Cancer Affects Us All!

Hopefully, the title didn’t scare you guys.  No, I do not have cancer.  But, I’m pretty sure we all have people in our lives we know or are close to that has had Cancer or has been lucky enough to beat it.  Because of that, Cancer really does affect so many of us and our families.

With that said, I wanted to encourage all of you guys to participate in local Cancer Fundraisers.  During the fall, there are a lot of Cancer Walks/Runs and other ways to donate your time or money.  And, with how many people are affected by Cancer, we really need to help find some type of cure.  You just never know who will get it, if it will be you, or someone you love.

My Grandmother had Breast Cancer but thankfully caught it early. However, my sister Alexi’s Father-in-Law just found out he has Brain Cancer- the most common and agressive form of Brain Cancer.  Mind you, this man has participated in countless athletic and running events including 24 Marathons, 50+ Half Marathons, and over 25 Triathlons including 3 Half-Ironmans and 3 Ironmans! So it really does show you that cancer can happen to anyone.

I will be running… well, probably more like walking… a 5 K that they have set up in his behalf.  However, ALL of the proceeds with go to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in hopes that it can help cancer research. If any of you who live in Utah would like to come, I would love to meet you and have you run/walk with me on November 3rd!  This event will help out everyone who will ever have cancer and show our support for those who need it.

  2. Sorry to hear about the cancer in your family. I was diagnosed with grade 3 brain cancer in January. It really can strike anyone. I’m 30 yrs old, have 4 little kids and try to run as often as I can. After my surgery, radiation and chemotherapy I’ve tried to slowly get back into running. I will definitely check out some of the races. I know my friends held a 5K fundraiser for me back in April that helped a lot. Chemo drugs are expensive, mine are $3200 a month. Good luck with your race. Lisa

Thank you for showing your love and support for our family. Cancer sucks, but I am glad that my Dad lives by such a state-of-the-art facility…the Hunstman Cancer Institute. 8. Another great walk/5k run in Utah is for the America Heart Association on 22 September 2012. They are doing it for Heart and Stroke awareness. My son had a stroke at birth and is a survivor. Our team is walking specifically to raise awareness of infant/prenatal stroke. Please feel free to come join our team (link below) or donate to help out. Thanks!
