Final Word on the Wal-Mart Competitor's Coupon Policy!

This week, Wal-Mart put that they accept competitor’s coupons on their ad.  This is the first mention of such a thing on a National level.  And it caused a bunch of confusion everywhere.  So I was talking with a Wal-Mart company spokesperson yesterday and this is the final outcome:

There have been some questions about Walmart’s coupon policy. To clarify, Walmart will continue to accept all valid manufacturer and print-at-home internet coupons with a scannable bar code. In addition, Walmart will also match the price listed on any valid competitor coupons that include a printed retail price for a specific item (e.g., $2 for a 24 oz. bottle of Clorox).

We apologize for any confusion.

For further details, please see our price match and coupon policies online:

We apologize if the information previously shared through Facebook was confusing. To provide an update, Walmart will continue to honor valid manufacturer and print-at-home internet coupons with a scannable bar code. In addition, Walmart will also match the price listed on any valid competitor coupons that include a printed retail price for a specific item (e.g., $2 for a 24 oz. bottle of Clorox).

After receiving the statement, I needed further clarification on if “Stacking” was part of their new policy since coupons usually have a dollar off amount.

Walmart would accept the manufacturer coupon (as always) but would not accept the store coupon unless it had a specific price on it ($1.99). We do not honor competitor’s dollar or cents off coupons.

Many of you have stated that your local Wal-mart store will let you combine a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon on one item. If your manager will let you do that, then I say more power to you!  For the rest of us however, it looks like the statement they made in this week’s advertisement was not clear enough and they do not allow stacking of coupons.

HOWEVER:  You can price match an item with the competitor’s ad and then use a Manufacturer’s coupon.  That is allowed in their policy.  So keep doing that!
