Today’s Question is: How many copies of the Sunday Newspaper do you get?
I get this question all of the time. When you are first starting out with couponing, it is hard to see why you would want to pay for a Sunday Newspaper Subscription to get coupons- in order to save money. I personally get 5 copies of my Sunday Paper. Our family is a small family of 3 and it has worked great for us to build a really great food storage that we can live off of for 6-8 months! Normally, I would recommend 1 copy per person in your family. But, I really wanted to get our food storage built quickly and having the 5 copies helped me do it in 3 months. Now I save anywhere from $500-$800 each month on my groceries and building my food storage!
So what about all of you?? How many copies of the Sunday Newspaper do you get for the coupons??? Comment and share with everyone else so they can get a feel for how many copies can help them get their couponing going strong and saving for their family!

I was new to couponing about 8 months ago and decided to get two copies of the Sunday newspaper each week for my family of 6. Since then, I have starte couponing a lot more and have found a few different ways to get additional papers. One way was to ask my Mother-in-Law if she would save any coupons that she doesn’t clip. Even though she lives an hour and a half away, we see her often enough to make it worthwhile. At my church we have set up a system where ladies who don’t use coupons put their weekly coupon inserts in a box and those of us who do use coupons can take them as needed. Finally, our newspaper in Cache Valley has extra papers for sale. All you have to do is go into the office and they have them organized into days. Each Sunday paper costs $1.25, but sometimes I realize several weeks later that I should have had an extra couple copies of the paper, and it’s worth going in and paying for the paper so I can get the extra inserts. I think eventually I will just order another couple newspapers to be delivered, but it has been good for me to figure out how to use the coupons the best before I had so many delivered. My question is how do people get extra copies of Red Plum, since they only come on Tuesdays in the mail. Any ideas?

I also live in Utah and get the RedPlum insert in the mail. I have 4 or 5 of my non-couponing neighbors save me their inserts each week and I go gather them up. They are great to do that for me and occasionally when I can get a great deal on something fun or yummy I will get enough to give each of them one for a thank you! Oh ya, I have a family of 5 and we get 4 Sunday papers. So far so good!

I take 7 Sunday papers. We have 6 kids, 3 married and 3 at home. I still shop like I have everyone at home. I have become the “store” where my married kids shop when they need things. The Red Plum insert comes in my Sunday paper.

I live in Utah and I get 10 papers for my family of 6. I purchase them all, but I like your ideas of asking neighbors to save them for you. I’ll have to try it!! I also do couponing for my in-laws and they get 5 papers, so I’m a clipping fool!!!

I purchase 3 of the double papers(SLC Trib and Deseret News) so six total and by buying the double for $3.00 a set i save a total of $3.00 for the bundle of 6:)

I get 8 copies. I would have got more but that was the limit I could buy. It has really helped to build up food storage and personal hygiene products. I have been keeping a spreadsheet on how much I have really saved through couponing and I made my money back within 3 months and since then I have saved an additional almost $300.

I am still trying to get organized. I live in a small town so I have to commute to a larger town to use my coupons. so going to several stores is quite the burden. My CVS, Walgreens , Walmart and Target are spread out all over town. I feel like I use more gas than I save in coupons. I am not sure that I grasp the whole concept of register rewards either. So any advice at all from your readers is helpful. I am happy to say that I do save enough each week to cover the cost of my sunday paper, but at this time one paper is all I get.

For Tressa- I can imagine that it is very hard to go to all those stores and save money. For you it might be worth price matching ads at Walmart and using coupons there, so that you don’t have to go all over creation. Another idea – something I did with some friends when we lived further from town would be to find some other friends or family that will coupon as well, and maybe you split up lists so you all go to different stores and then share the items, or take turns with weeks and babysitting. Wish you well with all of that, been there before.

Oh, I get 5 copies of the paper for a family of 6 and it seems to be plenty for the most part. I have enough of a lot of things for our family, storage and to give away to others. I just wish I got the Red Plum in my newspaper as well.

I only get 1 copy of the sunday paper. I have only been couponing for a few months now and am still having a hard time grasping this concept. I am so afraid when i get to the register that I have spent way more than I have in my checking account. I buy for 6 people….4 adults and 2 kids….and don’t have alot of storage space. Like I said I am still trying to get the hang of this and am about ready to throw my hands in the air and say I give up just like I do every time I try to loose weight ðŸ™

I’d suggest gathering up all your sale papers and going through them. Making a list of things that are on sale you need from each store and subtracting the coupon(s) you have from the price and then comparing can be a major help. It can be a ton of work, but its worth it in the end. You can also shop at stores that will price match and ad so you don’t have to stop at a bunch of stores. And sometimes you just have to sit on coupons to get the best deal available.
I’m limited on storage space too, so I tend to only stock up on things that will fit in small areas or you can put pretty much anywhere. One great thing is cereal. You can stack them in a pile in the corner of a closet shelf. I also haven’t bought razor blades since I’ve started couponing. We get a bag on our door every week with coupons and sale ads and it almost always has Shick or Bic disposable razor coupons. They’re usually $3 off one package and stores have the smaller packs on sale for 3.99 a lot in my area. Other things are toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant. You can put these things in a tub and just shove them under a bed.

I only get one Sunday paper (The Denver Post) delivered but if there is a good coupon that I KNOW my family needs many of Hubby goes to the store and gets a few more because he sees it as a very worthwhile investment! Also, my city (Aurora, CO) has a free paper that comes out on Thursdays that usually has the same coupon inserts as the regular paper so we are always sure to pick up a couple of copies. Unfortunately we only get store ads in the mail and never any coupon inserts 🙠I try to keep the number of copies in multiples of 4 (usually only 4 since I have that many in my family) because most grocery stores in my area only accept 4 like coupons in a transaction and that way I don’t have to think about it as much 😀
