to find him passed out on the floor so she had to sadly put him in a nursing home just before christmas last year so he can be cared for 24/7 while she tries to support my dad being in a home and keeping her house up on payments. My mom deserves a darling cookie bouquet for SO many reasons, but what amazes me most is that us kids have ALWAYS been her #1 priority! My dad has been laid off from jobs twice since the 80's and THANK GOODNESS, not only was my mom able to return to the amazing job she had while she was in college, but she has been WILLING to work full-time ever since then, despite the fact that my dad has had a steady job for most of the past 20 years. For as long as I can remember, she's always started work at about 4:00 a.m. so that she could not only be home by the same time that me & my siblings got out of school, but so that she could drive us to our various activities and have dinner made for us at a decent hour. Like everyone else, I think my mom is the best. She was always there for me and my brothers. She worked for 30 years as a teacher. She had to sell her house this past January. This is the house that she and my dad bought 21 years ago when they retired. It was very difficult for her to move into a retirement home. My mother is amazing. On June 20th she will be 90 years old. She still cooks, takes care of her house and my father. She is mentally very sharp. For the last 2 1/2 months she has helped be a caregiver for my husband since his brain tumor surgery (most maliginant and most agressive) so I could go back to work. Than when she was just about done raising her kids she got a pione call from that state she had to pick up her grandaughter she had gotten taken away from her mom.
