Smith's: Purex Catalina DEAD!

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

UPDATE:  It looks like you may still be able to get your catalina!  They said they stopped printing the coupon because it conflicted with the Buy 1 Get 1 Free Coupon.  Whether it is because of the scenario below, or the coupon, you can call Catalina and get one mailed to you, if you didn’t get one at checkout.  1-888-8Coupon.  Then choose option 3.  (Thanks SavvyShopperDeals)

So, using coupons is a great way to save money and sometimes even get items for free.  However, it only takes one person mis-using the system to ruin it for everyone else.

A Cincinnatti Couple bought over 800 bottles of Purex Laundry Detergent for free with coupons and catalinas!  Seriously??  800 Bottles? What in the world are you going to do with 800 bottles of Laundry Detergent?!!

Because of them taking advantage of the system, catalinas for Purex are no longer working…even though, the promotion is supposed to run until March.  The original problem happened at a Fred Meyer store, but it looks like Purex is pretty unhappy about it and took the catalinas down elsewhere too!  One of my readers, Kim, told me that her Smiths is no longer printing them out either.

So, I know that none of you would ever dream of doing anything like this.  But even on a smaller scale, try to think of others when you shop.  If there is an awesome deal, please don’t clear out the shelves so no one else can get the deal too. It is the one part of using coupons that can get really frustrating.

(Thanks The Coupon Project)

  9. Melissa-They are the coupons that print out after you check out. You know the ones that the cashier hands you with your reciept after paying. To use on your next purchase. Hope that helps, let me know if not.Rachel

  10. I'm such a nerd, but I like to go through the self check out at Smiths since there are Catalinas there and most people just ignore them. I pick the one with the most coupons hanging out and sometimes grab some of the others. Is that bad? 🙂

  11. I don't think that's bad. I think it is helping out, so that a store clerk doesn't have to waste time grabbing them and throwing them away. If you were pushing people out of the way to get them, that would be bad, but taking whats left is fine, in my book anyways.

  12. I went to Smiths today and used one of the B1G1 Purex coupons even though I wasn't going to get the Catalina, and I was surprised that I was handed a $4.00 Catalina coupon. I guess I may have to go back on Monday and use try it again with my other coupons.
