I’ve got an interesting question for all of you…..

What IF you became a Millionaire??  Would you STILL use coupons to save money and hunt for deals online??

I’m interested to hear what everyone says.  If financial times weren’t so rough, would we still stick to our guns and save as much money as we could? Or, would using coupons and deals be an after-thought?

  2. I would say yes becasue i would still want to help others to finacial freedeom even if mines comes in one large lump sum. Money might can buy some immediate happiness but I will still want my thrill from seeing the cashier shocked at my totals. I want to even gift people with coupons or cash like the Hidden Millionaire show. Besides, its not like my check will be overnighted to me. I still have to bargain until it hits my account.

  4. I wouldn’t be using coupons but I would still look for the best deals online. If tremendous amounts of time, work, and risk went into becoming a millionarie, I would expect to spend it wisely. I do give my Utah culture credit for that mentality.

  5. I would still do it. It’s about the “hunt” for me, that is what makes it fun. However, I would be able to help more people with the results.

  6. Yes because even if you were a millionaire it’s still smart to be wise with your money! Or you might run out quickly!

  11. I would like to think that I would, but I can’t be sure. It’s fun finding great deals, but it does take up a lot of time. So if I didn’t HAVE to, I don’t know if I would.

  12. I would most def continue being frugal, looking for deals and clipping the coupons. Why would I ever want to start paying for things I now get for free/ dirt cheap even when I had a bunch of money. Sure somethings I might be a little more laxed about but for the most part Id stay the same. Love coupons/deals!!!! Thanks for all you do for us Melea 🙂

  17. ABSOLUTELY!!!! I love the rush and joy of being able to say “I only spent … and saved…!” Why pay full price when you can get it for much less! I’d spend my extra money on other non-coupon items like my house and cars and activites for my kids 🙂

  18. I would actually still use them because it has turned into a lot of fun for me. The only difference would be that I would end up buying more each trip and donating more than I am able to right now.

  19. I love helping those in need with my stock of free or cheap finds-
it makes me so happy and helping others is something that God calls us to do.
I would love to be able to buy more when I find great deals, and a MIlLION $
    would certainly allow for that!

In addition I would have the money to pay a babysitter while I do my shopping!!!

  21. I would still save money where ever I can … a million dollars seems like a lot but it really isn’t if you factor in the cost of living and raising a family

  22. Deals and being frugal? Yes. Coupons? Probably not.

    Reply
  23. I would not. I would probably have groceries delivered and spend the time with my family going on trips etc. I think the extra money spent on groceries would be worth more family time. I f I could afford it I woudl do it now.

  24. YES, I love to make a deal! It’s a bit addicting.

  25. It would be nice to know I didn’t “have” to, but I hate paying full price for anything and I can’t see that changing overnight, even if I did have a million dollars. I’ve heard most millionaires are very frugal.

  26. I think I would still use coupons to help my food storage and for those donated items. If you can find a deal why not use it.

  27. I would still use coupons AND hunt for deals online. I am a bargain shopper, no matter what my budget. I have a hard time spending “full price”, even if I have the money to do it. I always want to get the best deal I can find.

  28. I think I would use them but without the hassle I do now…I’d do the easiest method of organizing WITHOUT clipping and just follow your website and a couple others because you already tell us where the coupons are and when the sales are so I don’t have to hunt. BUT with a million, I’m sure i’d splurge on non coupon sale items more often. But I do LOVE to see how much I can save and I sure prefer getting free toiletries than having to pay for them. Also, I would only do it on the best of the best sales because it does take a bunch of time… time I would rather give to my kids and husband, and my own sanity, lol.

Curious, if you aren’t already a millionaire Melea, when you become one, what will you do? 🙂

    • haha… I don’t think I will ever be a millionaire! But if I did become one, I for sure would still coupon and use deals! I love doing it, it’s fun, I can help others with donating and I could put any millionaire money towards fun things like vacations. 🙂

  30. Are you guys for real? No way would I waste my time clipping coupons! I’d actually have time to play with my kids, volunteer, clean my house, and do all those fun projects I’ve wanted to! I’d of course still be frugal and get good deals, but this coupon thing takes WAY too much time, it would be the first thing to go.

  33. NO WAY! I would hire someone to shop for me. If she/he used coupons, I would give them the savings. Spread the wealth!

However, I’m not sure a million would do it. I think it would have to be several million.

  34. Yes I would still use coupons, but I wouldn’t be as strict about it. A million dollars is a lot but it won’t last forever, especially if you aren’t careful.

  35. i know that i would still hunt for deals and use coupons. i love scoring a good deal, never want to pay full price for anything, and am patient until i find what i need at the right price. i even love finding things i do not need (for free or super cheap) and then finding people that need them or giving them as gifts. i LOVE finding the deal! even when i have money to spend (like a project budget or have saved up for something) i still shop until i find a bargain and LOVE coming in under budget while getting more than anyone ever expected the money to provide. so i know that even if i come into a huge amount of money, that i would still stand by my tried-and-true thrify approach to purchasing 🙂

  38. Yes. I would try to be frugal after helping out my 8 children. They are all so needy and I am constantly trying to help them. They are either unemployed and can’t find jobs or are retired on disability. So there you go. I would do what needed to be done and then if I had anythinnng left I would save.

  39. If I became a millionaire I would still use coupons and try to save as much as possible. You have to remember that in order to stay rich you either have to invest your money or keep making money, so to use coupons and save whatever you can will help to stay a millionaire. I would definitely pay off all my debt and quit my job to stay home with my kids, but I would be very careful how I spent my money. A lot of people with money you would never know had money because of how they act and dress.

  44. We are technically millionaires on paper – due to some awesome stock options. I still coupon and live frugally because we’ve worked so hard for what we have. We’ll splurge on family vacations though because the memories are definitely worth it.

    Reply
  45. Heck no! I will hire a house keeper, a lawn mower, and pursue more expensive hobbies like travel and photography. I would do those things as frugally as possible though because I would still want to be responsible with my money.

  48. I definitely still would! Why spend money that you don’t have to? You can always use the extra money to help those less fortunae. True millionaires are actually tight-wads. They don’t drive the nicest cars or live in the biggest houses. They still live pretty modestly.

  49. Absolutely! I’ve always used coupons. Why would I start to waste money just because I have money. Then I would just be like those people who buy whatever and whenever they want to just because they can. I can’t imagine not having concern for those around me and I could use my savings to help others.

  53. Millionaire, then yes I would still coupon… Mulit-Millionaire then nope 🙂

  54. I would definitely still coupon! In fact, my in-laws are very wealthy and they saw how much money I was saving and were so intrigued. My father-in-law is super frugal. He doesn’t drive a fancy car or dress overly fashionable. Yes, he has lots of “toys”…but he has worked hard to get it. He asked me to start couponing for their family, because why pay a ton of money for food!!?? He wants to save money on necesseties, just like we all do! So I have been couponing for them as well as our family. It makes me feel good, because I feel like I’m re-paying them for all of the things they have done for our family. And they love it. Ya, they don’t necessarily need to get free or cheap things, but they truly appreciate saving money.

I also think it teaches your kids to be frugal. My kids always make sure we have some sort of coupon for things we buy. Coming from a wealthy family, my husband just assumed he’d be wealthy too…but the way we get rich is by hard work! It was hard for us, as a young couple to be poor. We wanted instant wealth! After those struggles we faced, I never want my kids to think that money should come easy. I want them to save and work hard for the things they have.

  55. I definitely would still coupon and look for deals cause that sort of thing is a mindset and, for me, isn’t governed by the amount of money we have. I know the opposite is true for others though, cause one guy that my husband works with (that gets the same paycheck as we do) said that since he’s had a full time job he’s forgotten what it’s like to budget money. That really surprised me and my husband cause budgeting and coupon-ing is one of those habitual things that make you feel really good. Obviously it can be taken to an extreme, but when you’re doing it simply and efficiently then I think it only adds to your fulfillment and happiness in your life. If we didn’t budget, even if we had a million dollars, I’d feel out of control with my spending and any conservative or frugal mentality would quickly dissipate.

  56. YES! I always tell my children this. Even if I was loaded with funds, I’d still use coupons. It’s a natural high to see how much I can get with the least amount of money. My coupon binder comes with me everywhere, my kids (teenagers) were embarrassed at first that their mom was carrying a coupon binder but when they saw the things I brought home for them to partake of, they no longer complained and they gladly help carry my binder in the store. They know the drill and it’s going to be that way forever.

  57. I would give up all the time spent couponing when it comes to groceries but I would still use coupons for eating out and store coupons since that doesn’t take nearly as much time and effort.

  58. OMG, I am so addicted and get such a thrill out of finding deals that I think I can never stop! I think that my perspective would change though. Instead of trying to save money for my family I would take everything I get with coupons and bless others with it… I guess it would become more of a hobby/ministry than a necessity.

  59. Being a millionaire just isn’t what it used to be I don’t think! I’d definitely still be using coupons. The further you can make your money stretch in this day and age the better.

  60. I would but I would be willing to buy things spur of the moment too if my kids wanted it or if it sounded good without having a coupon for it. I think coupon shopping is a fun hobby and I don’t think I would want to give it up.

  66. Absolutely! Why waste money you don’t have to just because you’re too rich to think you need to worry about it. Money is one of those things that can come and go very quickly, so isn’t it all the better if you always spend it wisely 🙂

  67. I would still use coupons and try to get the best deals on things. I would prefer that my money be used to gain interest in a retirement fund and then we could retire early. I have been practicing being frugal all my life, I think it is something that is pretty ingrained in me by now. Money for us is not as tight as it used to be but I still get frustrated at having to buy things at not so good prices.

  68. I would still look for deals and use coupons… It drives me nuts to pay full price because you can almost find some deal for EVERYTHING…. If I had a million dollars I would would want to use it for purchases I did not have a deal for…. Besides I would have MORE time to do couponing If didn’t have to work as hard:)

  69. I might for awhile – after all, couponing is a habit. After that, I would probably get sidetracked onto other projects.

  73. Heck yes!! I enjoy challenging myself to the savings I accomplish each time I go do my shopping. I believe in the more you help others(I buy for my Sister”s family and my Mom that is caring for our brother)and we still have “eating out”days and able to get ourselves to have family time w/o the stress of not “having”enough. Thank-you for all your savings to us for us.

  74. I thing looking for deals is so much a habit that I’d still do it.

  75. You bet!!! I hate going shopping without my coupons! I will prolong getting groceries if I don’t have all my coupons clipped. It makes me really annoyed to pay full price for anything any more because I know how much I could be paying. I know that wouldn’t change if I had more money in any amount. My father-in-law loves to coupon and price match, and he is a millionaire, or close to it. He says he got that way by being careful with his money his whole life. He never pays full price for anything, even though he could if he wanted to.

    Reply
  76. Absolutely. I would do it so that I could be able to donate to charity.

  77. Heck Yeah! Many factors involved with using coupons even AFTER becoming MILLIONAIRES =)
1 – I get such a rush finding the BEST Deal & feel so proud of myself (even if it’s NOT for me).
2 – ABSOLUTELY would donate towards fundraisers, charities, natural disasters, animal shelters, etc. using coupons!
3 – Like many individuals stated above — it’s about being a SMART shopper! You can then stretch your millions across many areas. Heck, have your millions make more $$ while you use it wisely for the benefit of others & of course on you & your family for necessities & splurging a little (travel). It’s all about managing your time, $ & interests.
4 – I would even keep my full time job! Just because you have $$ doesn’t mean you should just drop everything & start living off of that. As a reader mentioned above – you might have millions now, but you NEVER know what tomorrow may bring! We’re in that situation right now with our economy – so many people jobless, homeless, ALONE =(.
5 – But for me — it’s definitely WORTH the feeling AFTERWARDs knowing that you got a FANTASTIC DEAL!
I’m now a true believer — NEVER PAY THE FULL RETAIL PRICE! & If it’s FREE, then it’s for ME!!! (Even if it’s not something I can use, I know I can donate it or someone can use it)
