New Year’s Resolutions? Or Just Doing Better?

I have to be honest.  I’ve never been good at New Year’s Resolutions. That’s probably why I have never really tried to make them.. because I always lose sight of my goal and I don’t make much progress.

This year, instead of a New Year’s Resolution… which sounds really “heavy” to me.  I am going to focus on things that I can do better instead. And I hope you guys are ok with me sharing mine with you.

One of my biggest goals of 2012 is being able to balance being a good Mom and running the Freebies2Deals Blog.  Some days, I do really good at it.  And other days, I just fall short. I always feel a constant pressure to keep up and consistent with all of the deal posting… especially since there are so many of you and I don’t want to let you down.  And, at the same time, I don’t want to miss out on the fun things my daughter learns and does.

With that said, and really wanting to find a better balance, I will be looking for Freebies2Deals readers to “help” and possibly work for me in 2012. I wish I could say that I am superwoman and can do it all.. but I just can’t. I’ve tried for the past 2 years and always feel behind the 8 ball in my personal life and with my blog. The most important things to me are Family and God.  And I don’t want those things to end up being 4th or 5th on my list.  So, having some more help behind the scenes will really help me out!

If you, or anyone you know is amazing with finding awesome deals and using coupons, next week- the 1st week of January, I will be posting more about position(s) on Freebies2Deals.  Don’t worry!  I will still be posting and VERY present on Freebies2Deals.  I just don’t want to lose my mind!  Hope you can all understand where I am coming from! 🙂

So now that I have shared my big “doing better” goal of 2012, feel free to comment and leave yours below.  It doesn’t have to be a solid resolution, just something you would like to do better at in the coming year!

  2. I think you goal is one we all struggle with. I know I do. I have four kids under 9 and wow the daily life of laundry, food, dishes and homework seriously take all my time, but when I know how much money I could save just spending time couponing, it is hard to not do it. Wish you the best of luck and hope you find a better balance that works for you. I really do appreciate all you do, and I check your blog often to see what great deals I could get. Christmas went a lot smoother and cheaper due to your help. Thanks!

  3. We stopped doing resolutions last year and each made a list of fun things we wanted to do. Stuff like camping with the family, swimming, building a sandcastle, having a snowball fight, etc. It made the years so much fun! This year we’re doing the same thing, but we’re going to turn it into a Bingo game!

    • I totally love this idea! It is like a resolution to spend more time together, but so much better! Gives you so many things to look forward too 🙂

  5. You are amazing! I am constantly in awe at how much info is on your blog for saving. And because of the time it takes me to just look through it all, clip coupons, navigate through your posts…I can’t even begin to imagine how much time it takes you to provide all of this info for us. I would love to help you if I could…my kids are all in school for the day so timing is perfect for me…however, I am brand new to all of this myself. Your blog was the beginning of the savings for me this year. My New Years Resolution is to get us out of unneeded debt! Thanks for opening a window of opportunity for that to happen. Learning how to coupon and save is tricky, but I’m learning. Hopefully I can get better this year. Thanks for your website!! Don’t worry about making us happy…focus on your family and God first. When will that ever steer you wrong?

  6. I can’t believe that you put this post up today. I have been following your blog and using your tips for about a year, and have wondered several times about trying to do something along these lines for myself in my area of the country. I don’t know how interested you will be in working with someone so far away, but since it’s all mainly computer, I am guessing it could work. I was actually thinking earlier today about emailing you to get some advice or tips on how you got started and how it all turned so successful for you. I first heard about your blog in the article that appeared in First magazine and I’ve been hooked ever since. I am excited to see what info you post about openings next week. Until then–hope you and your family have a very happy New Year’s weekend. I definitely think you’re already on the right track with your thoughts about your family and priorities!

  7. One of my goals for this year is to start saving more of the money I save by using coupons. I save money shopping using coupons but it seems the money just goes somewhere else and I never really see it.

  8. I completely agree. The biggest struggle that I have with couponing is when to say enough is enough. I get so caught up in saving money that other responsibilities of mine end up taking a hit. I don’t know how you keep up with running this blog on top of everything else! My goal for next year is to spend less time hunting for deals and more time with my family, the way it used to be before. I need to set limits for myself and stick to it. There will always be another sale or freebie, but you only get to see your babies grow up once! I wish you the best of luck in the new year and thanks so much for all the time you have invested to save us money! I know it’s hard, but it’s greatly appreciated!

  9. Trust me, the more children you add to your family, the crazier it gets, so I think we all understand where you are coming from. I have 4 children under age 10 and work part time out of the home. Balance is a huge issue for me too. That is why I love your blog so much, because you take some of the work of saving money and do it for me! I love checking your blog and it’s always on my “to do” list everyday. I think it is awesome you are looking for others to help. Good luck and thanks for all you do!

  10. Your such an amazing person! I think you do a wonderful job with Freebies 2 Deals and I am sure you are a fantastic mother. It’s funny you posted this because for the past couple of weeks I have been thinking about New Years resolutions and I had decided its not a resolution but a choice I will be making at the begining of the year to make better choices in all aspects of my life, family, health, work, etc.

  11. To be honest I’ve wondered if you used hired bloggers. I am super surprised to learn that you don’t! Go for it! I’d be happy to help in the summer when school’s not in. – Janae

  12. A agree with Cassie. Family is the most IMPORTANT part of your life. As a grandmother of 12, mother of 5, I know that it’s pretty hard to fulfill that deep yearning to do something that you want to do in addition to being a wife and mom.
That being said, I’m grateful for your addition to my life.
Good luck to you and your choices for 2012.

  13. You are not alone in feeling like you need to find a balance!! I am a stay at home mom of 3 girls under 6 WITHOUT a blog and still have trouble finding a balance between enjoying my girls and getting all the to-do’s done around the house. I’m sure you will find some wonderful help and best of all get to start enjoying your daugher! Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year!

  14. I’ve always been amazed at how much work you put in to saving all of us so much money, and while I DEFINITELY appreciate it, I wondered how you did it! I’ve seen pics of your gorgeous family and know for sure that I’d get distracted by such a cute little girl, and it would be so hard to get anything done. Honestly, there’s no such thing as Superwoman, and if there was no one would like her! 😉 Anyway, I think it’s great that you’re going to get some help. Maybe now you can have another baby? LOL

  16. We own our own business and to be honest the bigger and more people we hire the more we seem to work. I often have wondered how these blogs balance time. It seems like the kids would be 2nd to the computer. Good luck with whatever job career you take.

  18. Very much understand and agree, I too had assumed that, at some point this year you had started hiring others…so this seems a natural step. Finding balance is the one thing that is the hardest to do, especially when you feel led by God to provide a service to others. My husband and I are both “PK”s and talk some about our childhood….and, as a teacher who is also in charge of certain programs at work totalling to over 50 hours a week, I know I struggle with it almost daily. Did I give each child enough attention, take care of the house?, (hope I did not miss an important deal)….etc. I do know one thing, neither my husband nor I regret the service our parents provided, and I certainly hope my children will understand and appreciate it as they grow as well….I follow faithfully and will be praying that God leads the right people to you. Happy New Year!
