Walmart has a NEW Coupon Policy!

Ok, so here is some breaking news!  Walmart now has a brand new Coupon policy.  So make sure you print it out and keep it with you every time you shop there.

Some of the new highlights include:

  • Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.
  • Buy 1, Get 1 Free printable coupons are acceptable.
  • They will also accept Catalinas that you may get from another store, as long as it says Manufacturer on the top of it

These are all great for us!  Especially the fact that they will give you full face value for the coupon- even if your coupon is more than the item costs.  That means you can get money back or put it towards other items in your cart!  YAY!

**We may need some further clarification on this, but it seems like since Walgreens Register Rewards are Catalinas and say manufacturer on the top, we can use them at Walmart now!

(Thanks Consumer Queen)

  1. I was at Walmart today and they had signs all over the place saying to bring in other stores ads, and they would match the prices.

    • They’ve done that forever. I worked at Walmart for a while and they said if we questioned the price we were being told to match, and the customer did not have an ad you had to CALL THE STORE and verify the price. If they had an ad, there were no questions asked.

  3. If you get any more clarification will you post it? That is so awesome about the catalinas!!!!! I shop much more now at Walgreens because of Walmarts loving feeling towards coupons so this is great for all the other stuff I have to buy.

  4. I am glad to see this as a CSM from my walmart did not want to accept a coupon that was more than the cost of the item and I was buying other things.

  5. Their policy that you linked to specifically states no buy one get one free coupons!

    • It says no Buy 1 Get 1 Free Competitor’s coupons. They will still take regular Manufacturer BOGO coupons.

  6. I am assuming that means they will take my Kroger coupons I get when I check out? How about the kroger coupons I get in the mail? I am new to all this coupon lingo 😉

  7. I was just looking at the new policy and it says: The following are guidelines and limitations:

•Only one coupon per item is permitted.

So does that mean we can no longer use a Target coupon and a mfg coupon at Wal Mart? If so that is LAME! I’m bummed. ðŸ™

    • They never allowed that. Or at least, were not supposed to.

  8. I have tried to use a Targt coupon at the two walmarts near me and have never been able to. They do not take competitor store coupons for $ or cents off. They will take a competitor coupon that specifies the items price.

  9. They do still allow you to use a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon for the most part. The stores I shop at consider that price matching. I guess more important than the coupon policy is the price matching policy…I wonder if they’ve changed that, too. I actually don’t see anything new in this new coupon policy from what Wal-Marts around here have always done.

  10. Here is a suggestion for everyone:

Since Walmart has updated the coupon policy, I encourage everyone to Email, Fax and even call Walmart CEO on complimenting the change on policy. Also, please share your horrible experience with Michael Duke. Ask him for his advice on making your future shopping experience smooth as possible avoiding past experience of you and others. Lastly, share this thread, other thread and blogs.

  11. I went to Walmart and tried to use a catalina from Smith’s and they wouldn’t take it. I even had a copy of the new coupon policy. They brought over three CSM’s and they said they don’t take those. I was so bugged. I got the name of the manager and then came home and e-mailed Walmart. SO IRRITATED!

  13. Tried to use my register rewards from Walgreens today at Wal-Mart and they didn’t work. The cashier argued with me that they didn’t take them, (forget the coupon policy in the car)…so I didn’t argue with her too much. Will just use them at Walgreens!

  14. I went to the Wal-Mart in Richfield Ut this morning. Got up to the cashier, a coupon came up as “valid coupon amount?”, she printed a tape and said, “I can’t take this coupon. The item is .97 and the coupon is for $1.00. ” I brought out my copy of the new coupon policy. She had 2 CMS’s come over and one actually said, “are we honoring this?” The other said, “we get $1.00 back for the coupon.” The cashier then proceeded to scan all coupons with overage and hit yes for all the “valid coupon” messages. Make sure you have copies of the new coupon policy in Richfield, the downloaded one with the date on it is the one I showed! Makes me happy……….FINALLY!
